What chemicals were used during the Korean conflict 1953 and 1954?

Chemical warfare, in the usual sense of gas grenades, etc was NOT used by either side in the Korean conflict, which was over ( as far as the US went) by l953- possibly some draw-down in troop transportation out of the war zones- as with Vietnam. The United States did not (Win) the Korean War. This fact is more or less glossed over and relatively few books deal specifically with this war- unlike the plethora of material on nearly every aspect, of World War II, from submarines to concentration camps of the Holocaust- Korea was not a popular conflict.

How did the minority groups struggle for civil rights begin in the 1950s?

The Civil Rights Movement began in the mid-1950s, and initially focused on litigation against segregation. Thurgood Marshall, who would become a Supreme Court Justice, successfully argued Brown v. Board of Education, proving segregation violated the Constitution. By the late 1950s, and early sixties, the movement centered around activist involvement in sit-ins, boycotts and voter registration drives in the south. The sixties focused on all levels of discrimination, using marches, sit-ins, and other forms of non-violent resistance. By that time, the world was focused on what was going on in the United States. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was passed, officially ending segregation in the United States.

What is Studebaker?

Studebaker was a company that lasted until the 70's. They manufactured cars and aircraft engines.

Their main focus was for the war effort, both WWI and WWII, however they did sell cars domestically as well. Everyone's focus was the war effort during WW I & II, so Studebaker was no different in that regard. What did make them different was that they had built large numbers of horse drawn wagons (starting in the 1850's) before entering the car business. They had their ups and downs, closing their main auto plant in South Bend IN in Dec. '63 (Merry Xmas!) and built their last cars in Hamilton, Ontario thru March '66. After that they survived as a holding company (they owned other businesses) until they were gobbled up in corporate mergers. They Studebaker Drivers Club is still active and has an excellent web site (I am a member) with lots more info.
