Brake Fluid and Lubrication

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and even bicycles use hydraulic braking. Brake fluid is used to transfer the force applied into hydraulic pressure. In contrast, lubricants enable parts to move opposite each other in a perpendicular manner.

Why does your car have to have brake fluid?

A car has to have brake fluid to allow for the effective operation of the brakes to stop the car. When we apply pressure to the brake pedal, brake fluid, which is largely incompressible, will transfer that pressure to the pistons that operate the in the calipers or the pistons that operate the brake shoes. Further, the fluid must be of the correct type for the system in which it is used. The continued safe operation of the brakes may be compromised by the wrong fluid.

What is the proper order to bleed the brakes on a 2005 Chevrolet Impala?

In almost all cases you go to the farthest cylinder first. That would be right rear, left rear, right front and last the left front. Just a tip to prevent any problems with the master cyclinder. The person that pumps the brake should place their left foot on the floorboard underneath the brake pedal. They should pump the pedal and hold it. The person doing the bleeding should lightly crack the bleeder and let the fluid come out slowly, while watching for air. When No more air comes out then close the bleeder. The one pumping should NOT let the pedal go to the floor as it should rest on their left foot. Proceed till all air is bleed. This same procedure work for hydraulic clutches as well.

How could someone damage a brake line?

You need to BClear. But I'll try to answer anyway. A line could be damaged trying to repair somthing else, raising on a lift or trying to repair it or another one. Brake lines are funny, especially in the northeast where we have cold and ice and salt. Fuel and brake lines rot out. If this happens to you, don't screw around, replace them all before you go through multiple repairs and heartache. When they get weak from rot, simple movements cause them to fail. If you try to fix one, another begins to leak as they are generally run together. Pukenstein@aol.com

How could i fix a window leak in a 1994 Honda civic ex 2 door it leaks in the front drivers side floor it goes all the way back to the backseat what could this be caused by?

it could be the antenna that is fed down the a-pillar. I couldn't figure out why mine was leaking, i couldn't get it to leak when I put the hose anywhere on the windshield. It wasn't until I tried the roof, and the water was running over the base of the antenna that it started coming inside. Definitely not the window.

Perhaps the antenna wire needs to be looped inside the frame so water runs off in there, because it's running along the cable into the car and dripping on the drivers side floor. It was quite the ordeal to put that new antenna in in the first place, and after spending some time up side down trying to fix the water issue I gave up and caulked the antenna to the roof.

Fluid is much easier to contain and refill.

No special equipment is necessary to fill a brake fluid reservoir.

Which engine has more torque?

Why doesn't get brake fluid to the calipers?

This will depend on the car.

This is about a basic brake system, No ABS:

  • Master cylinder needs to be full, disconnect the master cylinder out let lines and make sure it is pumping fluid.
  • The proportioning valve can be the problem so disconnect the out let lines and check there for fluid pumping through.
  • The calipers and bleeder valves can be the problem. Remove the bleeder valves completely and see if the bleeders are plugged.
  • The hardest to check are the flexible lines, you need to disconnect the wheel end first. If you have no fluid pumping through then the lines from the master need to be disconnected and checked.
