How do I change oil pan gasket on 95 Jeep Cherokee?

Unfortunately, this Jeep requires that you take out the engine mounting bolts and raise the engine a little so that you can slide the pan back and out. It is a much bigger job than the answer below implied.

=====================================

Assuming it is leaking? or else why bother?

Buy new gasket from parts store

drain oil

remove oil pan

scrape off old gasket and clean mating surfaces

put new gasket on pan

align holes with several bolts before tightening down

once all bolts tight and drain plug back in change filter while under vehicle

fill with oil

done

- You don't HAVE to remove the engine mount bolts to remove the oil pan. It may make it slightly easier, or may just be more time consuming. Other than that, the above answer is spot on.

No it will not improve perfomance or the way it runs the jeeps stock thermostat is set to the running temp of the vechile if you lower it your heater will suck and the engine will run cold and burn more gas so no the best would be to replace it with a fail safe thermostat whi'ch may help your vechile out.

Will any overdrive bolt up to torqueflight 727 in 1979 Cherokee?

Not without major hassles. The 727 bolts to a transfer case and that is going to get in the way of any overdrive unit being bolted to the back of the 727. T That being said Gearvendors is the usual supplier of overdrive units for 727's.

What does perform maintenance mean in the information center on a 99 jeep?

It means that there are certain maintenance items that needs to be done at this time. Each time the odometer reaches a set factory mileage, it trips this light notifying you that something needs to be done. Look in your owners manual to see exactly what maintenance you should perform.

ANSWER I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee and wondered the same thing. In my vehicle, it is a user set function. You can set it to go off at various intervals to remind you that something is due. I have it set for 3,000 miles to remind me that the oil change is due. It can also be reset by me. As the last poster stated, see your user's manual.

Where can you get a fuse diagram for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee?

Consult your owners manual, Factory Service Manual, any of the Cherokee owners Forums (CherokeeTalk, JeepForum, NAXJA), or use your Internet Search function.

You can also spend $10.00 on Mitchell on-Demand for your Jeep. It is good for 1 week. Copy everything you need and save for reference, best deal in town or get it for 1 yr for $35.00, that's what I did for mine. They are a sponsor for this site, we used it in electrical shop I was at............good luck, Mike

What would cause a 1988 jeep Cherokee to overheat already replaced radiator?

There are several factors that can cause an engine to overheat, with a plugged radiator being one significant member of the list, but certainly not the only possibility.

1. sticking thermostat. 2. plugged radiator. 3. low coolant level 4. corroded or damaged water pump vanes.

Several possibilities can exist for low coolant level, the water pump, freeze plugs or radiator/heater hoses can leak, or, if the engine has overheated in the past, the head can warp, causing the head gasket to fail resulting in engine combustion pressures being released into the engine cooling jacket. Once that happens, the coolant will be forced out of the cooling circuit and the engine will quickly overheat. If that's the cycle that's going on, you'll never be able to keep coolant in the engine and it will quickly overheat.

That also the rubber hose that go into a metal hose may be blocking the lines because mine rotted from inside the hose and out.

If a clock spring is broken in a Chrysler air bag system can it set off the air bag?

I have a 1997 dodge carivan the air bag light came on and remained on. I took the steering wheel off and found the clockspring was broken all the way through, it stopped my horn, cruise control and the air bag light was on any time the ignition was turned on. If you do the work yourself make sure you disconnect the neg. side of battery and wait 2 min. before working on the air bag part..

No it will not set the air bag off, the airbag computer will not send a signal for deployment unless there is a crash. It is a serious safety issue though and you should get if fixed, the clock spring is fairly cheap ($40-50).

Why is your 1989 jeep Cherokee dying after it gets hot does not show temperature overheating but antifreeze boils out of reservoir?

I had an 89, great vehicle 289,000k. Some one stole it, and destroyed it. Some things that will help:

  • replace the thermostat, and make sure that the copper plug is on the inside of the engine
  • check for sheet metal or foil type insulation pads near the exhaust manifold. Check to see if something down there is getting burned or heated up and try to block the heat
  • look on each side of the radiator fins to see if they are all clear and you have air flow. I kept having over heating problems with my Jeep, and not until I removed the radiator to replace it did I discover that a portion of the radiator that was hidden by the shroud and fan was completely covered in thick dry mud. No air flow.
  • as far as your temp gauge not showing an over heating condition, does it work at all? It should show some increase in temp regardless. If you need to replace your temp sensor, it is a plastic plug with two wires coming out of it located on the intake manifold. It senses the water temp and sends it to the dash.
  • new radiator cap.
  • does the fan turn on? You can test it with a battery, if the fan works might be the fan temp sensor.
  • do you have the right amount of good oil in the engine?
  • water pump bad? Look at the water pump and if you are leaking water out of the weep hole on the bottom, your water pump bearings are bad and you need to replace the water pump. If you have a leak on the out side of the pump from a leaking gasket you might be sucking in air and not moving the coolant.

Hope this helps.

How many quarts of oil does a 2001 Cherokee 4.0 take Is it 5 or 6?

I think it hold 6 quarts, at least the older 4 liter engines do. To make sure! Change the oil & filter. Pour in 5 quarts, start the engine, run for 2 minutes, shut it off, wait 45 minutes, check the level and add accordingly. You now know.
