You have white smoke coming from your exhaust?
White "smoke" in the exhaust usually means there is moisture in the exhaust stream.
If the "smoke" appears while you're driving away shortly after the car is first started on a cold morning it is likely the condensation boiling off the inside of the exhaust pipes (steam). This is normal and goes away as the exhaust warms up. The condensation is also normal; it usually happens after the car is shut off on a cold day and the water vapor in the exhaust gases is allowed to condense as the exhaust system cools down.
If you have white smoke all the time, you may be leaking coolant into the cylinders which could mean a head gasket leak. Usually there is oil residue in the exhaust as well, which would be a tell tale sign of a blown head gasket. Then the white smoke would have a hazy blueish tinge to it. Also, certain chemical engine cleaners and fuel additives can create a white smoke. Have a mechanic check it out if necessary.

The termostat is easy to replace, find the big black hose at the top of the radiator, now follow it back to the engine. where the pipe joins to the engine has 2 or 3 nuts holding it on. undo them and under that is your thermostat. buy a new thermostat and put it in. if you have no money to buy a new one just take it out as the car will run fine with out it unless you live in the snow.

I have a 1989 Mazda 323 with a 1.6 Litre engine, Single overhead cam, two wheel drive and manual transmission adn 300,000 km (200,000 miles) on the odometer. In the city I get about 35 mpg (imperial) or 8 litres/100 km. On the highway I can get up to 48 mpg (imperial) or 5.9 litres/100 km. You shoudl get about the same with yoru 1991. If you have an automatic, figure on about 10% less gas milage. Short trips (under 5 miles) will bring your gas mialge down another 15-20%, so avoid short trips adn combine several trips for errands in one outing. A couple of other ways to improve your milage is to ensure all of your tires are inflated evenly (check when cold, 30-32 PSIG) and add fuel injection cleaner to your gas tank every time you cahnge your oil (every 3,000 miles or 5,000 kms or every 3 months). I assume you have new spark plugs, ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor. Also verify that you have 6 Volts at the coil negative terminal when the igniton switch is in the "Start" position. I just did it. You do NOT need to remove steering wheel.
1. remove the screws that hold the plastic cover around the steering wheel and key tumbler.
2. Remove the top and bottom plastic pieces.
3. Using a "Z" type phillips or an "L" shaped phillips screwdriver, unscrew the single phillips screw at the top of the switch.
If you think that you will strip it, use a long flathead screwdriver and leverage it to the back of the phillips to keep the presser while unscrewing.
The entire process takes less than 10 minutes.

Where can you find the radiator plug on a 1994 Saturn?
On my 1992 Saturn the radiator petcock is above the splash guard on the bottom of the radiator on the side closest to the belt. You may want to drain the radiator via the lower hose. The petcock on my Saturn came apart. The retaining clip came off of the back. I did not force it and according to the Saturn forums this happens. I am now trying to see if it can be repaired or replaced and much farther than I wanted to be from completing a quick water pump change.

Check the spark plug wires for a loose connection or a crack. Sometimes a spark plug wire will work well until internal engine pressures get high, which causes the spark plugs to develop a little extra internal resistance. When that happens the spark can jump through a crack in the wire. Also, check the distributor cap and rotor if they weren't replaced on the tune-up.
AnswerThe distributor cap, rotor, igniton lead set (including the lead to the coil) have all been replaced. The problem doesn't occur all the time when engine is warmed up, never when the engine is cold. Any ideas?ThxMalcolm
AnswerI have solved the problem myself, but for those of you who have experienced a similar issue, you will want to look at replacing the Oxygen sensor. As i ahd repalced the sensor 3 years ago, I didn't think it was the culpurit. It was a Bosch after-market item. My parts guy recommended NTK (made by NGK) O2 sensors for Japanese cars. I did the work this past weekend and the car is back to running normally.CheersMalcolm

How do i replace ignition parts on a 1988 Mazda?
I assume you are referring to tune up parts: distributor cap, rotor, igniton leads and spark plugs. The distributor cap is held on with two Philips head screws, the rotor is held on with one Philips head screw. Spark plugs are removed using a standard 13/16" spark plug socket and rachet. Firing order is 1-3-4-2, the distributor shaft rotates towards the front of the car. The distributor cap has #1 cast into the plastic. Timing is 2 degrees before top dead center with the engine warm, idling in neutral or park at 800 RPM and the vacumm hoses disconnected from the distributor's vacuum capsules and hoses plugged. How do you replace the starter on a 1989 Mazda 323?
Disconnect the battery. The starter is located on the back side of the engine (the side closest to the firewall). Undo the main battery cable from the starter solenoid (held in place with a nut and washer). Disconnect the two smaller leadwires (push-on connector) from the solenoid. There are three bolts holding the starter to the bellhousing and either one or two bolts holding the support bracket from the starter to the engine block. Remove all the bolts and then the starter can be taken out by passing it underneath the intake/injection manifold and taking out the passenger side of the engine compartment (right side if facing forward).
