If a volunteer wants to do something, they will have to be checked out. Things that might be checked would be things like if they have a criminal record, if the qualifications they claim to have are genuine, if it is safe for them to work with certain kinds of people, if their health is suitable for the tasks they may have to undertake etc. All of this is known as volunteer screening.

What is a Veteran

if someone should ask

a person who serves now

or deep thru the past

through two World Wars

Korea Vietnam

Cold War Veterans

and those in the gulf

Iraq and Afghanistan

and those who served here

or posts, ports and bases

or not very near

they served our country

and they gave so much

to help them now

its up to us

Chorus

Vets Helping Vets

are people who care

about veterans issues

and how Veterans fare

not for any money,

fortune or fame

but freedom for us

and all that they gave

Men and Women

all across this land

offering a Veteran

a helping hand

most of us

a time of our own

so we know what troubles

Vets face at home

independent people

to Veterans we serve

it ain't too much

Its what they deserve

Vets Helping Vets

are people who care

about Veterans issues

and how Veterans fare

not for any money,

fortune or fame

but Freedom for us

and all that they gave

What are the advantages and disadvantages of alternative service delivery?

There are advantages and disadvantages of alternative service delivery.

The advantages to using alternative service delivery is that it is generally more effective and efficient in it's processes. Private companies seek to make profits where as Government agencies seek to deliver a service with a set budget. They have very different intentions and time spans for delivering these services.

In Canada there are certainly disadvantages to using private contractors. It essentially undermines or undervalues the work of the public service. This can create a problem especially in Canadians Parliamentary Democracy. The current government known as the 'government of the day' must find balance between alternative service delivery and public service delivery.

I hope this helped somewhat.

What sort of things can a teenager do at a veterinary hospital or clinic if they volunteer?

This will depend upon the age of the teenager - a 13 year old isn't going to be doing much of anything except watching, while an 18 year old may be allowed to handle boarded animals on his/her own.

Most vet clinics don't take volunteers - they will hire people for part-time positions such as kennel assistant, janitor or other non-medical positions. These individuals typically do menial-type work: talking dogs for a walk, cleaning cages and litter boxes, feeding and watering the animals in house, cleaning exam rooms between clients, restocking supplies, cleaning the rest of the clinic such as mopping and dusting, etc. Over time, a mature individual with a good work ethic will be taught the basics of handling animals and medical procedures and may work up to being a vet assistant.
