The ipm is the combination of the under hood fuse box and the front control module that is attached to it.

There is one of each and they are located on the left (or driver's side) of the transmission. The front one is the input sensor right by the dipstick tube, and the rear one is the output sensor. Must be careful when tightening the new ones since the are plastic.

There is no advance for a 1998 Dodge 5.2. You just set the distributor at the mark on TDC and the computer takes care of the rest.

It is set to 0 degrees with a scan tool. It can not be done with a timing light.

In 2000 Dodge offered both the 5.2L Gas V8 and the 5.9L Gas V8 in the 1500. The 5.9L is a little more common, but you could have either.

I would firstly suspect the head gasket.If the gasket is blown between them two cylinders and the waterway or oilway, this would cause the cylinder to become contaminated with either oil or water which would prevent it from running.To check this, remove the oil filler cap and look for creamy emulsified oil or you may see bubbles appearing in the coolant when the engine is running. Your best bet is to purchase a Haynes or Chilton manual for your vehicle as there are several variations of capacities between the engines. For example the 4.7 V8 holds 6 quarts of oil and the 5.2/5.9 V8 holds 5 quarts of oil. There were 4 different models of transmissions used all of which have different fluid capacities. Transfer cases varried for the 4WD models and even the cooling systems had different capacities between the 4.7 which holds just over 4 gallons of coolant where the 5.2/5.9 only holds a little over 3 1/2 gallons.

The signal light flasher is located on the fuse panel.

The fuse panel is mounted below the dash on the right side of the steering column.

Check and/or change the gap cap, then check the vacuum hose connection from purge valve to intake manifold. Once you've verified good connection...check the vac hose coming off the purge valve, follow it all the way back to the charcoal canister as well as checking the connection to the canister, also check to see if any charcoal bits are leaking from the canister 'system must be blown out if so before any replacement part re to be installed'. Last is the gas tank, There is a rubber cap thats blocks an outlet nipple 'on the top near cab'...this cap like to crack and can even leak gas when driven...check it and fix if necessary.

Just a start...next would be a smoke test on the evap sys.

it works by vacuum .if it is not working more often than not a vacuum hose is rotted. this one is hard to get at . it runs from the top of the engine to a round black ball down by the passenger front tire .start by finding the ball [a little bigger than a soft ball ]and trace the small hose back to the tee connector under the dog house [engine cover] i have used small gas hose and silicone and it works great.hope it helps and good luck.

You need a .010 (intake) and a .020 (exhaust) feeler gauge first off. I can't remember the torque specs so look them up. With the valve cover off the first rocker will be intake followed by exhaust, repeat times 6. Bar the engine over in normal (clockwise) direction as viewed from the front of the engine until #6 valves are in overlap (bar the engine over a couple of times and watch the valves open and close, there will be a point when the exhaust valve starts to close and the intake starts to open, both rockers will have tension on them, this is overlap). With #6 in overlap you can start at #1, both the intake and the exhaust valves will be "loose" meaning you can move them up and down a little bit. The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4 are companion cylinders meaning that they go up and down at the same time but are 180 degrees out. Set this up as

1-5-3

6-2-4

This works with any four stroke firing order to find the companion cylinders. This is needed to know which stroke the other cylinders are on to adjust them. If 6 is on overlap (just finished exhaust stroke, going to intake) 1 will be on power and both valves closed completely.

Caution!!! Do not run the overhead with the engine hot. The valves will shrink when they cool causing your adjustment to be completely off. Make certain you use the .010 on intake and .020 on exhaust, do not mix them up! Do not bar the engine over counterclockwise. This will remove and reverse the gear lash and your adjustment will be off, better to bar the engine over another full rotation than to bar it backward.

If you have never used feeler gauges or are not mechanically inclined I really recommend taking your truck to a pro.

So, with #1 in power (#6 in overlap) you can adjust #1 intake and exhaust, #2 intake, #3 exhaust, #4 intake, and #5 exhaust.

Bar the engine over so that #1 is in overlap (#6 in power) and you can adjust #2 exhaust, #3 intake, #4 exhaust, #5 intake, and #6 intake and exhaust.

Sorry if this is too much info but I have had to rebuild too many of these things due to people's lack of knowledge and I would hate for anyone to mess up their engine.

Kick-down cable could be snapped. Also, if that's not the prob, then follow the cable to the lever and see it if moves.. if it is stuck, it could be rusted, try P.B. Blaster, it worked for me in only 3 applications and two days of sitting.
