Where do you locate the thermostat on a 1988 Pontiac lemans 16 liter?
IT'S IN THE HOUSING BEHIND THE TIMING COVER THAT THE UPPER RAD HOSE CONNECTS TO.
How can you replace the fuel gauge on your 1991 Pontiac lemans le automatic?
The black plastic bezel snaps off around the instrument cluster if you use a flat plastic lever. Harbor Freight sells a set of plastic levers for cheap that do the job well. Down under the steering wheel there are some plastic panels that will need to be removed that hide some screws that allow you to remove the gauge cluster. I would recommend swapping the whole cluster with another from a junk yard, rather than trying to disassemble the cluster. Be careful disconnecting the speedometer cable. You have to slide your hand behind the cluster and pinch the end of the cable close to the back of the cluster and pull it off. The rest of the connectors simply pull off when you pinch them. The typical problem with a bad gauge is a bad voltage regulator on the cluster, which is one of the reason I suggest just using a junk part. It could also be a bad sender in the tank, as well.

Will 6X Pontiac heads that came out on 400 and 455 engines fit a 350 Pontiac engine?
Yes, all tradional Pontiac V8 (287,317,326,347,350,370,389,400,421,428,455) heads will physically bolt to all blocks. The later 265/301 will bolt to older blocks also but the water passages between the head and block are different and there is no available intake manifold. 6X heads came on Pontiac 350-400 from 1975-1979. no 455s were factory equiped with 6X heads. There are two versions of the 6X, one stamped "4" and one stamped "8" the heads stamped 4 have smaller combustion chambers around 94 cc, the one stamped 8 are about 100-101cc. The 6X-8 head would give very low compression (about 7-1) the 6X-4 would be better but is still only about 7.6-1. High valve lifts can cause valve to cylinder wall interference on 350s since the bore is only 3.88".
sounds like an electrical short. go to an auto electric shop for a proper diagnosis.
How is gear ratio related to torque and speed?
OK, horse power is tork in a certain amount time, dont worry about tork, in other words, if you have horse power from 2000 rpm to about 6300 rpm, and your high horse power peak is 6000 rpm you want to match your rear gear ratio at 3.00 would be close to the peak for a top speed of 152 mph, everyone talks about tork now because its politically correct, also the rear gears like 4.11 means your drive shaft turns 4.11 times to the wheels 1 time in automatic 3rd so your top speed and mileage drops, so your car will be very quick but top speed drops but unless you have slicks there is no point in the 4.11 type ratio, because you cant floor it off the line anyway, you will just burn rubber because your too close to the higher point of the power band.

Why would fan by radiator quit turning on Pontiac lemans 16 engine?
There are a few reasons this could happen. One being that the temp sensor is not telling the fan to turn on. Another could be the fan itself is defective.Another could be the fan relay or the wiring to the fan. If someone has recently been under your hood they may have inadvertantly disturbed the connection at the plug where the fan connects. Have the fan itself tested before getting all complictaed. It could be a simple problem.
It definitely sounds like a fuel problem, the first thing I would do is change the fuel filter .
Where is the oil sending unit located on an 1989 Pontiac Lemans?
Look under the car. Right behind the crank pulley is the oil pump. To the left of the pulley the switch should be screwed into the pump. May need a special socket to get it out.
What are the timing settings for a 1989 Pontiac lamans?
10 degrees BTDC.
1. Start the car and get it warm
2. Turn the car off
3. Jumper the ALDL (Diagnostic) terminal at the computer
There is a small plastic cover in the passenger-side footwell. The diagnostic connector is behind this cover. Connect a jumper wire between the left two lower-most spots in the connector. I use a roofing staple for this. This step is essential because it disables the computer from adjusting the ignition advance.
4. Observe the service engine soon light to make sure it is flashing
5. Connect the inductive pickup on the timing light to the coil wire
6. Check the label under the hood for the timing specification. The manuals say 10 degrees BTDC, but there is a TSB that says 8 degrees BTDC. If you live where there are SMOG checks, go with the value on the underside of the hood.
11. Adjust the timing by loosening the distributor hold down screw and rotating the distributor toward or away from you. My recollection is that away from you advances the engine.
The timing marks are a v cut in the crank pulley and a small black plastic pointer that sits to the right and above the crankshaft pulley. It's nigh impossible to see on a car with air conditioning because the AC cars have an extra deep crankshaft pulley. I use a white paint pen to make it reflective.
How do you align a hood on a 71 Pontiac lemans?
To align the hood on a 1971 Pontiac LeMans, first, ensure the hood hinges are properly lubricated and in good condition. Start by loosening the bolts on the hood hinges slightly to allow for adjustment. Close the hood gently and check the gaps between the hood and fenders; adjust the hood's position by shifting it side to side and forward or backward as needed. Once the desired alignment is achieved, tighten the bolts securely while ensuring the hood remains in the correct position.
