What was the purpose of the Berlin airlift?
The event known as the Berlin Airlift was the Allies' response to Stalin's act of closing the roads through East Germany and to the Allies' occupation zones in West Berlin. In order to supply that half of the city, British planes, along with some American, flew into the city to airlift supplies. It was the only safe way to do it, because Stalin wouldn't shoot down an army plane for fear of World War III.

What is the CPCz CC in regards to the KGB the Cold War and the Soviet Union?
It actually stands for Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (CPCz)
The Previous answer was incorrect due to the fact that that the Communist Party of the Soviet Union abbreviation is CPSU.
The CPCz and the CPSU were both Communist nations in Eastern Europe, and both members of the Warsaw Pact, which created the "Iron Curtain" that British PM Winston Churchill described. In 1968, what is known as Prague Spring, the SOviet Union, with the aid of its Warsaw Pact Allies (with the exception of Romania) invaded Czechoslovakia for fears that the reforms of Alexander Dubcek were too Liberal, and would cause the Warsaw Alliance to come undone. From then on the CPCz and the CPSU never saw eye to eye, and is probably the ready you have found it referenced in regards to the KGB.

A part of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet. During the days of the Czar (Tzar up until 1917) the Imperial Russian Black Sea Fleet was stationed there. The Black Sea Fleet was Russia's only surviving battleship fleet from the 1904 war with Japan. It was also the scene of the battleship "Potemkin" mutiny.
Why were Joseph McCarthy's charges so damaging to individuals?
That's a question that can't be answered without looking at the time in which it happened. In the early 1950s, the Cold War had begun, and Americans had deep suspicion of Russia and Communism as China was taken over by a communist regime in 1949, Korea became two in 1950 as the communists held what is now North Korea, and the Soviet Union was about test a nuclear bomb. Since the late 1930s, some members of congress had already been expressing concern about an alleged takeover of the USA by Communists, and Senator McCarthy capitalized on that fear and concern. FBI founder and head Herbert Hoover, an anti-communist fervor himself, also fanned the flames with names of people who were already dismissed, died, or did not exist. There was no internet yet, TV was still fairly new, and fact-checking was not a common practice, so if a congressman (and most were men) made an assertion, the press generally reported it without question. Until Edward R. Murrow took McCarthy on in the 1954 Army hearings, there was not much mainstream media critique of the claims he made, even though some members of his own Republican party (including President Eisenhower) were becoming more and more uncomfortable with McCarthy's accusations. But due to lack of a strong response, a lot of innocent people lost their jobs and their reputations.
In one televised hearings on CBS and the DuMont stations, McCarthy was seen as ruthless, arrogant, and a bully. The exchange between attorney Joseph Welch and McCarthy more or less ended McCarthy's career:
"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness...."
When McCarthy resumed his attack, Welch cut him short: "Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator.... You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"
Prior to this exchange, McCarthy accused the army of harboring "pixies" and "fairies." His general counsel, who also had the tool to instigate, Roy Cohn, was himself a homosexual, something that is known today but was not known back then.
Prior to that hearing, McCarthy had a positive 50% rating and after, it fell to 34%. I am leaving links for you to review. The first link concerning "McCarthyism" has listed on the bottom members of the film industry who were "blacklisted." Joseph McCarthy was censored by the Senate and anytime he stood up to speak, very few senators were present. The media also stopped covering him. He died as a result of alcoholism in 1957.
*Because he was a senator, he could not be sued for saying these things

How did the United States and the soviet union confront each other during Kennedy's term?
They never fought directly. They always competed against each other to see who would reach the moon, or rather, deep into space, first. America thought Russians were building secret weapons in space. They nearly went to war with each other.
Who was the father of foreign policy of containment?
George F. Kennan. He first coined the concept of "containment" in his "X article", which was published in Foreign Affairsmagazine in July 1947, right before the Cold War took off.
Relations between the United States and its NATO allies and the Soviet Union and its allies during the period 1946 - 1989 were often called "the Cold War" because of the continually adversarial nature of these relations in the absence of actual armed conflict.

What were the causes and effects of the Korean War and why did the US get involved?
The US got involved because they wanted to promote their capitalist ideals and protecting the capitalists in a communist "infested" zone was top priority. Also the Soviets were involved so they had to fight back
I am doing the causes for the Korean war as an 8th grade project, and the way I interpreted the cause for the Korean War was the fact that both sides wanted to unite but could not agree on what type of government, so the North tried to unite it forcefully by crossing the 38th parallel on June 25th 1950.
I am also doing a project on the Korean War and I was taught that the U.S. were involved because of the Truman Document. A promise that states that the U.S. will help any country fighting communism, that was brought up after WWII. Also because of their membership in the United Nations, and because South Korea asked the U.S. for aid.
I am doing an assignment on this and was told that part of the cause was Kim ii sung, the communist dictator of North Korea was convinced that people in the south, would welcome being ruled by his government.
Why did North Korea start the Korean War?
North Korea wanted to unify itself with South Korea and create one Korea under a Communist government.
Truman was the president of the USA during that period that first came up with the idea of the airlift and carried it through. Additionally, he introduced what is known as the "Truman Doctrine" which announced that America would do whatever possible to fight the spread of communism and free people who are resisting communist subjugation.
Stalin of course was still in power on the Soviet/Eastern side.
Winston Churchill was the prime minister of Great Britain.
Hope that helps! :)
