Why after checking for correct liquid levels does coolant leak from 1966 Corvette pressurized coolant reservoir overflow line after engine is shut down for 5 minutes or so?

When you mentioned you had checked for correct coolant levels what do you mean or think is correct? If you are filling the coolant level to the top of the radiator neck when the engine is cold (then you are overfiling the radiator - keep in mind your vehicle does not have a coolant recovery tank), once the engine heats up the coolant will expand and if the radiator was filled to the top of the radiator the expanding coolant will overcome the cap pressure (listed in psi on the top of the cap)I would recommend leaving the coolant level down approximately 1 inch from the overflow hose. If you are not overfilling the coolant level then it could be caused by a defective radiator cap. The pressure rating on the cap can be used to test the relief valve by using a radaitor/cap pressure tester (your local parts store more than likey has one that is available for customer use. Bottom line is a typical radiator should have a rating of 14 or 15 pounds. When they test the cap it should hold whatever the rating is on the cap. You will notice when the cap is tested it will quickly go t the rated pressure and slightly above then it should release the excess and remain at the prescibed poundage rating on the cap. If it does not hold replace the radiator cap. When you replace the cap I highly recmmend that you order one from your local GM dealer, due to the mettaurgy of the radiator (usually aluminum) if you put on a normal radiator cap you may end up with a problem with electrolysis which could cause pin holes in your radiator, heater core and even possibly in heavier metal parts. Again I would highly recommend that you replace it with OEM parts. Do not rely on the individual behind the counter at a non dealer parts house. He or she may not have the technical training and it couldcost you a $1,000.00 radiator. As I indicated earlier it is important to insure the radiator cap is working properly since 1 # of pressure increases the boiling point of water 3 degrees (at sea level). For example a 15 # radiator cap X 3 degrees would equate to raising the boiling point 45 degrees (3 X 15 = 45), add the 45 degrees to 212 degrees (the boiling point of water) and you end up with a boiling point of 257 degrees. When a car has a 190 degree thermostat it is designed to keep the car at approx 190 degrees as long as the car is running which will allow the water pump to circulate the coolant through the radiator which will allow the heat to disipate from the cooling system. When you turn an engine off the coolant temperature will raise 20 to 50 degrees, if it is already at 1190 degrees when running and it raises 30 degrees the temp of the water now exceeds the boiling point of water at sea level (if the radiator cap is not working the pressure would be the same as atmosheric presure) in other words the temp would be 190 + 30 = 220 degrees or 8 degrees above boiling and the coolant will boil and overflow. To diagnose your problem determine the proper coolant level, insure the cap holds the proper pressure and if there are stil problems you may have a radiator of coolant circulation problem with the engine. I did not discuss the fact that properly mixed oolant will also raise the boiling point of the coolant but the mi is more than likely not the issue unless you have pure anti-freeze. How do you change the rear shocks on a 94 Corvette if the upper bracket bolts are rusted and spinnig?

If you can get an impact wrench engaged on the nut, that will usually break it loose. If you can't get the clearance to use the wrench, use a pneumatic cold chisel on the edge of the nut. If it doesn't spin it off, you can use it to cut through the nut. This usually works, even on locking lug nuts where you've misplaced the key. Good luck.

How do you let the top down on 1987 convertible Corvette?

To put the top down on your '87; first reach between the seats, just under the edge of the hatch that will eventually cover the top. You'll find a lever that swings toward the driver side door. On mine, I have to click it twice to release both sides of the top. Then above each of the visors, there is a lever you must pull all the way over. This releases the pins on the front of the top. Now, on the end of each door, you'll see a small switch with an arrow on it. Click the switch and this releases the hatch. Now, standing outside, lift the back of the top so you can open the hatch. The hatch will remain in the up position. Then put the rear of the top back into the original position. Lift the front, toward the rear of the car, and your top will fold into place. Gently close the cover and you are topless!

1979 corvette hood releases but passenger side not releasong problem?

got same problem on one of my three vettes. no big deal. just needs adjusting after you get hood to open. first try to pull realease lever, if drivers side realeases, go to passenger side and firmly press down without re-locking mechanism and move hood towards drivers side or towards passenger side. need to shim hood latch and/or adjust hook underneath hood on the hood not the chasis. do it over and over til you get right. i know how to do it but never get around to it. good luck! it will work. also oil up all movable parts before closing after you get it open could be possible that the cable housing has pulled through on the left side mounting clamp too. will need to replace cable if this happens. cheap aftermarket cables are notorious for this.

What was the first year a computer was used in the Corvette?

1982 I believe was the first year to use any sort of computer in a corvette. The last of the C3, the 1982 was the first to use any kind of fuel injection since 1965. It used throttle body injection, which was a kind of carbeuration/fuel injection hybrid. The system used a crude (by today's standards) computer to monitor fuel/air ratios. It could make about 11 adjustments per second. For 1984, the throttle body injection on the corvette returned, this time able to make more calculations per second-around 80, I think. This was the last of year of throttle body injection in the corvette and the foret year of the C4. In 1985, the corvette received TPI (tunnnel port) injection.

How do you repair a 1987 corvette headlight motor The headlight opens O K but continues to run after it closes?

If your relays are working properly, you might have a stripped gear in the motor. You can replace the gear or the motor depending on your resources. If the headlight is loose, the gear more than likely has teeth missing.

Is the Ferrari faster than the Corvette?

The C6 Corvette Z06 is faster than F599 and comparable to the F430. But the new ZR1 Corvette is faster again: it lapped the Nurburgring in 7 min 26 sec compared to 7 min 42 sec for the Z06. The only factory-sec Ferrari that beats this is the Enzo (7 min 25 sec)
