umm, need more info. I would say it smells hot because it is...

99 olds aurora, 240,000 miles - red security light goes on and I cannot start the car. hold down on two buttons on the key bob for aprox 10 seconds outside of the car. wait 10 minutes , light goes off and I can start the car. This is happening more often than not. How do I disarm the system so it is permanently off???

This is caused because the signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor, or VSS, has been lost. This could be due to the sensor itself failing or a broken or shorted wire that leads to the VSS.

The signal from the VSS tells the computer how fast the car is moving. When the signal is lost the transmission will shift in first gear and the speedometer goes to zero.

The VSS is located on the passenger side of the car and can be accessed by removing the front passenger wheel and fender liner. The VSS is on the top of the transmission right next to the output shaft.

you have to go under the hood, and go into the fuse box on the left corner by headlight if you are facing car. you will have to look at manual and see what fuse to pull

Oldsmobile did not build an Aurora in 2000. Is your car a first generation 1995 to 1999, or is it a second generation 2001 to 2003.

The ignition switch is in the dash to the right of the steering column. You will have to get access to the switch and it is probably best to use the service manual to get all of the correct steps in this process. Note that the switch and the key portion are two separate items. You will be able to replace the switch and reuse the key lock portion on the new switch. This isn't an easy task and could take a half day or more to complete.

Most GM fuel filters are behind the driver, under the frame.

Listed in your owners manual and on the vehicle somewhere. Look on the drivers door post, truck, glove box, console, etc. It is there somewhere.

just above the alternator wheel. there is a square hole on the top side of the tensioner.

open the trunk look at the upper area in the truck u will see two straps, one for each half of the seats

The body control module, on your 1997 Oldsmobile, is located on the rear suspension. The module is mounted on the passenger side of the rear axle.

first of all if it says PREMIUM FUEL ONLY under the fuel gauge its not decoration or maybe they meant only when you can afford it. uh no that means that's what the engine calls for. have you ever heard of High Compression? 10.3:1 is the compression ratio. the engine calls for 91 octane or better. you have to use premium fuel. Premium fuel; fully Synthetic oil EVERY 3000 MILES; New air filter every oil change (only 12 bucks cheap as* NEW ENGINE IS $5000) and change your fuel filter 12 bucks that's it. And NEVER BUY GAS FROM SWIFTY! gas isn't just gas and oil is not just oil, you get what you pay for. save 15 cents a gallon at Swifty instead of Shell 93 and get no detergents or cleaning agents. same with cheap oil.

Walmart sells our batteries. They are going $75 a pop, that's with you turning in the old battery. im not sure what it is without i have always bought the old on in.

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my '97 with the 4.0 V8 and I would guess that the procedure is the same. First I went to the public library, found a repair manual, and photocopied the appropriate sections. After removing the hoses, belt cover, belts, etc. you'll get to the pump. The pump is strictly the impeller and pully wheel. I spent about $50.00 at NAPA for my unit. You will, however, need a special Cadilac/Buick/Olds removal tool for the Northstar engine. GM prices run from $100 to $180.00 on this tool. However, you may find a tool rental shop with the unit, so make a few calls. I ended up purchasing the too from a MATCO Tools distributor for $26.00. It worked and I'll probably never need it again, but $26.00 is much better the $100.00. After replacing the pump, replace everything else per the manual innstructions. The job goes rather quickly when you have the right tool. Hope this helps.

Your switch on the end of the turn signal arm has gone bad ( this is common on these models). It can be costly or difficult to replace

Fuel pump is located in the trunk passenger side, lift carpet, remove steal panel.

The northstar engine were remodified to take regular unleaded.I use thw mid in my 01 aurora.

hold the engine reset button in until it resets

Turn signal flasher is under the dashboard beside the steering column. Flasher unit

for the emergency flashers is on the other side of the steering column.

hey my man i dont know how long this qestion has been up but. You need to check to see if you have spark? to all Pluggs.. If not start with the coil packs they sometimes go... let me know if that has helped...

Up to about 1999, no. Only needed a large C clamp to push the piston back in the cylinger. After 2000 some rear brakes have the the screw type piston which requires you to un-screw the caliper back to the un-used pad position.

2001-2003 it is behind a panel under the glove box.
