I have a 2002 Impala and have had issues with the pass-lock system for a long time. When I first bought it, the doors would unlock or lock as we were driving down the road, on their own. Also, because of this issue, the battery would not last long, normally a couple of day. We had it in the dealership for a couple months on and off and they eventually said that the key fobs were bad and/or the batteries were going dead. They replaced the batteries and fobs and the problems went away for quite some time. Now I've got a new problem where the car just plain won't start. For some reason the OEM security function is setting off the starter kill. I bought new batteries for the fobs, still happened. I removed the batteries from the fobs all together, still happens. I am currently trying to figure out what is causing this new issue with the starter kill.

in my haines manual it does not say it controls the rear defogger, however it says it controls the fog lamp switch, door lock relay, park brake ind., fog lamp relay, high beam ind., headlamp relay, headlamp switch, auto light sensor sig., auto light sensor ref.. I replaced my body control module(01 impala ls 3.8) because i was told it was the cause of all my lights inside and out flickering, already replaced alternator before that. problem still persists. replaced negative battery ground wire also. The bcm is very easy to replace but needs to learned by your ecm. The dealer would have charged me 400-500 bucks. I bought the bcm from napa for 80.00 and programed it without a scan2 tool like everybody told me i needed. but like i said didn't solve problem, just throwing away time and money. Massive amounts of complaints are out ther for this problem for the impala and Monte carlo01-02. but Chevy will not recall because apparently it is not a safety issue. however ther is a technical service bulletin #010603005

HAVE YOUR THERMOSTAT CHECKED MINE DID THE SAME THING A MONTH AGO RAN HOT AND CRAKED HEAD AND UPPER INTAKE COSTED 2200 TO FIX TEMPETURE WAS NOT MOVING AT ALL BEFOR IT HAPPEN

3400 V6: Release tension on Belt Tensioner & remove Serpentine Belt from Power Steering Pulley. Place a large pan under the engine & lots of paper towels under the pump to catch the mess... With a Turkey Baster (borrowed from the wife!!!), remove as much fluid as you can from the Resivore???. Remove the PSF lines from the Pump. Through the holes in the pulley, remove the 3 mounting bolts. Installation is reverse. Fill the reservoir & put the cap on. Jack the car to clear the wheels of the ground. Start the engine & gently steer the wheels from stop to stop until you're sure there's no air left in the system. Lower the car, recheck the fluid level & clean up your mess. Give the wife back her turkey baster!!! As for the 3800 V6, it might be a good idea to remove first the Coolant Reservoir & the Alternator for access.....

Remove the center console remove the floor vent remove the heater core cover the heater core is right under the climate control unit remove the two screws that hold the heater core in place, open the hood and remove the heater hose from the heater core lines, now go inside and pull out the old heater core you don't have to remove the whole dash just the front of it

I had the same problem, I changed the fluid. The new fluid did slow down the slipping, I would get further distances before the transmission begin to slip but ultimately my transmission was wearing out and eventually needed replacing. The car was worth 1600$ while the transmission cost 2300$ I Didn't fix the transmission and traded it to the dealer for another car.

Just dropping the pan for a filter change, it will take 7 1/2 qts to refill.

Most SBC have a port next to the distributor.

assuming the crank is out,cool it in the freezer and warm the balancer ,the balancer should slip on. be careful ! I have not done this with a crank and balancer,but it works well in other applications. ie.sleeves in blocks.

There is 1 before and 1 after the catalytic converter.

Either the off or the lock position will cease current to all but the most critical systems. Not many of those are on a 64' Impala. Maybe a clock. If your battery is draining there could be a short circuit somewhere. You'll nee to trace it out with a test light or multimeter. Start at the fuse block and try to find circuits that have power, but shouldn't. Good luck. Nice car. Well worth your time.

It is located behind the crankshaft harmonic balancer pulley on the bottom front of the engine. The right lower splash shield and harmonic balancer pulley must be removed to replace it.

I don't believe they had that option back in 1976.

The thermostat should be on the top of the engine under the water inlet. Drain the radiator. Remove the top radiator hose from the inlet. Unbolt the inlet, and pull the thermostat out for replacement.

Should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator Remove this housing Make note how thermostat is installed Clean both surfaces Replace thermostat ande gasket Replace housing Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an airlock Start engien and look for leaks Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on Re-check coolant level

In my 1963 the fuse block is located on the driver's side floor tucked up under the dash beside the emergency brake

i just did it yesterday, u have to take the whole top end of the motor off(valve covers, coil packs, alternator, air box, plenum. ect) your best bet is the buy a Haynes repair manual
