Why would a 1997 Cadillac Catera have a good water level and pressure and has a new thermostat but still overheats?

If it's not leaking any visible coolant anywhere and you don't detect coolant getting into the enine oil (check for white smoke coming out of the tailpipe) it is not likely a bad head gasket and may just be a faulty reading on the temperature gauge. There is a service bulletin regarding the temperature guage, that it reads hot or near hot when the engine is not actually overheating. The water pumps are also under recall, so have that checked as well. I know mine just shows a high reading on the temp guage but it's not leaking coolant and everything else checks out fine.

Answer Make sure your fan is working properlyhead gasket AnswerOr the water pump. I just brought mine to the dealership for an unrelated issue and they said the water pumps are under recall. Check it out at your local dealer.

Where is the secondary air injection pump on a 2001 Cadillac Catera?

It is on top behind the driver side of the radiator in between that and the engine... Real easy to find if you get in there and look

The 'air bag' light is on in your 2000 Impala how do you turn it off?

The only way to turn it off is to correct the problem turning it on, once corrected it will turn off by itself. It being on shows that there is a current problem and that no air bags will deploy in the event of an accident until the light is off There is a "clockspring" in the steering column that is probably broken. When the clockspring breaks, the airbag light comes on. The "clockspring" takes the place of the old slip rings and spring loaded contacts used in older cars to transfer circuits from the steering wheel to the stationary column making the airbag, horn and speed control operational. To replace involves removing the airbag. Take it to the dealer. There was a recall on many 2000 Impala's concerning the air bag system. The light on our Impala would turn on & off intermittently before we took it in. The dealer will be able to do a VIN search to see if your vehicle has had the service performed or not.

What could cause a 1998 Cadillac Catera to take off very slowly when you floor it?

I have 98 catera....and this was cause believe it or not by a blown fuse. If I remember correctly this was the automatic transmission control model fuse....I think it was rated at 20 under the driver side steering wheel...fuse relay....

Why does your 1998 Cadillac Catera only have heat on the passenger side?

Sounds like the actuator on the drivers side is not operating properley. To check it out, remove the panel under the steering wheel, reach up to the actuator arm and try to move it to its bottom position, if heat comes out you solved the problem.

What could cause a 1997 Cadillac Catera to turn over but not start?

Timing belt has slipped or broken. This happened to my Cat just last week after having put a replacement engine in the month before. I am also being told that the engine is "short throw" and could mean that since the timing belt was thrown, the valves may be bent which means the heads need to be pulled. One repair shop has informed me that in order to test if a valve has bent, they will put compressed air to each cylinder to see if they get pressure loss. If they do the valves are not sealing and are bent. Replacing the timing belt does not guarantee that the engine will run! Just another couple feet dug into this money pit!

How do you disengage the alarm on a 1999 cadillac cetera?

What is the s button on the on a 1997 Cadillac Catera?

I would guess that is for the "sport" mode. That is correct. If pushed it will hold what ever gear you are in to hold until you shift to another higher gear. It won't allow the transmission to shift.

How do you remove the inside drivers side door panel on a 1998 Cadillac Catera you can't get it past the lock?

You have to remove the lock plunger. The red plastic inset in the plunger actually locks the plunger onto the "threaded" shaft. Pry out this center piece and the lock plunger will come off the top...and the rest of the door panel can be removed.

Your 1990 Ford F150 will crank but not start it is not the fuel pump what could it be it seems electrical any ideas?

Well you need to make sure your getting gas to the engine. If you can, have the fuel pressure checked closer to the engine, like the fuel rail. Then make sure you have a spark at the plugs. (safely) If you've got gas and spark, the only thing you're missing would be air. Check the vacuum hoses, air filter, and the throttle body. Best of luck. Most likely it's an Ignition issue. The first thing I would look at would be the Ignition Control Module "little gray rectangle box attached to the distributor that has a small wire harness plugged into it".

Where is the fuse box for the brake lights located on a Cadillac Catera?

It has been my personal experience with my own 1997 Cadillac Catera that the "fuse box" for the brake lights is actually the "fuse panel" located beneath an easily removable panel under the steering wheel. Please note: if your brake lights/tail lights are not working and it doesn't appear to be a fuse, there is a switch that might need to be replaced that is located under the fuse panel also and a mechanic could take 5 minutes to look and let you know if this is the case. I paid approximately $40 one year ago for the part and $70 total installed. If you want to do it yourself, it's not hard, I just didn't want to climb under the steering wheel. Also, another tell tale sign that it's the switch (can't remember proper name) going out is that sometimes you have brake/taillights and sometimes not. Good Luck!

How do you change the time from military to standard time on a 1998 Catera?

How do you reprogram the key lock?

Inside every key there is a small chip and every one of these chips has a different code that matches your car's security system, that only way to change the codes is to take it to the dealer and have them re-program the new key. It's a hassle and a little on the expensive side but that's one more evil way for them to get money out of us!

Turn key to 1st click radio works start car radio goes off and stays off?

This may involve a problem with fuze #10, a 10 amp fuze, which services some sort of controller along with a auxiliary heater water pump. Normally, if this fuze doesn't work, when you drive the car the radio won't work, the inside courtesy lights won't work, and the ability to "flick" your high beam won't work. Various sources indicate that often the auxiliary heater water pump is defective which causes the fuze to blow. If the fuze is good, then there is something else happing.
