What is fault code no BU5 on a Dodge Durango?
This fault code appears in the odometer display (at least it did on mine). It's actually "no bus" as in no communication "bus" (a computer term for a data route). What it is saying is that the dashboard sub-computer is not communicating with the main computer (PCM) which is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment, bolted just above the wheel well area. Check the 3 connectors to see if they are plugged in all the way. If they are, your PCM is probably bad (mine lasted 90k miles). This is something you can't replace yourself because the new one must be programmed with the milage and VIN and other info by MOPAR before it's installed. Be careful, because when the PCM fails, your money pit (Durango) will start to suddenly stall at the worst times (Freeway, Boat launch, stop light on a one lane road) and not restart until you disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect. Good luck! The dealer charged me $800 to replace mine. $500 for the part and $300 to diagnose the problem. And I told them it was a bad PCM when I brought it in. No need to go to a dealership if it is the PCM... you can purchase refurbs on the web from $199 and all you have to do is supply the VIN, milage and a couple of other things so that it can be programmed correctly and sent back to you so that you can install yourself... some sites also offer a warranty benefit if you send your old unit in for remanufacture. Just use a search engine with key words like "2002 Dodge Durango, PCM" Ted

How do you replace a positive battery cable on a 2002 durango?
Replacement of automotive positive cables is pretty much the same for all vehicles, so this answer will be generic in nature. Safety first ALWAYS. Any time one is working on a vehicle when there is even the slightest possibility of a tool coming into contact with a "hot," electrically energized conductor [wire, terminal post, bare connector, etc] it is imperative that the entire electrical system be disconnected from the battery FIRST. The safe way to do this is to first remove the NEGATIVE cable clamp from the battery negative terminal post by loosening the bolt on the cable clamp, and lifting the clamp off. Tension in the negative cable may cause the clamp to move back into contact with the terminal, so it is important that the cable be moved so that it cannot accidently recontact the teminal while you are working. Then loosen the positive cable terminal clamp and remove the clamp from the battery terminal post. Next, follow the positive cable to it's other end. There will be some type of connector [usually a metal "eyelet"] connected to an isolated solenoid or positive buss terminal bolt. With a properly sized wrench, loosen and remove the cable from the terminal bolt. IF the threads are dirty or corroded, removal will be easier if you first clean them with a small wire brush, and apply a small amount of penetrating oil, or something like WD-40. Install the new cable in the reverse order of above instructions. IF you have alternate transportation available, I recommend that you remove the old cable first, and take it with you to the auto parts supply store in order to make sure that you get the exact same replacement cable on the first trip. If you cannot do this, then when you get the new cable, take it out to the parking lot, raise the hood, and match it to the old one.

How do you change the heater core on a Dodge Durango?
How do you fix an evaporative emission control system leak in a Dodge Durango?
The most common leaks come from 5/16" vacuum lines that go from the evaporative purge solenoid to the intake manifold. If you look on the driver's side fenderwell, you will see the main fuse box. In front and under this black box, there are two lines that run to the engine. These lines get brittle with age and crack and leak. Sometimes you can listen top the engine run with the hood up, and actually hear the leak and pinpoint the source.
Also check the hoses in front of the fuel tank underneath.
