Northstar engines are very difficult to work on. Recommend taking to a trained professional.

If you are adventurous, remove the plating on top the engine (with the Cadillac emblem; should be 2-4 bolts). If the spark plugs are not visible, then you may have to remove the secondary plate (2-4 bolts as well). On later model Northstar engines (after model year 2000) the distributorless ignition system was changed to a-on-plug design; each head has its own ignition module.

Once again, if you are not entirely comfortable removing obstructions until you reach the spark plugs, take your vehicle to a prefessional.

It's not a very arduous task. I just did one myself.

Take off the plastic cover by removing the 4 plastic bolts.

If possible, take a picture with a camera or cell phone for future re-assembly.

Remove the metal cross-brace...4 (13mm) bolts and set aside. (less than five minutes).

Unplug the wires from the spark-plugs.

Unplug the four connectors from the coil assembly on the rear valve cover.

Using a 10mm socket with 3 inch extension, remove the four bolts holding the coil assembly. 2 in the front are easy and 2 in the back just a little more tedious. (good time to look at the assembly).

get a flat head screw driver.pull out the ash tray flip the black flap down you will see a siver tad behind the black flap push down on the siver tab and pull the tray out at the same time

If the car is equipped with that option there will be a button in glove box. If no button, then just push inwards on the edge of the fuel door and the rear edge will pop out.

If glove box button is present and not working, there will be an emergency release inside the trunk on the back side of the fuel door. Usually a cable or a lever.

Yes. you MIGHT need to lift it a couple inches, but I've seen many DeVilles on 24's. You can google it or look on Craigslist, or even CarDomain has some images.

First, check the coolant in the radiator. Second, crank the engine and turn on the AC. the electric fan(s) should come on. If they don't you have an electrical problem, possibly a fuse, relay or a bad electric fan. If they do, you've probably have a faulty thermostat in the engine. If the car is consistantly low in coolant without an external leak or it steams, you may have a bad cylinder head or gasket.

To the right of gauges there is three buttons on/off, info reset, and up/down. you must have your key turned only on accessories and Hold down the up button and the on/off button foe 4 seconds. Then from there you can choose clear codes then puch on/off, then you choose clear all codes and push on/off. after you are finished push info reset button twice and after all lights go off on dash turn key off and your finished.

The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve is located on the right of the valve cover near the front of the engine. There is a hose from the valve to breather or air cleaner. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is under the air cleaner close to the fuel rail. These both have a difficultly level of zero, but may take you a little while longer if you haven't worked on cars much. :o)

The fuel filter on all 4.6 deville is located on the drivers side bottom UNDER the car right in front of the rear wheel right under the rear passanger door. First remove the positive battery cable next remove the cover it' that big silver plastic cover that says Cadillac it has like 6 black plastic acorn shaped nuts. next in front of you on the drivers side you are going to see a black steel pipe this is the fuel rail conected to the fuel rail is a valve like the kind on your tires to inflate them you have to relieve the built up gasoline that is in the line because if you don't when you try to remove your filter the preasure in the line is going to spray you with gas all over your face it happens remember its a fuel injected car every time you turn the key the pump builds preassure in the line use a tire gauge or small screw driver also put a rag under the valve this will keep gas from going all over the place after there is no preassure you are ready to start. ok now The fuel filter has a soldered nut this wont move so all you have to do is put a wrench on it and the fuel line has another nut this one does turn so put a wrench on this one and holding on to the wrench that is soldered to the body of the fuel filter turn the one connected to the fuel line COUNTER CLOCKWISE the nut connected to the fuel line sometimes gets rusted so WD-40 prior to starting the removal or some other type of rust loosener might help. the other line just has a clip. press the clip and twist and pull the filter off. To get a better idea look at your new filter and it will all seem clear

Follow the fuel line from the tank to the engine and you will find the filter. You need special tools available cheaply from the parts store.

two wrenches turn fitting slightly till gas starts to drip let set till pressure is off remove and replace in 10 mins

You can take the torque mount loose in front of the engine and by putting it in park rock the car to make the engine tilt foreward and push the park brake to hold it . This gives you some more room.

THEY make a tool (clamp) that attaches 2 the front Torque shock that pulls the engine forward.U bolt it on then tighten it until U have enough room.OR-- u bolt it 2 the engine & front upper cross mount.

However the tool is not necessary. If you remover the horizontal crossbar inside the engine right in front of the windshield you can reach behind the engine and change the plugs without dismounting the engine. I recommend putting a piece of carpet or a pad over the top of the engine to protect it while you change the plugs.

The heater core is contained within the heater/air assembly. The assembly is divided by the firewall. Now if only the heater core is being removed there is no need to evacuate the refrigerant from from the air conditioning system or remove the blower motor/evaporator housing.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Drain the cooling system.

Disconnet the heater hoses at the firewall.

Remove the glove box and the sound insulator panel below the right side of the dash. ( To remove he glove box there should be two screws underneath , you simply unscrew them and detach the glove box from the instrument panel), and of course instsallation is reverse .

Disconnect the the rod from the programmer to the blend air door by squeezing the plastic connector and pulling it out of the arm.

Disconnect the vaccuum and electrical connectors from the programmer just to the right of the heater core housing

Remove the two heater core cover mounting screws and pull the heater core cover (with programmer still attached) away from the heater housing

Remove the two core mounting screws and carefully lower the heater/air condition assembly from under the dash.

Caution : Have some old rags handy to protect the carpet from any spills of coolant .

Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Make sure to transfer any weather stripping/sealing material from the old core or cover to the new one.

first, remove the door handle on the top. Two screws, phillips, on both ends, under the plastic covers. Then remove the plastic covering the door lock. second, remove the window switch panel by lifting it using a flat edge, and disconnecy cables. third, lift the door panel from the bottom, up. The door panel should come off.

On my 1999 De Ville it is in the trunk on the left hand side. Pull back the covering on the back wall.

# Unscrew the radiator header tank filler cap. # Loosen the bleed valve on the pipes leading through to the passenger compartment by rotating half turn (can be loosened by hand). This is located back left of Righ Hand Drive model engine compartment. # At the bottom right of the radiator is another valve. Reach down with a pair of pliers and twist anti-clockwise 1 turn. The full contents of the radiator system will drain away (except residual fluid in the internal heater matrix).

you use a mirror and a flash light

I have a 97 deville delegance. The front dash has a 4X6 in the center. All four doors have 5.25 inch speakers. The rear deck has two 6X9's. I upgraded mine to kicker coaxials and they sound amazing! Hope this helps
