How do you change the fuel pump on a 2000 Pontiac Montana?
Having the fuel pump changed at a reputable mechanics shop can run between $550 and $800. The pump I purchsed and installed myself was a Airtex (sp?) and cost me $273 (tax included). Deciding to save $500 I jumped out and took on the adventure.
A few things to check/change before replacing fuel pump - fuel filter (inline under car midway down drivers side); fuse relay (under hood); wire harness connector (under car near fuel filter).
CHANGING FUEL PUMP: 1) Disconnect positive cable from battery under hood; 2) If possible raise van on lift. Floor jack can work also. 3) Disconnect rubber filler hose from tank; 4) Syphon gas if necessary by placing hose into tank; 5) Begin removing three metal starps holding gas tank; 6) As you lower the tank slowly begin disconnecting the two electrical connectors on top of tank AND the two supply lines; 7) Tank can rest on a stack of used tires (if using lift) or on the ground; 8) Unscrew the large washer type nut - may need to use hammer and screwdriver; 9) Remove old fuel pump; 10) Install new fuel pump with new rubber gasket; 11) The new fuel pump may also come with a new wire harness; 12) Will need to cut old plug off and install new one (4 wire colors are the same); 13) Reinstall washer type nut securing compressed fuel pump; 14) Connect two wire connectors AND two supply lines to pump; 15) Partially reinstall one metal strap securing front of tank; 16) Begin working rubber filler hose onto tank; 17) Secure and tighten all three metal straps; 18) Put gas back in if necessary; 19) Reconnect positive cable to battery.
All together this took 2 guys roughly one and a half hours.
What I really discovered though is the 6 wire connector by the fuel pump had been corroding causing a bad connection. I straightened out the pin connectors and rubbed some grease on each one trying to prevent anymore corrosion. Opening the pins also gave me a more secure connection.Where to get captain seats for 2006 Pontiac Montana van second row?
At your local Pontiac dealer or an auto salvage yard. Check Ebay and Craigslist.org.
How do you open the hood on a 2002 Montana when the hood latch cable is broken?
To unlock the hood you must first jack up the front of the van and set it on secure safe stands. You must be careful during this next section as the battery is still connected and the starter positive terminal is live. *** CAUTION ***Big sparks and burns can happen if you short the terminal to ground***. Insulate the starer wiring terminals with rubber tape. Get underneath the van and remove the starete dust cover attached with one bolt. Remove the two starter bolts and carefully lower it down and support it. Be extra careful of the terminal studs and shorting. You must reach up (it's a long way) to the hood latch and approximately one inch off centre on the drivers side is the latch bar where the cable terminates. Move this bar to the drivers side and the hood will release. Open the hood and remove the ground from the battery. It is now safe to reinstall the the starter without shorting anything out. Put starter in place thread bolts in by hand first then tighten to spec. replace dust cover. You're done
Drivers side automatic window sticks when closing on 2001 Pontiac Montana?
My power window on the drives side of my 2000 Pontiac Montana would stop about half closed. It would title forward. I would have too grap the top off the glass and pull it toward the back of the window frame.
This is a really easy fix: remove the door panel and, with the window all the way up - pull the front window track toward you and away from the side of the door. Bend it a little and test to see if this was enough to get the window to power up and down smoothly. If not bend it some more - as a technician would say "adjust it". As I could see when my window would go up it would come out of the track. Bending it, does the trick.
The rubber piece off the rear window of the same driverside, had fallen off. Found that in the bottom of the dorr. Just re-glued it and now my windoe is working fine.
I think what happens is in the winter these windows freeze shut. When we try to open them over and over until they become free, the window track troques and is then out of alignment.
Where is the throttle position sensor on 1999 Pontiac Montana?
The throttle position sensor is located on the throttle body at the end of the throttle shaft.
Why does the temperature gauge red line at idle when the engine is not overheated?
If it is not overheating then the temp gage or the sending unit are bad.

A boot remover plier helped alot on that center plug...

Most likely the problem is the control switch assembly. Just pop it out carefully using a flat screwdriver and replace. I recommend a used part from an auto recycler.
How do you program a new pk3 key without the original?
Hi, from all I've read about it on the net, (and in my 2003 Olds Silhouette owner's manual) you cannot program the PK3 key yourself UNLESS you have at least one already programmed PK3 (master) key. You must go to your dealer if you don't have at least one programmed (original) PK3 key,..they have the special equipment to do it.
If it is the same problem I had, it is in the transmission and requires the pulling of the transmission. This is a comman problem with some Montanas. It might be the pressure control solenoid located inside the valve body of the transmission. Yes this is probly your answer. These cars have this problem alot. I work for Gm and I know first hand. I was having the exact same problem two weeks ago. I replaced the pressure control soleniod and the transmission now shifts as smooth as it did brand new.
Why does abs light come on while driving?
On my 2000 Montana the ABS light came on when the drivers side rear wheel hub sensor for ABS malfunctioned. If this is the problem, you have to change the whole wheel hub because it is made as one unit. you have a bad connection, probably @ a wheel abs wiring, a visual inspection may see which one or service shop scope test
I have the same sound in my 2003, Pontiac Grand AM. I am unable to located were it is coming from?
Can 22'' rims fit on a 94 cadillac deville?
Yes...It is possible. depending on your tire size. I have 22's on my 97 deville and have 24's on dodge charger with no modifications... the tires are rubber bands though, very bumpy ride, 20's look good and have a smoother ride, but bigger is better, ha Most online sites will not allow you to choose a wheel larger than 20 inches for this type of car, because they r not sure on every car dimension. but if you call a local shop they should tell u.
Check the turn signal switch. Don't touch the air bag if you aren't trained. It's a very dangerous process. That's a job for the dealer or a qualified technician.
i own 2002 you probably need to replace the circuit board that the bulbs plug into, i got mine at advance auto $38.00. they give 1 year replacement on their parts with reciepts. this solved my problem.
thanks
Can a dealer program a used bcm?
According to my buddy who is a ase certified mechanic yes they can, but most of the time they will tell you that they cannot due to the fact they would rather make the markup on a new module and the installation, hope this answers your question.
Does the 2005 Pontiac Montana have a full size spare tire?
Yes, it's mounted underneath rear of vehicle.
How do I change an alternator on a 1998 Pontiac Montana?
You need to make space for the alternator to be detached and removed by rotating the engine forward, dropping the subframe and removing the power steering lines, the fuel pressure connection. This is also after disconnecting the Neg batt cable, the belt, the manifold cover, and removing part of the windshield wiper assembly.
Rotate the engine by attaching and using a ratchet type tiedown strap to pull the engine forward after partially removing the brackets that secure the engine were it is. These brackets are right there attached to the radiator support frame.
You also drop the sub frame for the same reason (ie. to make more room).
You use a floor jack under the sub frame, and drop the frame after you have removed the front bolts.
I'm working with the assumption that you know you have to do all the other things that you need to do if it was easy to get at.
You have a short to ground in that circuit. Trace the wires and you'll find that it is rubbed bare against something metal. Probably close to the tank. If that's not the case, you have a bad pump.
My Venture had this, and it was not a short. There is a connector behind the drivers seat that goes through the floor. Take the connector apart, you might find the connections are rotted, as I did. I went to the scrapyard, got a decent one for $10. I had to cut all the wires and connect up the new connector. Once that was done, I was good to go. Good luck
