you have to find your belt tenstioner they are all different but they are fairly simple to adjust loosen too remove belt it should only have one

On a 1993 240 Volvo the power steering pump and reservoir are a single unit and it is located above the a/c compressor. Physically it looks like a small black box with a black cap on top. The cap itself has a small dipstick to measure the oil level inside the unit. The unit will have two metal hoses coming out of it.

There might be two wires, either spade connectors or Phillips machine screw (for lugs), wiring order probably won't matter because in it's heart it is a switch driven by fluid pressure. Usually it is a 1/4" screw thread that is removed counter-clockwise with perhaps a 1/2" open end wrench. Because of the dependence on normally open or normally closed contacts inside, coupled with the fluid pressure specification, I would remove the old switch and take it to the store for them to match. at this point, the ohmmeter is your friend. If you get it wrong, the idiot light will work backwards and blind you at night as it did on my 454 Chevy, don't bother swapping wires, you will have the wrong switch.

Hi, If you have the 3.0 v6 engine, it's pretty easy. The power steering belt is actually the serpentine belt, the large belt with the grooves. Everything runs off this except for the air conditioner which has it's on v-belt. You will need to remove this belt first because it's in fron of the serpentine belt. If you look under the top coolant hose or under the distributor cap, there is a plastic cover. The cover has the diagram printed on it. If it is faded or unable to read, just take a pencil and paper and draw all pully's and the way the belt is routed. There is a belt tensioner pulley which you will have to loosen before the belt can be removed. This requires a special tool or sometimes you can get away with a tire iron or something narrow but rigid enough to loosen the tensioner. Slip the belt off and then start from the bottom with the new one and just work your way around all the pully's. It takes some patience but pretty easy to do.

There is a special puller for removing the pulley. You can find it at your local parts store. Most have it as a loaner tool free of charge.

there is an adjustment tab or hook under neath and you just about have to lay flat on your back pull up the tension and have someone else tighten the bolts from above.

Punto electric power steering is very effective . I would say its too effective you can steer with one finger. Without PS you will have to put in a lot of effort, especially when parking. With the PS option you should have abutton on the dash somewhere which says 'City' This when pressed makes the steering dangerously light Hope this helps Normally a Punto of that age wont have "City" mode however i cant be certain, your steering will ALWAYS feel heavier when your near enough stopped or moving slowly. It is like this is every car. If a Red steering wheel is displayed on your dashboard then this means the "city" option will not work.

A v-notch is a machined passage in which hydraulic fluid can flow, usually seen in the OD of shaft assemblies.

on the rear of the engine, sometimes these dont have power steering ********** Power steering pump It is on the top of the engine - passenger side of engine near the front It is about the size of your fist and has 2 hoses going into it and it has a pulley that is on your top engine belt. Cost new is $500 or more, so a rebuilt one would be a better buy. Once they start to go, the belts will squeal a bit when you make tight parking turns.

Just regular power steering fluid. NO automatic transmission fluid.

The power steering stays where it is at. There is only 1 bracket that won't hook up and that is the one that bolts to the factory exhaust manifold. You will have to modify that bracket are make a bracket that will hold the power steering pump and keep it from moving.

It is bolted on from the inside of the door.

Pulley is pressed onto pump, you need a puller to remove.

Yes it's safe to drive but it will be very difficult to steer. Only drive it to a place to replace it or home if doing it yourself.

They are relatively easy to replace. If you can do a brake job you can replace a pump.
