they are called lower control arms remove tires,brakes,rotors drive axles,remove bolts holdingcontrol arms,loosen ball joint bolt,the back bolt has cover remove it .i got control arms from partsgeek.com with bushsings ball joints ready to install for 35.00 each med. difficult job.

Yes it does if the car is moving. Because the CV joint is part of the axil if the car is moving the bad CV joint will be moving too. or No it will not make noise if the car is in neutral and the car is not moving.

pull off tire,then remove brake caliper,then remove the axle nut , then remove the rotor, then remove the nuts from the lower ball joint first put a jack under it then scribe under the hood where your mcphearson strut mounts then loosen the nuts then swing it out of the way along with the spindle then take a pry bar and pry the half shaft out of the transmission.reverse the steps to install the new one.

hi i have a citroen saxo s reg 1.5D and it is knocking like a drive shaft but it dont do it all the time what do u think i should do shall i try a new drive shaft?

It is probably the heat shield that is between the converter and the bottom of the car. It does what the name. They can be a pain to fix properly. I have always tried fixing mine but the "rattling" noise would always return sooner or later. I ended up taking mine off. Plus these heat shields get old and tend to vibrate relentlessly. Best best is to have someone you know take a look and see what they can do.

It is also possible that the ceramic compount "honeycomb" in the catalytic converter is breaking apart and/or broke loose inside the converter. If this is the case, you *might* fail emissions but it shouldn't hurt anything (other than failing emissions).

just buy a clamp for your heatsheild.. its the cheapest and easiest fix.

I fixed my heatshield with a screw gun and some self tapping screws . The shield is spotwelded in place. Find the areas that have came loose and screw, I used 3/8 inch panheads that where galvinized, they hold up to the heat very well and I hav'nt had anymore problems. I did this 2yrs ago and have had no problems.

CV stands for constant velocity joint. Like anything else mechanical, it fails with wear. It has balls and a cage inside it. It will pop and have slack in it. The boot can also fail, leaking the grease out of it and causing it to fail quicker. If it fails completely, the car will not pull and it can cause massive damage.

You will only have a CV joint on your back axles if you have an independent rear suspension (and the rear wheel are drive wheels). If that is the case, look for a large crack in the rubber boot surrounding the joint.
