How do you conduct safety inspection of an overhead traveling crane?

First thing to do is a visual check, looking for obvious damage, - anything loose, broken Check the crane status lights, green, red, yellow, green is operational check bridge lights, all working? check floor for any obvious leaks check ladder for damage prior to climbing into cab, when egressing use 3 point contact, use rungs and not siderails, place ladder at the correct angle, ensure no knots in the rope enter cab and sound horn or other warning device, this will warn others the crane is about to be powered up, wait 30-45 seconds before powering up crane. while you are waiting, check a/c fire extinguisher, radio and any other accessories adjust seat and mirrors for comfort and visibility power up crane check hoist, check up first, if the hoist goes down, stop immediately and get crane checked by maintence. In a safe area, away from traffic ,lower hoist and observe cable, check for obviouse damage, kinking, birds nesting, broken strands, lowering should be smooth. raise hoist to upper limit, ensure limit works, lower hoist 4 inches, get a visual reference point then this becomes stopping position, do not rely on the limit switch to stop the hoist on day to day activities. check trolley left and right, should be smooth, if equiped with a drag brake, no more than 18 inches travel before trolley stops. In a safe area, check bridge travel foreward then reverse, smooth no dogtracking or crabbing. check brakes, should stop crane smoothly. check any other attachments. check air and hydraulics if equipped fill out crane log, a record that the up limit switch is working and in good repair must be written in the logbook

CNC Machining Capabilities?

Things to look for are machining, castings and forging ability, lead time reduction, close machine tolerances, standardized procedures and types of materials used.

What is the use of a turbine in refrigeration?

It is used as a compressor. It has the same advantages over a piston compressor as a gas turbine engine has over a piston engine. i.e. no valves, much lower part count and much greater efficiency.

Is pipe round because it provides the least surface area to volume ratio?

More likely because it's easier to manufacture, much easier to put threads on, you don't have to worry about orientation when you put them together, and they have no weak spots created by corners.

My gutter pipes are rectangular because they don't stick out as far from the house as a circular one with the same area. But they are low enough in the pressure they contain that they can be formed from sheet metal with a crimped seam. Making a water supply pipe that way would be impossible.

And it's easy to keep them aligned to the house. Running a rectangular water main under a street would be a major pain.

Will any skeleton key work for an old 1916 door with a keyhole or are each different like modern locks?

I finally have the answer to my own question so I will share what I found: There are 2 universal keys that will work for inside doors only. One usually works better than the other. On outside doors, the lock has to be examined by a locksmith in order to make a special key.

Dodge Dakota truck windshield wiper does not turn on?

1. Determine if the motor is working or not. With the engine off, turn on the wipers and listen for motor running. If the wiper motor is running, the problem may be with the linkage.

2. To check linkage, remove the wiper arms from the shafts (fold arms away from windshield, move out locking tab, then take arm off the splined shaft by rocking or gently prying). Then remove the cowling by taking out 7 Phillips head sheet metal screws. Look at the linkage to see if it might be broken or if the linkage has come off the plastic bushing on the wiper motor. (this is what I discovered today on my 1990 Dakota and now I need to find just the plastic bushing.

3. If the motor is not running, first check the fuse. Replace fuse if it is blown. If not, the motor most likely needs replaced.

How do you stop a slow leak from a pressured toilet tank that drips from the plastic valve on the top?

It depends on the manufacturer of the pressure tank. Call them for an answer. The most common is the Sloan Flushmate system it is used by most toilet manufacturers. Kohler made their own system but it was a lemon and was discontinued they offer a retrofit tank to use the Sloan Flushmate system cost is $125 call Sloan for p/n details it has to be ordered from Kohler and will take about a month to get. Eljer also makes their own. Sloan Flushmate 800-533-3460 Kohler 920-457-4441 Eljer 800-423-5537 Repairs on these toilets can get time consuming, & expensive, replacement may be a better option. My recommendations for replacement toilets are the Toto Drake and the Kohler Cimmeron both of which are fantastic toilets that will be very unlikely to clog. Avoid Am Std Champion as there are some serious quality control issues.

I need new engine in your 92 Honda prelude Is it worth spending 500 more for a 200hp vtec engine rather than the stock?

That depends on what you plan on using the vehicle for. If you drive with a lead foot, it may be worth it. It also depends on the state of the rest of the vehicle. If you need major body work or other serious repairs, it probably isn't worth it. You may have to upgrade the transmission to handle the extra power, maybe not. If you upgrade your HP you might want to upgrade your brakes as well! :)

How do you learn a mechanical machine I mean to ask what a mechanical machine consists of?

I'm guessing here. If you are asking what the parts of a machine (car) are called and what they do. It's hard to ask if the alternater is working if you don't know what an alternater is or what it does. The best way is to find someone to teach you. After that, a repair manual for the given machine and a dictionary for terms you may not be familar with. Neve hesitate to ask someone who knows more than you do for help. Most people are willing to spread their knowledge. You can learn about: * How Reciprocating engine works? * How rotory engine works? * How to transform Rotory to reciprocating and vice versa motion? You have to learn about : * slider-crank chain mechanism. * Turbine Engines * rack - pinion mechanism * fourbar mechanism Another Answer Check howstuffworks.com

What is a frozen bearing?

It is a bearing that has been neglected to the point that is has overheated so much that it is now bonded to the bearing race & axle. Very difficult to remove without damaging the axle. Good luck, getting it off.

What is the minimum design pressure in ASME sec viii?

ASME Section XIII does not define a minimum design pressure. Many vessels are designed for full vacuum according to the requirements of the code. A storage tank (API 650 or API 620) can be used in place of a pressure vessel provided that the gage pressure is not more than 15 pounds per square inch.

What is used to measure temperature?

Temperature is usually measured via expansion/contraction of a liquid (liquid thermometer), differences in expansion/contraction of two metals (bi-metallic strip thermometer), changes in electrical resistance (thermistor or thermocouple) or radiant energy (for example: a pyrometer)

What is difference between von mises and principle stress?

Whenever an elastic body subjected to loads in its 3 dimensions, the stresses will get developed along the principal axis of the body. These are the principal stresses. These stress should not exceed the yield stress of the material. Von Mises (1913) postulated that, even though none of the principal stresses exceeds the yield stress of the material, it is possible for yielding of the same from the combination of stresses. The Von Mises criterion is a formula (refer any textbook which content failure theories for Ductile Materials) for combining these 3 stresses into an equivalent stress, which is then compared to the yield stress of the material.

How do use a multi valve pool filter?

Need more specific info

A multi valve pool filter is a common configuration of valve and filter for a swimming pool system. The piping into and out of the filter is attached to a multivale. A multivalve has has several positions. One type of multi valve has six positions:

backwash, waste, filter, closed, rinse and recirculate.

(These valve positions are used on a DE filter. A sand filter may be different.)

Use the filter setting in the nromal operation of your pool. This setting receives water from the pump and directs it to the dirty side of the filter media and then receives weater from the clean side and directs it to the pool.

Use the Backwash setting to flush the DE from the filter and to a drain.

Use the waste setting to flush water directly from the pump to the drain.

The closed position is, well, closed.

Rinse?

Recirculate?

What are pros cons of acrylic fiberglass cast iron bathtubs?

Cast Iron tubs the finish is stronger in most cases then fiberglass BUT there are new acrylic tubs like Americast that are just as strong (and cost the same) as Cast

Cast Iron will not shift like the plastic tubs do BUT you do have a lot more heat loss as the mass of the cast iron is hard to keep warm.

Acrylic tubs you have to be extra careful what cleaning agents to use as the finish can scratch more easily

How does the strength compare between a steel rod and a steel cable of the same weight?

the rod will be stronger, but will break, the cable will bend under force, but not break. the rod has more tensile and shear strength.

Bell Coleman Cycle it is the air refregeration cycle?

The Bell-Coleman Cycle is also known as the Air-Standard Refrigeration Cycle or Reverse Brayton Cycle. This 4-process refrigeration cycle involves isentropic compression, followed by isobarric heat rejection, then isentropic expansion (usually by a turboexpander), and finally isobarric heat intake.

This cycle is commonly used in jet aircraft, using engine bleed air for compression and venting to the atmosphere. It is also commonly used in commercial air liquification plants.

Where did Alexander build his ships of conquest?

spiropoulos ALEXANDER AND HIS GENERALS DECIDED TO GO ON A SEA VOYAGE EXCURSION. HE WENT TO THE COAST OF (OENOTRIA),PHONECHENIANS. HE ORDERED 120 BOATS BUILT,EACH TO CARRY 1000 FOUSATTA. HE DIVIDED THIS FLEET INTO 4 PARTS,EACH WITH 30 BOATS AND ALL WENT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. ANTIOCHUS,SELEUKUS,AND BYZA WENT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. HIS COURSE TOOK HIM TOWARDS EGYPT, OF COURSE THIS WAS NOT HIS CONQUEST OF KNOWN EGYPT, THAT CAME LATER. THEY ALL AGREED TO MEET AT A PREDETERMINED SPOT IN COPTIS. ALEX. TRAVELED 30 DAYS AND 30 NIGHTS AND REACHED THE MOUTH OF THE GOLDEN RIVER CALLED (XRUEORROAS )GOLDENRIVER.HE BUILT A FORTRESS THERE AND RESTED, AND THEN WENT TO THE PREDETERMINED SPOT TO MEET THE OTHERS. LATER SELEUCUS ARRIVED, AND TOLD ALEXANDER HE HAD GONE TO KILIKIA(CLIAIA),AND BUILT A FORTRESS CALLED SELEUKEIA,NAMED AFTER HIS NAME.AFTER A WHILE 30 OTHER BOATS APPEARED, IT WAS OLD ANTIOCHUS, HE ACCOUNTED HIS ADVENTURES TO ALEXANDER, AND TOLD HIM OF HIS FORTRESS OF ANTIOCHEIA(NICONNDIA), THEY ALL WORRIED OVER BYZA.
THEN AFTER A LONG WAIT,THEY SAW HIS SHIPS APPROACH. HE TOLD ALEXANDER OF HIS FORTRESS BYZANTIUM IN THE NECK OF SCUTARI.

Explain how an acoustic stirling engine works?

Bob told me that the acoustic stirling engines run when you hum to them.

No seriously, it's true since Bob told me it was.

What is a hydrodynamic coupling?

A hydrodynamic coupling is used on a tractor to convert the power of the engine for other purposes. It allows you to operate equipment such as a post hole digger, hay baler, or log splitter from a connection on the tractor.

Who invented the roller ball bearing?

It is not known who specifically invented the roller ball bearing. There are examples of their use by the ancient Egyptians. However, it is thought that they may have been invented before the wheel.

Can you get more distance with a stiff shaft?

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the way you swing. It is widely believed that a slow swinger would get more distance with a softer shaft.

Flex only determines where the clubface is at impact. If you have a fast swing speed and a regular flex shaft, you will put too much load on that shaft and it will release or un-load too soon, so the clubhead will be closed or shut at impact causing you to hook it. A slower swing speed with a stiff shaft causes a slice because you are not able to put enough of a load into that shaft so it will not release fast enough, so when you get back to impact it hasn't released fully meaning the clubhead will be open. Shaft has nothing to do with distance, the ball you play and hitting it square will get you the distance.

Why is the runaway speed of a hydraulic turbine always kept twice its normal speed?

The runaway speed of a hydraulic turbine is the speed at which the turbine coupled to the generator runs at the maximum possible speed due to loss of load and this happens until the shut off valves completely closes the discharge from the penstock.

the runaway speed of the turbine is determined by the turbine designer and is influenced by the maximum discharge of water from the penstock, the combined inertia of the turbine runner and the generator and the flywheel.

this factor can vary from 1.5 up to 3 times the nominal speed of the turbine and is determined by the turbine designer considering all the load parameters.
