What I would suggest is getting graphite oil.Put it on the key,then unlock and lock the doors.You can also use stuff like WD-40,Liquid Wrench,or Ballistol.

(IMPROVE) Graphite can be EVIL for locks because some folks put to much in. Don't use petrolium products like WD-40 and such as a lube as it dries to a sticky substance and attracts/holds on to dust and dirt. It works well to get a lock turning though. Eventually the springs might get clogged. Use a teflon or silicone base product or something like Tri-flow with PTFE.

Usually a thrown rod is caused from a worn rod bearing that allows the rod to start knocking and ultimately it ends up being beaten apart by the normal operation. Rod and main bearings typically wear because of poor engine maintenance. Oil and filters must be changed regularly and according to the approved schedule. Only high quality oil should be used, that would be oils that contain the SAE certifications on the label. Typically, any of the major motor oils, but most shops will generally recommend the Pennsylvania oils or synthetics.

It is on because the computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. Take it to a trusted mechanic for a scan and diagnostic of the problem.

You might be able to get to it from under the hood on the passenger side up by the cowl. I know some are located there but I'm not sure about the ford pickups.

The check engine light simply tells you that the computer is detecting an error condition involving one of its sensors. It does not always mean the sensor is bad, it can also reveal a malfunction in the system being monitored. The 1999 Tacoma uses the OBD II codes, so the only way to get the error code is with an appropriate scanner. Many auto parts stores have one that you can use. This will direct you to the system which should be investigated.

If you are facing the vechile with the hood up with your knees at the grill look at the engin where your knees would connect if you could walk forward. it is to the left of the exhaust just before the transmission bell housing The valve is indeed at knee level slightly just in front where the transmission bell conects to the engine. Disconect both ends of the hose so you can turn it upwards to remove the PCV valve or you could brake the elbow of the hose.

As far as I know there is a filter on the grille inside the box where the air con blower fan is located, on the passenger seat side, the whole unit is below the dash. If you are not familiar with this unit then you probably need a diagram, or take your time to do this slowly. The filter may be washed in mild soap water.

I have a year 2000 Toyota Rav4, petrol engine. The engine size shown on the tech sheet is 4 cylinder 1998 cubic centimetres. There was also an 1800 cubic centimetre engine available, and although mine is a Spanish vehicle, i believe the engine sizes were the same everywhere.
