For example a car tends to have a ratio around 2.5:1
A small truck will have 3.5:1
A large pickup used for towing will have a 4.10:1
A Jeep Wrangler with oversized tires and used mainly for off roading may have a ratio in the 5:1 range
How do you find gear ratio in a f 150 rearend?
There are four ways to find a ratio.
1 A dealer can normally tell from the vin number.
2 There are normally tags or labels on the axle that have part number, gear ratio, and fluid requirement
info.
3 You can count how many times you have to turn the driveshaft to get one complete turn of the tires.
4 You can divide the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide by number of teeth on the pinion.

Will a 1979 Chevy truck differential interchange with a 1986 Chevy truck differential?
If you are talking specifically about the differential, then the answer is yes, but only if the two trucks have the same model of axle, and you also switch the axle shafts. If you are talking about the entire front or rear axle, then this is also possible. All straight front axle 4 wheel drive Chevy truck front axles can be interchanged (some will need conversion u-joints in the front driveshaft to connect). Also, 73-87 (and 88-91 blazer and suburban) rear axles can also be interchanged, with a caveat: 1 ton trucks have different rear axle spring pad spacing, and the 1 ton rear axles will not fit 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks without cutting, moving them, and re-welding.

How do you change the differential fluid in a 1999 Camry?
the differential can be found off the transmission by the left front tire. you have to jack the car up and put it on a jack stand for safety, or put it on ramps.
there is a plug that takes an Allen wrench (10mm I think) on the back side, and one on the bottom.
remove the one on the side first, and then the one from the bottom over a drain pain, and drain the old oil. the differential takes the same transmission fluid as the transmission does, it does not take any kind of gear oil.
the hard part of this is getting the oil back in the differential. I used a funnel and a long piece of clear tubing. you can pass the tubing down the engine compartment and put the hose in the fill plug hole (the first one you removed) and dump the oil in the funnel. I put in about 1/2 a quart to flush it out, then put the plug back in the bottom and filled it up.
Once the level is high enough to run out the fill plug, the differential is full. put the side plug back in and you are good to go.

How do you determine the rear axle ratio in your Dodge RAM 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel?
Jack up the rear of the truck so that both rear wheels are about an inch off the ground. Place jack stands (two) under the rear axle tube near each tire. Block the front tires with four pieces of small 2x4 boards. Place the transmission in neutral.
First we will check to see if the rear end is open or has a limited-slip differential: Grab the right rear tire with both hands and rotate it clockwise hard. If the left rear tire turns in the opposite direction you have an open differential (boo hoo). If when you try to rotate the right rear tire it doesn't want to rotate or catches or grabs, you have a limited-slip differential (yeah). Now we will determine the gear ratio: Crawl under the truck with a grease pencil or piece of chalk. Place a mark on the inside of the right rear tire near the pavement and also place a mark on the pavement. Then place a mark on the drive shaft near the rear universal joint. Now grab the drive shaft with both hands and start rotating it. Take note of how many times the drive shaft turns to make the tire mark come back to the same spot. If you turn the drive shaft slightly more than four turns you have a 4.10. If you turn the drive shaft slightly more than than three and a half, you have a 3.55.
What is the rear differential fluid capacity of a Chevy 14 bolt rear end?
When I changed the fluid in mine it took 3 quarts to fill it up. Also if you have a posi-trac rear end you will need to put in a Posi additive. You can get it at Oreillys or AutoZone. If you don't put in the additive the rear end will make a clunking sound when turning.

If the transmission has a leak and the car wont drive when its in gear what is the cause of it?
Are you asking the cause of the leak or cause of the not moving problem. If your fluid is low that may be the problem right there. YOU CAN BURN OUT A TRANSMISSION BY NOT KEEPING FLUID FULL!!!
