Car Stalling Problems

the 1998 ford escort does not have a fuel pressure regulator. It does however, have a fuel pressure sensor located on the fuel injector rail. It has a connector attached to it and can be removed by taking out the attaching screws and twisting and tugging on it.

You may have a lose carbi and it would be sucking too much air and the mixture would be wrong.

If air valve in cap is blocked, then no air can enter the tank as fuel is used. This causes a vacuum and stops fuel from pumping. Remove cap when motor is warm tank is only half full and drive for about 5Klm. If it doesn't stall then replace your fuel cap with a new one. If it still stalls then something else is the problem.

try the vac. hoses off the throttlebody it could be disconnected at the fuel pressure sender it has a t tha goes to the map sensor to then check the throttle possition sensor located on the throttle body just some known problems.

Yes it can, but it doesn't mean yours will. If your check engine light is on then the car is trying to tell you something is wrong. It turns the light on so you know to go to a mechanic and find out the code which will tell you in a human language what it thinks is wrong. In many newer cars you can find the code out yourself by plugging in a small hand held code reader or even by turn the car of then on three times (without starting it, just move the key to the on position, not start) and the code will display in the dash. Then you just need to google the make and model and code number to find out what is wrong. So find out what your car is trying to tell you then try to fix that, it will certainly increase your chances of passing emissions.

1) Incorrect alternator pulley.

2) Old serpentine belt is hardened.

3) Replacement radio uses too much power. Don't use it so much or install high-output alternator.

4) Serpentine belt contaminated with fluid. such as oil, power steering fluid, antifreeze.

5) Weak belt tensioner spring. Replace tensioner.

6) Replacement serpentine belt is too long.

7) Air conditioning system is overcharged. Noise will not occur with AC system turned off.

Misfires are caused by MANY different conditions. Any freezeframe data would be helpful. Is this a regular or random misfire? Does it occur only while cold? Mostly while hot? Mostly under load? Mostly during wet weather? What are the fuel trims at idle, 2500 RPM in neutral, and 2500 RPM driving?

It is idling to low, it may be in need of a tune up.

Had the same trouble with mine. It was the ignition switch on the steering column. Could also be the mass airflow sensor mounted on the fire wall above and to the left of the air cleaner.

Could be as simple as a bad engine ground ( the strap between your engine and frame that looks like braided hair ). Also possible that it has low fuel pressure, if you don't have any way to test that just start by changing your fuel filter. If that doesn't work it might be the fuel pump itself starting to get weak. actually it could be a large range of things you should try to be more specific. EX: stalls when hot, at lights, etc.

What could be the problem when a 2002 Volvo won't stay stared

My 1995 Nissan Quest is acting really strange. It is acting like its either misfiring or not getting enough gas and wants to cut out on me and it jerks sometimes hard. What could it be. I put new plugs and wires in, and just replaced the distributor cap and rotor for the distributor cap.

Vacuum leak; there is a slight load on the engine when stopped at a light because you are in gear, there is none when in park.

A car backfires because unburned fuel is getting to the muffler. The heat of the exhause system causes the fuel to combust, thus a backfire.

I have just been told that the rubber on my exhaust has split - could this be why the car would backfire?

back fire can be caused by different faults. first is to much fuel because of worn carburetter, or wrong adjusments on carburetter. choke sticking will cause backfire. timing be out of adjustment will cause backfire exhaust leak can cause backfire. bad spark plugs, or plug leads , distributer cap worn of cracked will cause backfire as for fuel in muffler, if it combusted in muffler , the muffler would split open it is not that. and i dont know of any rubber on an exhaust that would take the heat aexhaust manifold gaskets could be problem but if they were rubber they would melt \

It can also be done with intentional modification, such as done in ''Keeping Up Appearances'' British sitcom. A fuel line and an oxidizer line are added to the muffler with a manual rubber bulb pump added to the line as the ''backfire button.'' At a point before entering the muffler, the lines have a pair of backflow valves to prevent the flame from racing into the mixture tanks. Squeezing the bulbs dispense a mixture of pure alcohol and an oxidizer into the muffler to create a reaction. For Onslow's car in the TV programme, copier toner was squirted in the tailpipe for a heavy soot effect on the backfire command.

Having a car backfire can shake off any parts that aren't bolted completely, and can cause the engine to stall because the pressure of the backfire can temporarily disrupt the exhaust release from the engine.

Besides, it would spook horses, cows, or anyone not used to loud noises. So having the car backfire down a Harlem road won't have the same effect, as a car backfiring down a rural city road.

It could be a lot of things. My 2003 Geo Tracker does this, it will run fine on the road, but as it gets hot in town or idling in line somewhere, it will shut off and will crank but not start for about 10 minutes, then it will start and run fine until it gets hot again. My mechanics tried all the diagnostics, and couldn't find the problem, so I simply removed the thermostat so the car doesn't get so hot. Works fine. I am still looking for the solution, as I don't want to run the car without a thermostat forever. My mechanics are great, but say it could cost a thousand dollars to find an intermittent problem like that.

your gas tank is sitting too high and when you turn the fuel goes to one side and doesnt get to the engine happend to me

Battery, Alternator, Gas?, Spark plugs, loss of pressure in the enguine? is the car turning over at all? does it want to start? Does it do anything when you turn the key?

The crankshaft position sensor is on the right side of the engine just to the rear of the right hand exhaust manifold, the sensor is attached to the block with two bolts, part of the sensor overhangs the transmission bell housing. Look at the bell housing and start going up, you will see the sensor almost inline with the right exhaust manifold. It has a gromment that overhangs the transmissions bell housing. Use a flashlight from below and you will see it.

sorry, i dont know where else to put this information...

just as title says. one day after i had the oil changed, i had noticed that the pcv vacuum line was disconnected. when i hooked it back up, the car shut off. i had the valve replaced and the line and the box it connects to replaced. the problem still exists. ive been driving it around with it unhooked but it eats up much gas than usual. any ideas? thanks!

Do you have a MIL (check engine) light illuminated in your dashboard? if so, you should take it to autozone or advance auto parts and have them pull the codes on the car. You could even spend the money on a OBDII code reader to retrieve the codes on your own. This code would then allow you to identify the sensor that is malfunctioning.

There is more information needed to properly answer this question. For example...

Audi - Must reprogram the ECM (Engine Control Module). The car will start and idle but once you attempt to give it gas, it will immediately shut down. The Controller MUST be REPROGRAMMED and the computer to do so is not readily available

Dodge - Car will start and stop immediately, if you give it some gas (Idle @ 2,000) the computer will (LEARN) and will be able to reprogram itself.

There are just a few of the examples, more information is needed to properly answer the question but the fact is this.....

There are many things that can cause a car to stall while driving it. If the plug wires, plugs or coils are bad and are causing the engine to misfire, the engine will run rough. This may also cause the car to stall when driving. Generally, it will start back up, but it may be difficult to keep the car running. If your car stalls while you are driving it, look for an obvious reason first. Check to make sure you have fuel in the tank. Do not sit there and crank the car over, trying to get it to start, as you will quickly wear down the battery if it's not already bad.
