What kind of wire do you need for a 100A subpanel?
A #3 copper conductor with an insulation factor of 75 and 90 degrees C is rated at 100 and 105 respectively. Even though the wire is rated at this amperage it can only be loaded to 80% capacity to conform with the electrical code requirements. To calculate if a 100 amp sub panel will be large enough, the connected load that you are going to connect to should be considered. If the total connected load is not over 80 and 84 amps respectively the #3 wire will pass inspection. Also check to see if the sub-panel that you are going to install is rated for 100% or 80% load rated.
A #2 copper conductor with an insulation factor of 75 and 90 degrees C
is rated at 115 and 120 amps respectively. The 80% de-rate still has to be applied. 115 x .8 = 92, 120 x .8 = 96.
A #1 copper conductor with an insulation factor of 75 and 90 degrees C
is rated at 130 and 140 amps respectively. The 80% de-rate still has to be applied. 130 x .8 = 104, 140 x .8 = 112.

Warning
100A is a lot of current. It can easily overheat any bad connection. (I have a power supply that will put out 100A. I've melted screws and ignited pennies with it.) You need to consult code for a project this large. You must consult a wire size table and calculate the correct size cable for the run length. You cannot just stumble through it on your own. A mistake will start a fire.
Call en electrician and get an estimate. Go to the library and read about this, please. Negligence is fatal with electricity.
AnswerIf you have to ask, go with copper. Aluminimum is cheaper, but special precautions must be taken and special wiring devices must be used to be safe. You cannot use aluminimum like you would copper! For copper, you need at least #2 wire for a run under 50ft.
Passengerside Brake line diagram for a 91 mercury topaz?
If you are replacing the brake lines ( metal ) then just use your better judgment. They do not have to follow the original route.
I had that problem on the drivers side... As it turned out, the nylon drive belt inside the track had slipped on the sprocket, thus ripping through several gaps in the belt. It's not really a "BELT" since it is not a closed loop, but open ended, with holes that fit the drive sprocket, and efectively pushes and pulls the seatbelt up and down the track. This belt, track, and drive motor are available as an assembly, and requires some of the interior plastic panels to be removed. A screwdriver and a socket wrench is all that's needed to make the repair. I haven't acctually replaced mine yet, our state law only requires the lap belt, so I'll save the money for now and make the repair when I'm ready to sell the car. Besides, I really hated that dang thing! And the shoulder belt can be un-screwed from the seatbelt carrier, which is attached to the "belt" I mentioned earlier, and retracted right back to the rear floor. Check your state laws to verify your vehicle is still legal with only the lap belt. Keep in mind, if your insurance finds out that you've bypassed it, you may lose the deduction for active restraints.
Why would a new starter on a 1998 Mercury Topaz not seem to be getting any current?
It could be a bad starter relay, faulty wire(s)/switch(s) and/or dirty connections. I would check the starter relay and connections first. If everything else checks out, it just might be the starter itself.
How do you change the headlight switch in a 89 Mercury Topaz?
first, disconnect neg. battery cable. Remove panel underneath the headlight switch. Pull out the rod, reach behind the switch from underneath, and feel around for a little spring button, when you push this in, you can then pull out the rod. Remove the switch, unscrew the lock nut , unplug the power input, and there you go. Replace the same way. When it comes time to insert the rod, just push it in, it will lock by itself. Connect battery, test. Not a big job, just need small hands..........good luck.
There are two levers where the emergency brake on my 1990 merc topaz is any idea what they are for?
Those two levers are to release your seat belt if you are involved in an accident.
How do you disconnect the passenger seat belt on a 1994 Mercury Topaz?
The whole assembley of the passanger seat belt should come out with a star tool after you pop off the plastic covering where the bolt screws into the drive line hump. And the same thing for the seat belt buckle where the seat belt clicks in. Be carful not to crack the plastic seat belt cover that goes over the belt strap of the receving buckle . keep in mind that the plastic is old and sun rotted and will crack or fall apart very easily. / while storing the parts keep then in a cool dry place where there is no sun. So they will not further rott if you decide to put it back in. Try to revise the plastic by coating it with a heavy grade oli whill storing it to keep the plastic from further rotting. perferabley a heavy grade rear end oli. or somthing heavier and just wipe off the oli if you ever decide to put it back in.
the tightening sequenceshould be done in a star pattern. first tighten all bolts finger tight. depending on the type bolt with markings of 6t or 8t i will give you the chart. bolts marked 6t 6mm bolt/nut-5-7 ft. lbs. 7mm " 12-17 ft./lbs. 10mm " 23-34 ft./lbs. 12mm " 41-59 ft./lbs. 14mm " 56-76 ft./lbs. bolts marked 8t 6mm bolt/nut-6-9 ft./lbs. 8mm " 13-20 ft./lbs. 10mm " 27-40 ft./lbs. 12mm " 46-69 ft./lbs. 14mm " 75-101 ft./lbs.
1991 Mercury Topaz wont start has fuel and spark?
Engine 2.3 L. So, theres fuel, and spark. This we confirm? Have the spark plugs been changed, and the gap is set? If not are the plugs good, and the right gap? The other possibilty is the timing. Was the dist. moved? And, for the big one, is there a chance that the timing chain has to be replaced. If a lot of miles, there is a possible chance that the chain has skipped a tooth or two. Was the engine running before? Has anything happened to the engine to cause this problem. There could be other problems also. Start with this. Good luck.
Fan relay fuse problem 91 merc topaz?
Fuses That "Blow" Repeatedly
Your question does not tell us what the problem is, but I suspect it may have to do with repeatedly blowing fuses. This is a common electrical problem. IF that is the problem, then the following should help you understand the challenge and what to do.
Fuses and Circuit Breakers are safety devices designed and installed in electrical circuits TO PROTECT the conductors [wires] from short circuits and overload conditions which can cause extreme overheating that can result in damage to the insulation and the conductors, and worse, the possibility of a FIRE which could destroy the vehicle, house, or other structure.
When a fuse and replacement fuses blow, especially if it happens repeatedly, is an indication of an UNSAFE CONDITION in that circuit, usually a short.
The proper "fix" is for a qualified technician, who knows what he/she is doing, to troubleshoot the circuit, find and identify the defect, and make proper repair [s], BEFORE replacing the fuse again [with the properly sized fuse or circuit breaker]. Some ignorant few will suggest installing a larger fuse or breaker to solve the problem, BUT that will only amplify the problem, not solve it.
Do not follow "bad" advice and install a larger fuse in a misguided attempt to correct the problem. To install a larger fuse would almost guarantee damage to the wiring and an electrical system fire.
How do you replace the water pump on a Mercury Topaz?
I have recently had to change out the water pump on my 93 Topaz and it was an experience. Ford did not make this model like all other water pump applications. Here is the step by step for removal. First let the engine cool down if it has been running. Then drain the fluid from the system. Then disconnect the hose at the top and bottom of the pump. There are three bolts (10 mm) to remove the entire pump located on the back side toward the firewall. The hardest one to spot is the one directly being the pulley. Once you have completed these steps you should be able to remove the pump through the bottom of the engine compartment. After you remove the pump there are 7 smaller bolts that hold the pump together(8 or 9 mm). Once you change your water pump and reseal it, install it just as you had removed it. If you have problems with the bolts tightening down work with them and make sure you have the pump mounted correctly.
Where is the oil drain plug on a 1993 Mercury Topaz?
Hi. It is located at the bottom of the oil pan near the back of the oil pan. It is mounted on an angle. It requires a 5/8" or 16 mm wrench to remove. Hope this helps.
90 topaz mercury to shut off when it gets hot and starts when cool?
90" topaz mercury is getting hot and shut off and the starts when it cool off.? what is the cause of this and how do i fix it?
I think it could be your donut gasket or a small hole in the exhaust pipe.
You may also need to change the oil. If the oil has not been changed for an extended period of time, the dirt and debris that accumulates in your oil will block the passages to the hydrolic lifters causing them to run "dry".
Be caution with the ticking noise, I once got a good, loud ticking noise in myne and it turned out to be a stuck lifter! Not replacing a stuck lifter can blow your engine.

What color of topaz can you get?
Topaz is a gemstone of all colors (Orange, yellow, brown, light blue to deep sky-blue, pink, colorless, white, light purple, greenish-blue, green), and its most valuable color is a golden orange-yellow, called "imperial topaz". Topaz is commonly thought of as a sky-blue gem, but it was not until this century that blue topaz became widespread on the gem market. Natural blue topaz with a deep hue is very uncommon in nature; colorless to light hued stones are heat-treated to achieve the blue color. Likewise, topaz rarely occurs naturally in pink; virtually all pink topaz is heat treated from yellow or brownish material. Some topaz from Russian localities are notorious for fading upon prolonged exposure to light. Stones from these localities are undesirable as gems. One should always inquire about the origin of the topaz before buying it to make sure it will not fade. Topaz of all different colors are used in jewelry. The orange, pink, and blue colors are most often cut for gems, and colorless topaz is sometimes cut with the brilliant cut, resembling diamond. Topaz is sometimes found as enormous flawless crystals, and some gigantic gems and faceted spheres have been formed from them, making unique and exquisite gem pieces. Topaz is rarely cut into cabochons.
VARIETIES
On the gem market, topaz is usually classified by color. Below is a list of the color names designated for gem topaz:
Pink Topaz
Blue Topaz
Brown Topaz
Green Topaz
Other names may be designated to certain types of topaz:
Precious Topaz - used to distinguish topaz from cheaper fakes, such as citrine
Imperial Topaz - lustrous orange-yellow to orange-brown variety of topaz (most valued)
Silver Topaz - colorless topaz
Sherry Topaz - orange-brown topaz
London Blue Topaz - deep blue topaz (the deepest blue form of topaz)
Swiss Blue Topaz - deep blue topaz (not as deep blue as London blue topaz)
Paraiba Topaz - sea-green topaz
False names:
Smoky Topaz is also a false name for Topaz. It is used by unscrupulous dealers to describe Smoky Quartz.
Hyacinth is an orange-yellow to yellow-brown variety of Topaz. Although the name Hyacinth usually is used to describe a gem variety of Zircon of that color, it is occasionally used for Topaz as well (usually in old manuscripts). Pycnite is a columnar variety of Topaz. It may also refer to a yellow-white variety Gold Topaz
Golden Topaz
Madeira Topaz
False Topaz
Brazilian Topaz
Bahia Topaz
Citrine Topaz
Brazilian Topaz - yellow to yellow-brown sapphire
Indian Topaz - yellow to yellow-brown sapphire
King Topaz - yellow to yellow-brown sapphire
Oriental Topaz - yellow to yellow-brown sapphire
Smoky Topaz - unscrupulous name for cut smoky quartz
Star Topaz - yellow star sapphire
There is also Mystic topaz, which is not a natural topaz is it made by adding some chemicals on the base on the colorless topaz to make it look colorful and is often cut in concave style to enhance the luster. Note: Citrine (a yellow-brown variety of Quartz) closely resembles yellow-brown Topaz. Unfortunately, unscrupulous dealers have adapted false name for Citrine so the unaware buyer thinks he is buying the more valuable Topaz. Any "Topaz" labeled with a prefix name (such as Gold Topaz, Madeira Topaz, False Topaz, Brazilian Topaz, Bahia Topaz, and Citrine Topaz) is heat-treated Citrine. However, there are three exceptions:

How do you change the left front wheel bearing on a 1990 Mercury Topaz?
Unless you have access to a 50 Ton press, this is a job best left to professionals. ****SERIOUSLY***** Nevertheless, if your still willing to do it read below:
Ok, I just finished this project and it was a NIGHTMARE. The wheel baring is pressed on to the wheel hub with the steering knuckle in the middle. (simple diagram below) At this point (2009) your ONLY choice is to go to a junk yard that has a ford tempo or a mercury topaz in it and remove the whole wheel baring/steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly. I called dealerships and this whole assemble is obsolete, and no after market part is made for it at any parts store in the country unless you pay for a company to custom make it for you costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
engine/trans<----cv axle--->wheel bearing---->steering knuckle<----wheel hub---->tire
"----->" This symbol to the left means (goes into or fits into)
Now it is not IMPOSSIBLE to get the "wheel baring/steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly" apart HOWEVER, when it was made in the Ford plant, a 100,000 Lb Press was used to do this, so attempting this will only result in HORRIBLE failure.
When you go to the junk yard and find a matching assembly you will have to: 1) Remove the left wheel. 2) Using a small, sharpened punch, raise the indentation in the axle nut that is locking it in place via a groove in the spindle. 3) Remove the axle nut (it's very tight at about 200 ft-lbs). 4) Undo the lower ball joint (control arm) from the hub assembly by removing the pinch bolt and sliding the joint's stud free. 5) Undo the steering arm that attaches to the steering knuckle. 6) Undo the brake caliper and remove the steering knuckle from the strut assembly by removing another pinch bolt and carefully driving it off. 7) Using a brass drift pin, carefully drive the axle spindle out of the hub and the axle will be free. 8) Slide off the brake disk and the wheel baring/steering knuckle/wheel hub assembly will be free from the car. After getting this far, installing it should be a breeze.
I remind you that my grandfather and I have just spent about 8 hours learning how to do this and if you want to fix your wheel baring this is your ONLY option because of how ford designed this front end assembly.
Have a LOT of patience and good luck!
