How do you stop the leak at the coolant return hose on the water pump of a dodge 5.2 liter engine?

If the hose is cracked, loosen the clamps and replace the hose, if the leak is coming from the housing attached to the block then you have to remove the accessories and the mounting block (be carefull not to break or dissconnect the A/C hoses... it will damage the equipment and cause personal injury (I am not liable for any injury or damage to any equipment)) then remove the housing, clean the surfaces, replace the gasket (and would be wise just to replace the thermostat while you are at it) and put it back together.

How do you replace a 1989 dodge Dakota thermostat?

Follow top radiator hose toward engine. remove bolts holding housing to engine. remove housing. remove old thermstat & remember how it was in there. (spring toward engine) remove old gasket from emgine & housing. Now reinstall new gasket & thermstat

How do you replace the heater blower motor in a 1992 dodge Dakota v6?

double check that it's the motor most times it's the resister for the fan speed

In the firewall on the passenger side of the truck is the blower motor speed resister coils, they burn out alot. I could not find one for my Dakota so I got one from a dodge caravan and I changed the wirring, that is the most likely problem

When driving on a wet or slippery road it can take at least two to three times longer than it would on a dry road?

To stop? Absolutely, in fact up to five times longer in some conditions.

To travel from one place to another? Again, yes, if you are driving safely.

What might cause a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker to overheat?

I had a 99 tracker that over heated, it was the water pump

New to this forum. I needed to expand on my question of what causes my Tracker to overheat. I have recently replaced the radiator cap and thermostat. This vehicle has about 60,000 miles and I bought it used at 50,000. It seemed well taken care of and I've had no problems till this.

Since the weather has turned chilly this thing overheats. It pushes the coolant in to the overflow bottle and overheats. I have noticed no pattern to when this happens, I can't predict with any certainty if driving conditions are causing overheating. I've been getting by till now by pouring the contents of the bottle back in the radiator. Sometimes this will get me by for a day or two, or I might only be able to go 20 miles and it overheats again. I do not detect a leak at the water pump. The inside of the radiator looks clean, what I can see I do not detect any scale or sludge.

Does anyone have any ideas? If more information is needed let me know.

Answer

1 Water pump drivebelt defective or not adjusted properly ? 2 Radiator core blocked or radiator grille dirty and restricted ? 3 Fan blades broken or cracked ?

Hi im not sure if this applies to you or not but im thinking belt slipping @ water pump or some pumps have plastic fins on the inside if they were worn or broken you would be getting very little circulation through the system.

Have you checked to see if the cooling fan clutch is still functing properly?

I actually had a very similar problem with the Tracker I bought just over a year ago. My temperature gauge would climb, but not quite enter the red zone; it would stabilize for a while then drop back to normal. I tried 2 thermostats, the serpentine belt, and a new water pump; but the problem just got worse, the gauge would go up faster and get closer to the red zone. I finally took it to the shop, and the tested for exhaust gases in the cooling system; it had a leaky head gasket. I had the head gasket replaced, and haven't had any problems with the temperature since.

How do you change the blower motor resistor on a 2001 Dodge Dakota?

Under the passenger side dash/glovebox you will see a wiring harness/connector. It can be hard to see unless you lay on your back on the passenger floor. you will need a socket-and a flashlight/light of some kind. An extension for your socket wrench MAY help you get the right bolt out. If you are having trouble getting the left bolt out you may need to remove the front bolt from the plenum (the thing the air comes from when set to floor/feet). There is a pain in the butt bolt behind the plenum that you may need to loosen to get enough room to move the plenum out of the way. Carefully push the plenum to the front of the truck being careful to not break it! You just need enough room to get the resistor bolt out.

Once you fight with the wiring harness and get it disconnected READ THE RESISTOR INSTRUCTIONS! The new ones have extra tabs that MUST be cut off, if this is the case there will be an instruction sheet with the new resistor. I used a good pair of kitchen scissors.

Before installing the new one inspect the old one. If there is a burnt looking pin (usually #2-second pin from left-there should be numbers on both resistors) you will need to get a new wiring harness, unfortunately I can only find one at the dealer or a salvage/junk yard.

If everything looks good or you have now replaced the harness bolt in the new resistor then carefully pull the plenum back into place. It needs to fit correctly to work. There is a bit of flimsy foam that needs to be in the right place so it won't block airflow. If you accidentally ripped this off you can do 1 of 2 things.

1) use camper tape on the piece the plenum goes over. in other words the piece that is attached to the truck not the removable plenum. It will have to be thin camper tape

2) duct tape the outside of the plenum. there are other tapes you can use but you need to be able to remove the tape for future repairs.

How do you remove the distributor gear in a 1989 Dakota?

Remove the clamp for distributor. Remove distributor, making a note how it is orientated for #1 position. Also check which way slot in drive faces for reasssembly. With a strong magnet, reach down in distributor hole and allow magnet to pull up on distributor drive gear...if it is reluctant to move...rotate drive gear back and foreward with a screwdriver in the gear center, while pulling up with the magnet. Drive also turns the oil pump and it may need a slight engine turn to free it up..

Where are the brake light fuses for a Dodge Dakota?

Depending on the model and year of the Dakota, there are three possible locations for the fuse boxes. Older years had just the fuse panel under the driver's side dashboard left of the steering column. Newer models have a fuse box under the hood behind the battery and sometimes another fuse panel on the driver's end of the dashboard between the dash and the door accessible only with the door open.

Note that the brake light fuse may be marked 'stop light', 'ST LT', 'ST LAMP', etc., not necessarily 'brake' light, especially in newer models.

Clutch squeaking when engaged and disingaged on 1998 dodg Dakota can hear it in transmission what could be the problem?

The throw out bearing may not be releasing properly. The pilot shaft bearing may be bad. The clutch itself could have a broken spring, or the slave cylinder could not be allowing the clutch to disengage properly. There should be an access hole on the bell housing to look and see what's happening (with the engine not running.) If you don't see a problem then the transmission will need to be removed to find the cause.
