1995 850 Volvo Where is the obd2 connector?
The 1995 850 has a diagnostic unit in front of the ECU case at the right front of the car. There is a single wire there that can be plugged into the number of the unit your are trying to check. There is also a LED that will light when you access the codes. Say you are resetting the service lamp. You put the wire in the number for hole and press the button on the diagnostic unit 4 times at 1 second intervals and the LED will light each of the 4 times. When the light comes on after the 4th press you press the button 1 time again. When the light comes on you press the button 5 times. When the light comes back on you press the button one more time. Then the light should start flashing rapidly by itself indicating the proper sequence has been entered. Basically the code breaks down into 4151. There are a number of sites on the internet about the use of the OBD1 unit. I have worked for a Volvo dealer for more than 30 years so thigns like this come easy to me. HI, IN 1995 MOST CARS WERE NOT OBD11. SOME CARS HAD OBD1 SYSTEMS. OTHERS WERE STILL AT THE MERCY OF THEIR MANUFACTURER AND HAD SPECIALIZED DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPTMENT FOR ONLY THERE CARS. TRY CALLING YOUR LOCAL SMOG STATION AND ASK THEM WHAT YOU HAVE. ALL CARS SOLD IN THE US AS OF THE 9TH MONTH OF 1995 AS NEW CARS WERE REGISTERED AS 1996 VEHICLES AND WERE REQUIRED TO BE OBD11 COMPLIANT. GOOD LUCK, forbybenz
Where is the MAP sensor located on a 1999 Miata?
1999-2005 Mazda Miatas do not really run MAP sensors like Hondas, they use a Mass Air Flow Sensor, the black, tubular piece on top of the air box. Miatas do have a boost sensor, and that is located on the intake manifold, half way down on on the lower section.

Volvo 1994 Turbo 850 hesitates when trying to accelerating?
Check the spark plug cables and spark plugs themselves. I had the same problem about 3 months ago, and it was a bad plug cable and a bad plug as well.
It may be rust or just that the engine is old
In response that the car wont start due to it being old: I have worked on Volvos many years and own three of them now, 2 are 850 s and being old doesn't keep mine from starting. When a car won't start think fuel, fire and air. All 3 are needed for the car to start. See if the engine is firing if not could be many things but on 850s the coil is the first thing that comes to mind. If you are getting fire (the spark plugs are firing) then check the fuel. If no fuel then can be filter or fuel pump bad. Hope this helps and good luck.
What would cause smoke to come off the oil dipstick on a Volvo 850?
Blow by yes it is , however the cause which is what you require is due to a blockage in the crankcase ventilation system. The Volvo 850 has a reservoir located on the block below the inlet manifold, several pipes come of it and lead to the air intake hose at the throttle housing, usually this system gets blocked and when this happens the crankase is unable to vent through the correct system and therefore appears as pressure/smoke coming from the dipstick tube or the oil filler cap, oil often leaks fron here too when its blocked.
You need top check all pipes for cleanliness and ability to vent ptressure, failing that a kit is available on eBay to completely service the the PCV system. hope this answers your question and opoints you inthe right direction
Does the 1995 Volvo 850 have a horn relay if so where is it?
The horn relay is the same as the wiper relay, it's located under the fusebox under the hood next to the driver side hinge. the fuse box comes out & there's another box attached to the bottom. it has a bunch of relays, the horn/wiper relay is in the top row, 3rd from the left (or 2nd from the right). if you're having trouble w/ the horn, and the intermittent wiper still works, it's probably the horn contacts in the steering wheel.
Why is check engine light on in your Volvo?
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area. auto zone does not have the obd2 scanner to check this ar out 1997 850 Volvo
How do you replace the thermostat located on a Volvo 240DL?
HINT: PRINT THIS PAGE AND TAKE OUT TO CAR! Simplest way to do it is: Fisrt drain all the coolant by undoing bottom hose if it's old. If it's nearly 12 mths or more it's old! If coolant is fresh you are going to lose some by just going to the next step. Undo the two nuts holding the thermostat cover on, remove cover and engine lifting eye. Remove thermostat from inside the opening.(Observing which way is UP) Replace thermostat AND the sealing ring with NEW parts (especially the seal). Refit nuts, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! Refill correct Coolant mix (50% Ethylene Glycol)through the reservoir. Start engine with reservoir cap OFF,top up with coolant as level drops, but DO NOT overfill!.... run until Temp guage is at normal and NO air bubbles are visible, then replace cap. Check for any leaks under pressure when hot and recheck for correct Coolant level. Recheck levels before and after next drive. Then it should remain constant.
Where is the windshield washer motor in a Volvo 850 1993?
I hope this answer will help . I have a 1995 Volvo 850 turbo , and the windshild wiper washer and reservoir are located on the left side of the engine near the battery . You should see the reservoir under the left side of the battery , with the appropriate hoses going to the sprayer under the windshield . You could also look for the small hose that sprays the windshield under the hood , and trace back to where it begins , in my case , on the left side of the battery.Good luck to you .
How do you adjust the parking brake on a Volvo 850?
there are 2 adjustments a cable adjustment and an actual brake shoe adjustment You should only need to adjust the cable under normal circumstances Lift up your center console lid, on the bottom you will find an access panel that can be removed with a small flat-heat screw driver, there you will see kind of a large silver round bolt, it is a large torx bit, i forget the size, turn it clockwise until your parking brake has about 4 to 5 clicks.
1993 Volvo 850 rear brakes vibrate?
Volvos usually have a quite hefty brake bias favoring the front. While this is good in terms of stability and predictable performance under braking it does leave the rear brakes prone to rusting, particularly the rotors. My first suggestion would be to have the brake rotors checked for rust or surface evenness, and either have them replaced or resurfaced. While you're at it, make sure there's enough material left on the brake pads and that the caliper is moving freely. A once over with a wire brush and a little bit of lube won't hurt it either.

Where is the fuel pump fuse for a 1990 Volvo 240?
Fuel pump fuse is on the main fuse panel behind the front rubbish tray (directly in front of the gear lever in European cars). If you look at the bottom of the flip out door with it closed, you will see a push up lever, push it up and pull towards you at the same time and it will pop out, behind it is the main fuse board and relay board. On the bin as it comes out, there will be a white number coded sticker with the numbers relating to the fuse positions, and it tells you what runs off which fuse.
Hope that helps.
Incidentally the main fuel pump relay is second back on the left hand side of the relay board - if you search fuel pump relay under google images you will pick up a couple of useful pointers. Good luck.

This happened to my 95 GLT after it had been sitting for a couple months. It had the Ebrake engaged as it sat but when I started it up and dropped the lever the rear driver was still locked, I drove it for a block with no luck then I tried reverse and it popped right out.
