How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1998 Mazda Protege?

1. Turn off car (cut power to lights) (wait for bulb to cool if necessary) 2. Open hood 3. There is a black rectangular 3 wire cable leading into a rubber ring of the headlight, press firmly on both sides to release the prongs and pull. 4. Remove the circular rubber seal around (there is a pull tab) 5. Look for the wire clip holding the bulb in place. On end has a screw and the other end a metal clip. *** Don't be a jack-ass and unscrew the clip.*** Just unhook the clip by pressing the wire. 6. Remove the bulb.

7. Do everything in reverse w/ a new bulb.

You have a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 and it hesitates upon take off sometimes. Its been in to Mazda many time but they can't figure it out can anyone help?

What you are Experiencing is known as a "Flat-spot". It is the result of a fuel air mixture that is too lean, meaning that it isn't getting enough fuel with the air. Had the same thing in the shop the other day on a different year car. Have Mazda richen the fuel to air ratio and the problem should go away.

-Mr. Mechanic-

AnswerI have seen a few with the same problems.the air flow metre was reading within specs, runs rough at idle and hesitates sometimes. we replaced the air flow metre and it fixed the problem. see if they can use one off another car to test it. im a recent ex Mazda mechanic AnswerI have a 2002 P5, and it occasionally hesitates when beginning acceleration. It hasn't really been a problem, but I wonder if it has to do with the aftermarket injen cold air intake that was on it when I bought it used.

How do you remove the CD player from a 98 Mazda Protege?

I had to remove the glove box to get at the right side through there and pop it out, then just pried my way in the left side - had to use quite a bit of force. That factory CD player was garbage.

BUY A STEREO REMOVER KIT FROM WALMART, ABOUT $5.00. IT'S WELL WORTH IT. TAKE OFF THE SIDE CAPS WITH A FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER. USE THE DESIGNATED TOOL (A "U" SHAPE) TO GO IN THE SMALL SLOTS AND RELEASE THE CLASPS. THEN, THE STEREO/CD PLAYER WILL SLIDE RIGHT OUT.

1998 Mazda Protege and the horn doesn't work All I hear is a clicking noise from under the glovebox How do you repair this?

I had the same problem with my Mazda but solved it very easily!

Your horn is unplugged.

Go under the hood and you might have to remove the lights on the side of the wiper fluid container

youl see a little device with a arm for a mount and a metal dish looking thing bolted in center. THis is your horn

There should be a wiring running to it. if you don't see one find it its dangling somewhere in your hood promise!

Where is the coolant drain plug in a 97 Mazda Protege?

There is usually one on the bottom of the radiator.

Possible AnswerI have gone to the dealer and the chief mechanic said that there is no drain plug on the 1997 Mazda protege. Sounds sketchy to me, but I can't find it either.

***Many (most I think) cars have two drains in the cooling system -- one on the bottom of the radiator and one on the engine block. You normally open both when changing the coolant because the coolant won't drain out of the block very well if you don't. I expect that the dealer and chief mechanic were answering the question "Where is engine block coolant drain plug?" I have just been crawling around under my 2002 Protege which I think has much the same engine as the 1997. Damned if I can find a drain plug on the block. Based on what you were told, I'm going to proceed on the assumption that there isn't one*** vtcodger

Why does your window on your 1999 Mazda protege only go down but not up?

This is a general answer, not specific to your car. The motor must do quite a lot more work in the up direction than down. A motor that is near failing will cause this problem. Particles (metal, glass, dirt) in the gears or chain can also cause the window to go only one way.

Here is something to try: If the window is totally stuck down, gently pull back on the weatherseal, exposing the top of the window glass. Put a small piece of cardboard folded over the top of the window. Now, using a pair of sturdy pliers grab onto the top of the window, using the cardboard to pad the pliers to prevent scratching. Hold tight and pull upward while pressing the "up" button for the window very briefly. Careful not to catch your fingers if the window moves up quickly. This procedure will generally help unstick a window that is firmly stuck down.
