How do you know the wheel barring are bad?

A grinding or abnormal noise at the wheel is a good sign the bearing is bad. Unload the bearing by moving the vehicle left or right while moving. If the noise comes and goes when doing this, the bearing is bad. The only positive way to verify this is to remove the bearing and look at it. Pitting, scouring, and any other signs of wear indicate the bearing needs replacing. Be sure and replace the race if it is not perfect.

What trans is in 2006 Toyota solara?

There are two transmissions available depending on Solara model. With the V-6 engine all come with the 5-Speed Sequential Automatic Transmission w/ECT-i. It's a so-called "sport shift" transmission that (kind of ) allows you to shift for yourself or leave it in Drive like most auto transmissions.

In the sport-shift mode you move the shift lever back or forward to down or upshift. You can also leave it in a specific gear (like third or fourth) for driving around town and the transmission will shift like a normal auto trans until it gets to that gear then won't go any further. Here's the 'sort of' part. The transmission won't let the driver screw up. Try to downshift at too high a speed for a chosen gear and all you get is a 'beep' that's saying "not now stupid." If you fail to upshift to the next gear and the engine is nearing redline the shift will be made for you whether you move the lever or not.

The other transmission is a standard five-speed manual. It's only available on the SE Coupe and SE Sport Coupe with 4 cylinder engine.

BTW, if you have an '06 Solara but the original sales brochure is missing you can download one free from Toyota if you follow "related link" at the bottom of the page.

Cheers

I try not to tread on another persons answer, and the information in this one is excellent. I just wanted to add that I have listed on several sites that for the 06 Solara there are 3 different possibilities. The actual models are as follows.

SOLARA04-064 SP FWDV6 3.3LA541ESOLARA04-085 SP FWDV6 3.3LU151ESOLARA06-085 SP FWDL4 2.4LU250E

It makes a difference if you are trying to buy repair parts. If you open your driverside door and look at the information sticker you will find one of these numbers. It might be off by itself on the right side but it should be there. If its missing then you might be able to do a VIN number check. Jonathn1

How do you work on a rear window of 1990 Toyota 4 runner when the motor stopped with window up?

The best way, is to go inside, remove the tailgate's interior trim and moulding. After removing the plastic sheeting, you can then access the regulator (the scissor looking part with the motor). Remove the bolts that hold the regulator. Now very carefully without bending in or out, because you could break the back-light (rear glass), lower the whole assembly down into the tailgate. You may have to jiggle it up and down slightly. When the glass has cleared the frame, pull on the cables that activate the latches. With the help of an assistant on the outside lower the tailgate. Now you can work on the problem with ease. Inspect the regulator, wiring etc. for wear and tear as well as rust.

Good luck!

What does knock sensor do on a 1989 Toyota 4 runner v 6?

When engine starts to ping there can be damage internally in the engine. The knock sensor determines that the engine is pinging internally, due to certain vibrations it picks up. It relays this information to the onboard computer. The computer then changes the fuel timing to the injectors, sometimes cutting it in half, so the damage is slowed and giving you time to repair the problem. That is a simplified version af a process.

What you feel is a lack of power when you step on the gas. Some loss of gas mileage depending on your load.

How can you smooth out the Idle on a 1990 Toyota 4 runner 3.1?

There can be any number of things that cause the problem. Plugs fouled, plug wires bad, Distributor worn or cracked, timing off, air filter clogged or air system problems. Bad fuel injectors or a clogged fuel filter. Vacuum lines off or cracked. Something else. Check the air handler tube system from the filter to the intake manifold. On the underside of mine a small hole had burned through from the exhaust.Idle was off and mileage bad. Its not just a simple, Do This, and its fixed. Its a whole package of things to try. Some can be seen on an analyzer at a shop but most are just down to basics testing and replacing of bad or dirty parts.
