If the exhaust pipe is damaged can it cause the car to die and not want to start?
If it is restricted enough, the exhaust valves could burn out. Other than restriction, I wouldn't see how. Only if the pipes are pinched shut or almost completely blocked. Theres no backpressure it will stall out constantly or not start at all. (ever paint a potato black and stick it in someones exhaust pipe?) Theoretically, you can run the car with a huge gaping hole or no exhaust at all, it will sound like junk but it will run.
Car over heated and cut off now it wont start how can you fix this problem?
Run a compression test. If compression is down in several cylinders you've probably warped a head. That's a common problem after an engine has overheated, that's why it's so essential that you NEVER allow an engine to run out of coolant, and you should watch the temperature indicator.
If an engine dies from being overheated you've probably blown a head gasket.

You need to check all the connections on the starter and battery REAL REAL CLOSE
Check ALL grounds. Make sure they are tight and very clean.
If all that's okay then replace starter. Turn your head lights on and see if they go out
when you get someone to try to start engine. If they do then you have a bad connection some where. If thay stay bright and wires or tight then replace starter.
IS your battery good and at a full charge it should have at least 12.4 volts at the battery.

Try taking pressure off of the ignition switch by turning steering wheel. If that does not work try taking the handle of a screw driver and placing it against the ignition switch. Gently tap the end of the screwdriver with a hammer. This may be a temporary fix, but should keep you from needing a tow.
Make sure you have a battery, proper one) Put gas in it, put in key, turn. if all that fails make sure there is an engine. Check for power distribution do you dashboard,headlights and all that stuff work? if so replace your starter if it doesn't turn. make sure all cells in the battery are working. There is a toothed gear and a rack just behind the keyed switch. Perhaps the gear has jumped a tooth or two. If this has happened take it to someone that can replace both gear and rack. You may be able to "time" the rack and gear that's in there but if it has skipped once, it could happen again. The safe bet is to replace them.

your issue could probabally be a fuel pump. when u run a car out of fuel it runs the fuel pump dry and the only thing lubricating a "in the tank fuel pump" is FUEL

My colt would fire then die often. Run occasionally for a few minutes, then die. Ater replacing or cleaning everything. I found the MAP sensor was bad. Napa is the only parts store that has it. If you do a search for it on their web site you will see a picture of it.

if you remove the positive over night then put it on in the morning the computer will recalculate over a hundred miles then you can have it checked to see whats wrong

There is a relay between your ignition switch and the starter though. Check in the driver's side fender well above the fender skirting. You will find an inline relay.
