Follow the 4 spark plug wires from the top of the engine valve cover to the distributor cap. To change the cap remove and label the wires so you can insert them in the correct position. To remove the cap remove the mounting screws. Once you remove the cap you will see a rotor which is also attached by a screw on the side. Replace the cap and rotor and reconnect the spark plug wires in the order noted prior to removal.

Trace your top radiator hose to the engine. Where it stops is your thermostat housing. It should be under the distributor. It has 2 10mm size nuts that have to come off, then you can remove the housing and pry the old thermostat out. Of course you have to drain some of the anti-freeze out before you begin and you'll need to disconnect the top hose from the thermostat housing. It only takes about 20-30 minutes to do this little job.

I'm not sure about the 1993 model but in the 2001 they don't have "Freon" (meaning R12) any more. The refrigerant is stored in that silver canister on the front left side of the engine-bay. R12 is expensive to replace. AC service providers are EPA licenced to service R12 & R134 systems, but they won't sell you the "stuff". So, you have to go to a service provider. I hope this helped. == 1993 Prizms still used Refrigerant-12, commonly known as "Freon". Later models use R-134. Refrigerant is distributed throughout the system. The excess refrigerant and oil is held in the drier/receiver. If you have a tight system and can afford it, stick with the R12. You will not regret it. Retrofit to R134 can be very problematic and expensive.

In the 90 prizm I have the starte kinda looks like a big black rectangularish box. It's located at the back of the engine under the air filter. It's held together by two screws, the top screw is accessible by removing the housing for the air filter. The bottom screw is on the bottom. There's also a wire that connects the starter to the battery.

Regular Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) unless it is a Manual Transmission then you will need, Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4. I Suggest Synthetic it will last longer.

Its a non interferance engine and they rarely need to be changed

To disable the anti-theft system in a Geo Prizm locate the brain. Once located, disconnect the brain from the wire harness. Doing this will completely deactivate the security system.

30 mpg in city, speaking of conservative driving, and if you drive 55 and no faster on the freeway conservatively it can actually get up to 50 mpg. I have one myself and we've tested the mpg many times.

It's possible that the breather on the tranny is blocked with road/engine sludge, thusly allowing pressure to build within the unit, which forces tranny fluid up the speedo cable. This occurred on a Ford Probe that we had in the family. I attached a new rubber hose to the original breather, and ran it further up into the engine compartment to avoid a repeat of the occurrence. Your best bet would be a GM dealership. If not them, then a Toyota dealer. Just tell the Toyota dealer that it's a Corolla, not a Prizm.

It sounds like your carb choke is stuck. Just remove the air filter and filter housing and spray the choke, linkage, and throttle body with a liberal amount of carb cleaner. This should fix the problem.

Could be a blocked fuel filter, or your fuel pump may have died. It takes 3 things for an engine to run: Air Fuel Spark You need to figure out which the engine is not getting. Most cars can get air so I would look at fuel and spark. If you can get a can of throttle body cleaner and spray it into the throttle body and try to start the car. If it starts and runs for a bit, then the problem is the engine is not getting fuel. There are ways to check for spark but for now try to see if the engine is getting fuel. out of time timing belt

1996 have a plastic key which is located on the bottom of the stering column..the security key is made so you can remove it and take it with you so no one can hot wire your car. i kicked mine with my feet and loosened it but luckily the AAA man in Orlando Florida had a car like mine and showed me where the key is.
