The brake fluid level may be low in the reservoir. If the reservoir is low it's telling you the brake pads are worn down. As the brake linings wear down the fluid level drops and eventually turns on the brake light. Have a mechanic check your brakes soon. See "Related Questions" below in case the brake light in question is/are the ones in the taillights. Not uncommon for Windstar brake lights to turn themselves on.

Check the throttle position sensor. It tells the computer what the position of the throttle is. If it's loose it can cause a problem. If not loose, measure the resistance across the mid-upper pins and then the mid-lower pin. Exercise the throttle during each measurement. Not sure what you should see for a reading off the top of my head, but it will change if the sensor is working. TPS can also cause idle to raise and lower before finally shutting down the engine. Don't know if you see those symptoms or not. or try the fuel pump and or map sensor. i had the same problem on my 93 ta. it worked

It's possible that the breather on the tranny is blocked with road/engine sludge, thusly allowing pressure to build within the unit, which forces tranny fluid up the speedo cable. This occurred on a Ford Probe that we had in the family. I attached a new rubber hose to the original breather, and ran it further up into the engine compartment to avoid a repeat of the occurrence. Your best bet would be a GM dealership. If not them, then a Toyota dealer. Just tell the Toyota dealer that it's a Corolla, not a Prizm.

***These transmissions are prone to failure when abused, at all. The problem you are describing sounds like intermittent failure of the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) system within the transmission. This will require diagnosis/repair by a qualified mechanic. Do not have the transmission flushed, transmission flushes are not necessary and can damage your transmission. Even automobile manufacturers recommend against flushes - The only necessary periodic maintenance on an automotive transmission is regularly scheduled changes of the transmission filter & fluid.

I have personally experienced ABS and Traction control problems in the past. My problem was due to a faulty wheel speed sensor. These are a time consuming and difficult fix if you do not have the proper tools, so your best bet is to bring it to an auto repair shop or even the dealer.

It could be a wheel speed sensor, or if you live in a place that's cold or has harsh roads, then it can be an ABS wire. If the lights on your dash come on for BOTH traction control and ABS, that's normal. Traction control system and ABS systems use alot of the same components and are linked. Another possibility is that the problem was fixed and the codes haven't been erased. But........ if you have -40�C winters... it will happen all the time, lol.

your ABS computer sets codes sort of like the one that might turn your "check engine" warning light on. Most garages will have the proper diagnostics to retrieve the code and tell you what is wrong. It could just be something as simple as a dirty wheel speed sensor.

Look on the inside of the liftgate and you'll spot a plastic trim panel/piece directly behind the High Mount brake light. Gently pry this piece off and you'll have access to the bulb and socket.

yes. impossible actually if you dont have access to a press. first remove the wheel, brake caliper, rotor and the large nut on the end of the drive axle. it also requires removing the steering "knuckle" which mounts in 3 places, to the bottom of the strut, to the lower control arm, and the outer tierod. the hub must then be pressed out, then the bearing. replace the hub and bearing again using the press. installation is reverse of removal. You may also change the bearing without removing the "knuckle from the vehicle... if you own a cutting torch and a slide hammer

it´s possible that a bad hydraulic lifter is working dry.

Yes - it just may be coming loose again in the near future. Look at any bending or if the retainer clip is misshapen that can be straightened out.
