The United States never launched a full-scale invasion of Iran, but American troops have been deployed there in the past. Americans have never sought to conquer Iran (also known for centuries as Persia), but have been sent in pursuit of limited objectives.
Americans were sent to the country in 1942 to protect Lend-Lease shipments of wartime equipment to the Soviet Union and to British possessions in the Middle East. Note that Eagle Claw was less an invasion and more like the bin Laden raid, in that a small number of Special Forces personnel would enter the country in search of one limited objective, and then leave; there was no intent on gaining and holding territory.
