Maybe that heater is air bound and needs to be bled. Remove "cooler" heater hose and let water run through heater until water runs hot--be careful HOT Water!!!
More likely is that the heater core is clogged. Mark the hose that is cool - this hose is the return from the heater core to the engine. Let the engine cool, carefully release any pressure in the system by slowly removing the radiator cap. Remove the two heater hoses at the engine block. You can adapt some garden hose fittings into the hoses. Connect your water supply to the heater hose you marked, connect a length of hose to the other heater hose and place the end into a 5 gallon bucket. This will allow you to see anything that is flushed out of the heater core. Slowly open the valve on your water supply. You are now reverse flushing the heater core, and probably have seen a bunch of crud enter your bucket as soon as you started the water flow. Flush until no more crud is visible entering the bucket, remove the garden hose hookups, reinstall the heater hoses at the engine, fill your radiator to the top, reinstall the radiator cap, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Check for heat.

Why is my 2001 Chevy Impala running hot?
it may be the relay switch or a fuse blown check under the hood in fuse box #1 and fuse box #2.
Assuming it didn't shake before, whoever tuned it up goofed somehow. So, pull the spark plugs and check to see if they're the correct ones and properly gapped. Also, check to see if the spark plug wires are installed properly. If all checks out, whoever tuned it up has done something to cause the car to run bad. Impossible to guess what.
Most cars will receive adequate air flow for cooling purposes when driving at usual speeds. A clutch fan saves gasoline by disengaging when engine revolutions per minute excede a certain value. If the engine is consistantly running hot, the problem probably lies in the ignition system. The vacum advance may be stuck, or the timing advanced too far. Your carb might be out of adjustment, and the engine running too lean. If the enginge is still runing hot after 15 minutes on the freeway, it is not the fan.
See {Hazard Warning Flashers} on page 150 of your "Owner's Manual" for info, and item "E" on page 148 for location.....

Start engine but shift lever would not move?
Many vehicles have a lock that prevents the transmission from being shifted into gear accidentally. If the transmission won't shift when you press on the brake, it's probably either the switch on the brake pedal, or the solenoid that releases the shifter. My 2004 Honda Odessey did the same thing. I figured it out when I noticed that the horn was also out, and the brake lights wouldn't work. There is a 20Amp "Stop" fuse located in the main under-hood fuse box on the left side of the engine compartment. If that fuse blows, it takes power from the horn and the brake switch on the brake pedal. Without that brake switch, the shift lock solenoid also looses power and you can't shift out of Park. If you can't replace the fuse, you can manually release the shift lever lock by prying off that little rectangular cover on the top of the steering wheel shaft housing. Once the little cover is off, you can insert a key or small screwdriver into the slot and press down to release the shift lever. The owners manual describes how to do this. Just check the index under "Shift lever locked". The manual says to turn the car off, and then use a key to release the shift lever. Once the lever is out of the "Park" position, move the lever down to "Neutral" and start the car. If you can't replace that Stop fuse you will have to do this every time you put the shifter back in Park. Hpwever, you should not drive the car because you will have no break lights!!!
