Can you use ethanol in a 1991 Geo Metro?
Yes.
If you have a mechanical background and understand engine technology, no problem. Floyd Butterfield the Godfather of ethanol has an old Ford pickup running on 100% ethanol with little modification. It is a warm weather fuel. Meaning much technology to run E100 upon cold weather, so unless your into basic research don't go their. Instead burn E85 or the plain old E10.
If you still desire to burn E100....You have to increase your carburetor jet size slightly, reference internet site that have step by step instructions. Advance of timing until the tell tale engine knock than back off to ensure little of this activity. You will get better MPG by increasing compression ratio. Take the highest pistons and head mill for 14:1 compression.
If you just want to know, if your car can fill up on ethanol. Yes you can. The E10 and up to E30. No mods required.
How many mpg do you get from a Geo Metro with a Suzuki motor?
I picked up my Metro used and it already had 100,000+ miles on it. I understand that if they are well cared for 300,000+ can be the life span. In response to your question, I drive 30 miles one way to commute to work and also do some in town driving. I have averaged between 40 and 45 MPG. Gave the car a tune up when I first got it and have had to replace the rear brake pads. My "check engine" light has been on for months and I understand the sensor is bad. Does not affect the performance so I'll probably never replace it. However, I now have a bad dimmer switch...look out! This little puppy costs $400 at the parts store. Fortunately, I've located a one at the local junk yard for $25. I love this little car!
I have a 1991 Geo Metro , I have installed a cat back exhaust system,a K&N aircleaner, ram air,a performance camshaft, underdrive aluminum pulleys,MSD ignition coil,8 degree advance cam sprocket, and a resistor for my AIT,I get an honest 53 mpg at over 70 miles per hour........I am installing headers next month, the car has 168,000 miles on it an has been overheated 12 times by my son,and I have ran out of oil completely a few times, this is an amazing little engine......I have a more powerful engine almost ready to go in as soon as this one dies, but I have been waiting a long time for this one to die. I have a 1998 metro with a 3 cylinder suzuki engine and 5 speed manual transmission (150,000 miles). It is used as a to and from work car and goes through city and light highway. It has averaged 47 miles per gallon for the past year. GM and Suzuki have had a proffessional relationship for years. The two companies currently operate a shared plant that used to produce Suzuki Swifts and Geo/Chevy Metros. It now produces Suzuki Areos and Chevy Aveos. With very few exceptions the 1.3L motors found in these cars are identical. The same for the 1.0L three cylinder. As an aside, both these motors will work (with some slight modifications) in Suzuki Samurais. So when you are junk yard shopping don't pass on either car. They are virtually the same. try cleaning throttle plate and reseting code by discoecting neg battery cable.mine did same thing for monthsThe Metro and Aveo are not and were not manufactured in the same plant, and they do not share the same engine. The Aveo is made by the former Daewoo company, mostly in South Korea. The Metro was made in Canada, and previously in Japan.
The difference is significant because the Aveo's get poor mpg when compared with the 3 cylinder Metro.
the above answer is correct the aveo and metro are not the same car and have nothing to do with one another.
What does an IAT sensor on a 1991 Geo Metro do?
The IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor measures the temperature of the intake manifold. The ECM uses this sensor reading to set injection timing and adjust the air-fuel ratio. If the fuel mileage and power output of you engine seem low, some owners have found improvement in EGT, fuel economy, and power after cleaning carbon from the IAT sensor in at the rear of the intage manifold. Engine with exhaust brakes are particularly prone to IAT sensor fouling because soot is blown back into the intake during valve overlap.
What is the Ticker for Metro PCS?
I believe this link answers your question http://investor.metropcs.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=177745&p=irol-faq No need to thank me I just googled, "metropcs ticker symbol".
Yes you can. However I would recommend that you use a flatbed towtruck because the geo metros short length may cause the towtruck to scrape your chassis along the ground. A flatbed can tow any kind of car but a standard tow hitch truck may scrape or even bend your chassis, hope this helped :)
If you get luck there might be a real jewel. If find you don't get luck you will just find a bit of sparkles on the inside of the rock.
What is the wheel lug bolt pattern for a 1992 geo metro?
the bolt patter for my 1992 geo metro on a 12" wheel is a 4x100
Can you buy a non-Metro PCS phone and use it with Metro PCS?
it depends on the serves you try to switch it to
How do you repair the horn on a 97 Geo Metro Is there a fuse?
The fuse should be under the "wheel" inside, beside the brake petal. There should be a fuse box there.
If the fuse is not blown, the Metro has a mechanism inside the steering wheel that often goes bad. It's a wire wrapped around on itself that winds and unwinds as you turn the wheel, rather than a slip ring. This mechanism often fails with age, and must be replaced- it can't be repaired. To work on it puts you in the immediate vicinity of the air bag, which means you probably don't want to do it yourself if you are not an experienced mechanic/electrician. Think: "boom"!
I have seen people cut the horn wire under the dash near the fuse box, and wire in a momentary contact switch to ground, completing the horn circuit. This is not a good idea; in an emergency, you will likely reflexively pound on the horn buttons on the wheel, which you have just disconnected. If someone else is driving the car, this is even more likely.
Bottom line- if the fuse is not the problem, a decent shade tree mechanic can replace the faulty part. Otherwise, it's time to go to a auto electrical shop.
Where do you find the crankshaft position sensor on a 98 Chevy Metro?
Hi there, You can find the Engine Crankshaft sensor for a 1998 Chevy Metro in the bottom front of the oilpan. Note, it goes thru the oilpan but, it's Not part of the oilpan or in the "oil chamber" itself. It's held in place with two (2) bolts. No oil will come out when you remove it. There is one (1) electrical connector on the sensor. Note, this can be easily mistaken for the oil pressure sensor. Note, they are prone to getting "dirty", so clean it off after removing. Good luck. John
How do you remove the radio from a 1998 Geo Metro?
This may not apply to your model but, some Later models of the Geo provided access to the radio through the glove box. The bracket in these models can be accessed from the glove box and then the radio can be pushed out of the dash board.
new answer headlineThere were no 98 Geo Metro's, only Chevy metro's. They require a special tool to release holding pins.1991 Geo Metro engine diagram?
You will need a chiltons, or haynes manual. Otherwise your local library may have these and you will be able to copy the pages you need, good luck
Why does your idle speed drop when cooling fan kicks on?
Because u are pullin powert from the battery which makes the alternator kick on to keep the battery charged.....
How do you replace the exhaust system on a 1998 Geo Metro LSI?
I am uncertain about the 1998 LSI. However, for the 1993 Geo Metro there are two bolts located at the bottom of the exhaust manifold which need to be removed, then there is a hanger right behind the engine on the firewall which has a rubber piece on it from which the exhaust system is suspended upon. The easiest way to get that off is to pull the rubber piece off of the end of it. In total there are three hangers on the "93" Metro exhaust system with a place approximately in the middle where the exhaust system is bolted together with two bolts. I certainly could be wrong, however I can't imagine the exhaust system being too different on a "98" LSI. If a person takes a board, like a 2X6 and puts it under the passenger side of your vehicle, another 2X6 and places it on the ground under the passenger side of your vehicle and uses it for a base to place a jack upon, and uses the first 2X6 as a buffer between the top of the jack and the bottom of the car to eliminate any buckling of the underside of the car due to the small amount of area the top of the jack is lifting the car by, lift the car up. The passenger side of the car is the side usually where you will find the exhaust system. Once a person has the car jacked up fairly high (12 inches or more) then it is an easy process (usually) to slide under and replace the exhaust system. I am not an certified mechanic and from start to finish I can replace the exhaust system on a "93" in about 20 to 30 minutes. Hope this at least gives a person sort of Idea of how to approach that small task.. rhage2
Where are the fuses in a 1997 Geo Metro?
Depends on what fuses you're looking for. The electrical and various small fuses are located on a fuse panel underneath the drivers side dashboard (around the brake pedal area). The main engine fuses (bigger and more important fuses) are located under the hood, usually on the right side in a medium sized plastic box with a fuse diagram. Hope this helps :)
What size speakers fit the rear of a 1996 Geo Metro?
6 ¾". Standard 6½" speakers can be made to fit by drilling the mounting ring, but it would be best if purchasing new speakers, to buy ones that already have an adapter ring included or are already designed to fit 6¾".
Also, because the speakers are mounted low in the door, choosing ones with a pivoting tweeter would be wise.
Where is the thermostat located on a 1993 Geo Metro 3 cylinder?
It is inside the part where your upper radiator hose is fastened onto the motor.
Troubleshooting 1996 Geo metro?
I am losing antifreeze in my 1996 Geo Metro 1L. Compression is 120/120/150. Would it be the head gasket or a cracked head to the exhaust? Thanks Al
Why is your Geo Metro stuck in park?
Back up system fuse burned out and the tranmission has a lock out for park. Try changing the fuse and looking for a short in the brake lights or turn signals.
What would cause the front wheels to become too hot to touch on a '92 metro?
This could have been caused by a blocked port, or stuck valve in the master-cylinder. The fluid was considerably dirty (cloudy-brown). I replaced the master-cylinder, and completely flushed, and bled the brake system to correct the problem.
You should also check the condition of the brake-pads and surfaces (drums & rotors), as well as the actuating cylinders for heat damage (blue or "rain-bow" coloring on the shiny metal surfaces=heat-stress). If heat damage is indicated check with a reputable service center to see if the parts can be resurfaced, or if molecular damage has occurred and requires replacement of the affected drums and rotors.
If you have little or no brake lining left, this may have caused the slave-cylinders to "run-out" past the normal range. This may also be evident by a damp or wet appearance (brake-fluid has leaked), and the breach in the seals can introduce dirt and/or water, and air into the system, as well as lowering the amount of brake-fluid available, which likely led to the failure of my master-cylinder.
Some indications of stuck brakes:You may notice a softer or less responsive brake-pedal (air, or contamination in the system), engine temperature running higher (due to increased load), a low level of brake fluid in the reservoir, poor fuel-mileage, and harder shifting (manual or automatic), or otherwise feeling a loss in power as though you were going up a steep hill (when your not). And that hot metal smell I mentioned, and the hot to touch you mentioned; indicates the brakes are not fully releasing when your foot is off the brake-pedal. If you are leaving your foot on the brake-pedal (even lightly) this is called "riding the brakes", and will cause excess heat and wear, along with reduced fuel-mileage, and adds extra load to the engine and transmission...the remedy for this however is free! Take your foot completely off the braked-pedal while you are driving!
Not changing the brakes before they reach below manufacturer's minimum lining thickness...is not only dangerous (you may not stop in time in an emergency)...it also can cause many more problems (time & expense) later on. This is true for any routine maintenance standards.
Heavy braking. suspension so weak it is forcing the calipers to squeeze onto the rotors. But most likely the calipers are seized or the last time the pads were changed, they weren't installed professionally. That is doing the little things like using the correct hi temp grease, cleaning surfaces that should move, etc.
You can't get your transmission to shift into any gear including park on your 1996 Geo Metro?
Thils is a typical problem in the geo transmission. There is a check valve in the shift body of the transmission. It is easily fixed and costs next to nothing. If you haven't fixed it by now contact me and I'll give you the information. Mr Geo Metro leehduncan@verizon.net
How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1999 Geo Metro?
The thermostat is under the top radiator hose. Remove the radiator hose at the top of the engine, below the hose flange sits the thermostat. just pull it out and replace it with a new one, then replace the hose over it. hope this waas the help you wewe looking for.
