What is the difference between nuclear energy and weapons?

Nuclear energy is the controlled release of binding energy, used to generate energy, usually in the form of heat to drive a steam turbine which generates electricity. In this mode, KEFF is nominally equal to one, meaning the criticality stays at the same level, meaning that the number of binding energy release events per second does not change, and a very small percentable of the fuel is converted per second.

Nuclear weapons, on the other hand, are the uncontrolledrelease of binding energy, usually in the form of ultra high radiation and heat that destroys everything in the blast radius, and causes massive radioactive fallout. In this mode, KEFF is much, much greater than one, meaning the criticality increases at a very fast rate, in fact at what we call super prompt criticality, meaning the number of binding energy release events quickly consumes the entire fuel.

Another form of nuclear weaponry is the combination of ground up spend nuclear fuel, or some other radioactive element(s), with conventional explosives. In this mode, the bomb doess not "go nuclear", but it still disperses a large amount of radioactivity over a large area, causing injury from radioactive fallout.

If you had a nuclear war who would win?

no one because the nuclear nations would destroy each other

Edit: (My opinion). I do not think that is true; Mainly because I am leaning on Russia winning a Nuclear war due to its far more superior number in nuclear power (11,00-15,000 estimated) than the U.S.A's (8,000-10,000 estimated). Also Russia is too big of a land to destroy and not to forget Russia has the most powerfull Nuclear Warhead: The Tolop-M. Also If Russia does not win. Nations wouldn't destroy each other and end it all. There would ALWAYS be survivors to tell the truth and their is ALWAYS a country that wins, and if there were a Nuclear War. That country would most probably be Russia.

^^^^

This guy is a total ideot.

If there was a nuclear war, EVERYONE would loose. And do some research. The Tsar Bomb is the largest. If there was a nuclear war then russia and the usa would be the mostlikely targets due to their size. And i doubt it would be all vs all.

The USA, UK, France, India Vs North Korea, China, Pakistan and Russia could be an example. Besides, nuclear wars arent going to happen. If you nuke someone you are basically nuking yourself.

What metals reflect radiation from a nuclear bomb?

Other than the light, heat, and UV radiation (which can be reflected by most metals) from a nuclear bomb, nothing can reflect the radiation.

The various forms of nuclear radiation are absorbed not reflected:

  • alpha radiation is completely absorbed by one ordinary sheet of paper, no metal is needed
  • beta radiation can be absorbed by most metals very efficiently
  • gamma radiation is poorly absorbed and can pass through many feet of even very dense metals like lead and uranium
  • neutron radiation is poorly absorbed and can pass through many feet of even very dense metals like lead

What is Bosnia and Herzegovina view for nuclear weapons?

They are a part of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. They want the world to be free of nuclear weapons and also want to be part of making the world a safer place.

"As a State Party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Bosnia and Herzegovina is fully committed to implementing the Treaty and stands ready to contribute to the international efforts to ensure its universality as a long term goal in promotion of security and prevention of proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world."

What does nuke the whales mean?

Nuke the whales is meant to be a sarcastic retort that combines the two popular "hippie" sayings of "save the whales." and "no nukes" Whaling is the term used to define the hunting of whales. They are typically hunted for oil and meat. Nukes are extremely powerful bombs that can ruin you day. Hippies are the long haired, unwashed drug taking youth of the 1960's.

How many nuclear warheads did the US have in Europe in 1967?

In 1967 the Secretary of Defense disclosed that the US had 7,000 nuclear warheads in Europe. Prior to this announcement, the European host nations knew where these warheads were and so did the Soviet Union. The US Congress was the last organization to know this fact. Government secrecy under US President Lyndon B. Johnson was a government priority.

How do you think the United states and other nations will deal with Iran's nuclear weapons program?

The Iran nuclear power program is supposed, possible, but not confirmed.

And finally why some countries have the right to have nuclear weapons and others do not ?

TNP proposed the destruction of all nuclear weapons, in all countries, including United States and Great Britain !!

What is nuke boosting?

nuke boosting needs 2 people 1 with a nuke and 1 not both meet up and the 1 with the nuke kills the other 1 with the nuke off and he keeps doing this till the person with the nuke gets 25 or 24 if hardline on

AnswerSimilar to what was said above, Nuke Boosting is when 2 or more friends join a match together without being on the same team. (It can be tough to do, and is often glitched) Since they are on opposing teams, they find a hidden area or corner where they continue to meet up. One player will allow the other to continually kill him until they receive the Nuke. It is a low form of cheating to win the game, boost your K/D and complete challenges.

You can also boost in free for all. both people meet in a corner with ninja and cold-blooded with a silencer and a tactical insertion. one person kills and the other lays down tactical insertions.

How much does kevlar cost per gram?

A gram of kevlar thread will cost about 50 cents to a dollar. You can normally buy it in spools of thread, that can be used to make vests or hardened clothing.

What is proliferation of nuclear weapons?

Proliferation of nuclear weapons refers to the spread of nuclear weapons amongst different countries. First the U.S. had a nuclear bomb; then the Soviet Union had a nuclear bomb, followed by other countries such as the United Kingdom, France, China, India, and so on.

Why did the soviet premier threaten to bury the US with nuclear bombs?

That was just a scare tactic that Nikita K. used In order to frighten America. He de-stallinized

Stalingrad. And disrupted John Kennedy train of thought. He had already teamed up with Fidel Castro. And John meet his maker. He never remembered leaving Texas. And Lyndon Johnson laughed all the way back to Washington DC, as he flew better than first class back to the white house.

Ziggy H bomb?

Ziggy H. Bomb is the living bomb with exclusive rights to the word "Ziggyboogeydoog" the reason that only Ziggy H. Bomb uses the word is that all others fear it because it causes a nuclear explosion. noone knows why. however "Gleeksnagzip" causes the world to blow up. Oh crap!! BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! oL_o none can stop it

How many feet did the atomic bombs drop?

In very rough figures the B-29s were flying at about 30000 feet of altitude when they dropped the bombs and the bombs exploded at about 1500 feet of altitude.

You can estimate from there.

Where does the US test nuclear weapons?

To insure the quality of their Nuclear stockpile and to test new designs, the US continues underground testing in Nevada. This is done at what is called the Nevada Test Site (formerly the Nevada Proving Ground), and it's located about 65 miles (105 kilometers) northwest of Las Vegas.

Use the link below to go to a post on this facility. There you will find pictures, a history, and details of the operation. Additionally, lots of other links can be found there, too, including ones that will give you information about tours.

Currently the US does no actual nuclear weapons tests at any site. All tests are limited to computer simulations on custom designed very high speed supercomputers using carefully calibrated code based on previously performed nuclear tests and hydronuclear tests. Note: Hydronuclear tests are zero yield subcritical assembly tests that used to be performed by the US to precisely measure the very beginning of fission as well as verify safety of weapon designs.

What is the paradox of the nuclear war?

There is no winner.

Nuclear war has no inherent paradox (that is, it is not inherently self-contradictory). However, large-scale nuclear war has all the characteristics of a Pyrrhic victory - that is, the cost for 'victory' is so high, that the difference between victory and defeat can be seen as negligible.

Or, to quote the WOPR machine from the 1983 movie War Games, "The only winning move is not to play."

What did sadako call the atomic bomb?

well, first off..he called the atomic bomb something important in history and important in real life.i dont really know what she called the atomic bomb..BUT she called cancer the atomic bomb disease..interesting huh?

Is there a nuclear bomb lost underwater in America?

The Tybee Island B-47 crash was an incident on February 5, 1958, in which the United States Air Force lost a (3.8MT yield) Mark 15 hydrogen bomb (serial number 47782) in the waters off Tybee Island near Savannah, Georgia, United States. During a practice exercise, the B-47 bomber carrying the bomb collided in midair with an F-86 fighter plane.

The Goldsboro B-52 crash was an incident on January 24, 1961. A B-52 Stratofortress carrying two (2.5MT yield) Mark 39 hydrogen bombs broke up in mid-air near Goldsboro, North Carolina, United States, dropping its nuclear payload in the process. One bomb descending by parachute landed intact with its parachute entangled in a tree. The second bomb's parachute failed and it plunged into a marshy field at around 700 miles per hour (310 m/s) and disintegrated without detonation of its conventional explosives, a few pieces were later recovered but much remains in the marsh unrecovered.

How did Pakistan get the bomb?

The NPT wasn't that effective when a Group of Pakistani Scientists lead by A. Q Khan managed to prepare one. See the related link.

Can a nuclear weapon explode if a nuclear tipped missile is intercepted in the air by an anti ballistic missile?

Under normal circumstances no. Nukes need a smaller pre-explosion that starts the nuclear reaction, which would not happen if it were intercepted. Its possible that it could be armed so it goes off if intercepted. It should be noted that if intercepted there is still fissionable martial from the missile so if it lands on a populated area it could still be as lethal as if it went off normally.

The missile will not explode by being intercepted - Anti-ballistic and Anti-Missile Interceptors target the fuel at the midsection, which is most likely not going to detonate the Warhead's High-Explosive detonator cap, and might not explode at all (fuel-wise). HOWEVER, the missile will turn into a gravity bomb, and if it lands on the detonator cap or with significant force, it will detonate. This is why technologies such as the Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL) are designed to drop the enemy missile over enemy territory.

It is important to note that gun-activated nuclear weapons which shoot one core of fission material at another, will not detonate in this circumstance unless the detonator cap activates the gun.

What was the square mileage affected by the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan?

The US detonates a uranium bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima, killing more than 140,000 people within months. Many more later die from radiation-related illnesses. The US explodes a plutonium bomb over Nagasaki. An estimated 74,000 people die by the end of 1945. Little can be done to ease the suffering of the victims who survive the blast.
