Well, that light isn't directly controlled by a fuse - it's controlled through the engine ECM. To pull a fuse for the sake of disabling that light, you'd have to pull the ECM relay.. the problem is, you'd disable the ECM, in turn, disabling the car.

If you are asking can it be driven with the engine light on the answer is maybe if you are referring to the Check Engine light. But, saying that, you should have this looked into by a professional. The Check Engine light is on because the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. It may be something that will destroy the catalytic converter which is very expensive to replace. It may also be a minor problem. You will not know until the code is retrieved from the ECU and the problem is diagnosed.

This light means the ECU has detected a problem with the emission system. Have the ECU scanned to retrieve the code that has been set. This code will tell you what part is being effected.

A great place to read information about check engine codes is in books created for automobile mechanics. There is some information provided on YouTube and on various websites, but in order to find out what the check engine code actually is, the automobile will have to be plugged into a diagnostics machine or a portable diagnostics reader.

The bank 1 sensor 1 oxygen sensor on a 2002 Honda Accord is located on the header. It is right next to the sensor circuit.

Have Auto Parts Store reset it , will do this for free.

A 2001 Dodge Ram does not have EGR.

Code 54 is the Camshaft Sensor Circuit

Bank one represents the side whether the spark plugs are odd numbered(1,3,6).Sensor two indicates the second sensor from the manifold downward toward the catalyst converter.Hope this helps.

turn engine off and all components in vehicle pop the hood and remove the negative terminal for at least 5 minuets replace terminal and check light if still not off repeat couple times. still having issues then there is a mechanical problem and there is a reason it is still on

Autozone can only scan 1996 and newer lincolns!

They CAN check the pre 96 ones but it requires them to actually look for the right connector and they are usually too lazy to do it so they just say they can't unless it's 96+. 96 got a standardized scanner across all make/model lines in US so just one code reader. When they are slow, they have checked the codes on my 94 Towncar several times. Half the time, I was told they couldn't do pre 96's and the other half they did it. They will also tell you that unless the check engine light is on, codes can't be read. That is also untrue. Codes are stored in memory for IIRC 500 ignition cycles or when the battery is disconnected, the codes are cleared.

One thing I have learned about Towncars is that damn EGR valve causes carbon buildup. Remove the throttle body. Right under that is a gasket. Go to your nearest napa store and get the gasket, it's like 3 bucks I think. Anyway, after you remove that you will see a small half canal that hides under the gasket. Most likely and it happens on all towncars especially if you use low grade garbage gas it will be clogged with carbon, get a can of gum out carbareutor cleaner and just clean it.try to clean it all nice and squeaky, Put the throttle gasket in(new one) and put back the throttle, reset the computer and let her fly, you see that check engine light go away.

that is so true!! went today to get a reading and told me only 96 on. it is lie, because last week the guy did the diagnostic for me. unfortunately he wasnt there today.

Hey Clifton==Takeit to Auto zone and have the codes read free. GoodluckJoe I have had mine tested and there is an error in the computer that gives false readings such as check engine, hot engine, etc. There is a computer chip that needs replacing, but I am told that the exact same number must be on the replacement computer chip. When each system is tested through the computer individually, it will test as ok, or in fine operation, yet the lights will continue to display randomly. This error could not be reset, only a replacement of the computer chip is what my mechanic told me to solve the problem. Until replacement, you will have to watch the fluids, temp, etc. manually (old fashioned way of checking the dipsticks & fluid levels) until this chip is repaired.

Have the Codes read by a code scanner; some autoparts stores do this with out charge (Autozone in Texas does this).

You can also purchase a code scanner, but they range from $150 - $500.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes, then reconnect. This will erase the codes in the computer that makes the CHECK ENGINE light come on. If everything is okay, the CHECK ENGINE will stay off.

Under the timing belt cover, sensor runs of tooth wheel on timing belt crank cog. job and a half.

You can only reset it with an OBDII diagnostic scaner

I have the same problem. I have noticed the oil guage sticks at 40psi even after overnight. I dont know why this is but it may be related. I am trying another sending unit tonight. I'll let you know how things work. OK I had this problem to it's a plug in the dathbord just live with it. I fixed mine but not worth the truble.

I'd check the alternator. It might have a problem maintaining brush contact at high speed.

it's leaking or not sealing properly, bad sensor and or wiring

possibly a transmission code from the ecm. i would have this checked soon. transmission damage possible.
