My backup lights stopped working and I had my independent garage mechanic check it out while working on another problem and he told me the switch is internal,inside the transmission housing. I didn't pursue it futher. I'm not about to have them tear into the transmission just to replace a simple switch. Another example of Chrysler's wonderful engineering.

It means the same as on any other car on the planet. Nothing wrong with your engine (probably) the light is all about your exhaust emissions system. Amazingly enough, the most common reason for that light coming on is that you did not tighten your gas cap enough clicks when you last filled up. Sometimes when you next fill up and tighten the cap properly it will clear the light because the tank is pressurized again. SOmetimes the light needs to be reset. AutoZone will "read" you computer and confirm what the light means if you still have trouble with it. Unless your car is driven at 20mph everywhere, your catalytic convertor is probably ok Phil

On a 99 there is a cover located on the left side of the trunk. Pull out the 3 ince plastic plug and turn the "T" handle valve CCW.

it should be found on the thermostat cover it is a brass sensor with wires running out of it but when you take it off be carefull or it will break the cover and you will be in a mess of trouble

If the guage is not working check the passenger side of the f-150 toward the transmition under the exhalst manafold there is a wire that looks just like the oil pressure senser wire that goes onto a temp switch that also could be bad or the wire with a small 90 degree boot on it could have came off.

You need to determine whether your problem is a "no crank" problem, or a "no start" problem. To determine if it is a "no crank" problem, you will need to make two jumper wires. The first jumper wire should be about 6"-8" long, clips on either end, about 18g wire. disconnect smaller gage wire wire on the starter solenoid and jumper it with your jumper wire. Turn the ignition key on and then using another heavy gage (about 10 gage) wire, go directly from the positive terminal of the battery to the terminal on the starter where the battery wire connects. The engine should crank over. If it does not, replace the starter. If it does crank over, then you don't have a "no crank" problem, you have a "no start" problem, in which case this may be an issue with the alarm system. I goit lucky in that my problem was the starter, and not the alarm system. I performed the trouble shooting that I described above to determine that it was a bad starter. I replaced the starter, and all is well!

i have an 03 so im assuming that its the same... but remove your driver front tire and look above your cv boot on the transmission it should have a blue color connector.

Your front, left or right axle needs to be replaced.

You have to have the code. Check with dealer for that. You'll need the serial number to give them. It is generally a 4 number code. You use the "1" button on the radio to change the first number and "2" for the next number and so on and so forth. Once you have finished entering the code hold down the "skip >" button on the right of the radio for two seconds. There will be a beep and it will go back to the radio.

Next to the ash tray there is a black slide off plate that reveals the OBD I plug. {1996 and newer can be read with an OBD II reader (read for free at Advance auto or Auto Zone)} Once you reveal this plug on the 1995, you can plug in a single jumper wire (or even a paper clip) in the #4 and #15 pin hole. There are two rows of pin holes, count from the upper left to the #4, then on to #15 (which will be the second to last pin hole). Turn the ignition switch on (motor not running), insert the jumper wire for about 3 to 5 seconds, then remove the wire. The ENGINE LIGHT will flash a hold, then the code, which will go something like this, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, flash, flash. Then it will repeat the codes if you just sit there and observe it. The code in my example would be a 2214 code.
