How do you change a battery?

Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery, make sure you take off the positive one before the negative one. Then disconnect the negative cable. Remove the clamps holding the battery down. Pull the battery out. Put the new one in. Put the battery clamps back on. (make sure you clean the battery connections. make sure there is no corrosion) Connect the negative cable first, tighten it, then connect the positive cable and tighten it. You are done.

disconnect the positive and negative connections ( only 2 connections ) remove battery. replace with new then connect the negative and positive connections to the correct terminals.

There is a plastic cover over your battery. Remove the positive cable, then the negative cable (if its stock, then it uses an 8mm wrench). Then remove the plastic cover. On the side of the battery closest to the middle of the truck, there is a plastic "chunk" held down by an 8mm bolt. Use an 8mm socket with about a 10" extension to remove this. Take out the battery and replace using the reverse procedure. It should be replaced with a 65 series battery in your expedition.

Note - black is negative. red is positive

Where do you find the wiper wash relay on a 306 Peugeot?

Peugeot 306 Mk 1

The rear wiper relay is mounted on the motor support bracket.

The front wiper relay is hidden behind the fuse box in the drivers footwell. This is a nightmare job so check everything else first, motor etc. To remove the relay , disconnect the battery then you will need to partly remove the fuse box by pulling out the red tag on the left of the box and ease it forward taking care not pull any wires out of the fuse connectors. Ease the fuse box towards you and twist it gently anticlockwise so that you can see behind it. You will see a blue relay tucked to the left of the jumble of wires. If you pull the carpet flap above the accelerator pedal down, you will be able to insert one finger below the relay holder. As it almost impossible to remove the relay from where it is positioned, you can make the job easier by releasing the relay holder from the body fixing by placing a flat bladed screwdriver between the holder and the plastic fixing clip. Twist the screwdriver and spring the holder away. Using your one finger from underneath and another (or screwdriver) from the fuse box access you should be able to manoeuvre it towards you, relay first and then remove it. On replacement, simply nest it back where it was originally and don't bother with clipping it back. You won't be able to and in any case, it is not going anywhere. Replace the fuse box and remove all those unpleasant thoughts about Peugeot designers from your mind as you will just have just saved yourself a lot of cash.

The relay contains a timer chip type U642B which is a bi-polar integrated circuit designed for the wiper and a web search for the chip should reveal the circuit.

FULL SPEED WIPERS ONLY?

A recent fault I came across was that I only had full speed and no park or mid speed. The problem was not the relay but the white connector into the motor body had fractured inside the nylon insulator block on the motor housing. The answer was to remove the broken connector, drill a hole through the nylon connector path to allow the brass tag to go in further and then solder the break. You can test the motor by applying 12v to the red wire (full speed) and then to the white wire (mid speed). Black is ground. The other wires go to the sweeper switch for wiper parking.

I believe the following relates to a later model.

Look at all the black relay boxes, the wash wipe has 6 connectors/wires and looking carefully you will see on the relay at each connector the numbers 2,1,4,6,8,5 in that order - this is for pre April 1997 Post April 97 a blue box, 6 connectors numbered 2,5,8,6,1,4

Where can you find a wiring diagram for fitting a CD player into a 2000 VW Polo?

Firstly, you do not need to "wire" you stereo in as such as, unless your car has had its audio connectors chopped off, you can buy the adaptors from all good car audio retailers.

I doubt you will find a definite wiring diagram online, but i can give you some advice.

You should have at least 7 wires (Dependent on the amount of speakers you have) as below:

  • Permanent Live
  • Ignition Live
  • Ground/Earth
  • 2x Left Speaker (Front)
  • 2x Right Speaker (Front)

You may find you have more than that due to having more speakers (BTW each speaker has 2 wires). Also you may find that you have extra wires with a voltage on them, such at illumination (for when you put your headlights on) and some vehicles have a powered Ariel/antenna.

I'll explain now roughly how to find out which wire is which, but this can be dangerous so i would recommend that is you car not confident, then get a qualified person to do it for you. You will need a multimeter, some electical tape, an AA battery and a pen.

  1. Firstly you need to identify the Live wires. To do this, set your multimeter to DC and the setting that usually says something like "20". Then you need to put one end on a known earth on the car and the other end on the end of each wire with the ignition off. When you find a voltage (around 12V) then that should be you permenant live. Put some tape around it an mark it P+. Then do the same again but with the ignition on, and leaving out the wire you have just marked up. When you find a voltage (again around 12V), turn the ignition on and off a few times to see if the voltage comes and goes too. If so, tape it and mark it I+. (bear in mind that some cars may only have an ignition live or only a permenant live)
  2. Next you need to find the ground. To do this, set your multimeter to the continuity setting (so that when you touch the 2 probes together it beeps) and place the black probe onto a known good earth somehwre on the cars chasis. Then, as before, touch the other probe onto the end of each wire until the multimeter beeps, that is your earth, so tape it and mark it up as "E".
  3. Now hopefully you should be left with at least 4 wires. Now strip these wires back, pick one and hold it on the end of you battery. Then one by one touch the other wires on the other end of battery until one of you speakers makes a popping noise, then you have a pair of wires for your speaker. But before you mark it up, check to see if the speaker is "popping" in or out when you put the wires on the end of the battery. If it is popping in, then change your wires around. When it is popping out, then the wire on the +ive end of the battery is your speaker +ive wire. And obviously the wire on the other end is the -ve wire. Mark them up (EG. "FR+" for front right +ve) and move onto the next wire. until you have enough pairs for the amount of speakers you have
  4. Now you may be left with a few extra wires (EG. on vauxhalls/opels you have a separate display, so you will have many extra wires). Dont worry, just carefully tape the ends of each wire so that none of the copper inside can touch anything, and then tape them all together and tuck them away.
  5. Finally, strip and solder (or crimp) your wires to the appropriate ones on the stereo (the wiring is usally on the head unit or in the manual) and away you go.

Enjoy..........

Why does a car make a ticking noise while driving?

There could be many causes, but IF your vehicle uses a mechanical speedometer cable then if the lubrication [grease] has dried out then the "sticking" of the rotating inner cable against the outer protective cable could be causing the tick.

Why is my VW polo overheating?

First point of order is to check the coolant levels, check your service manual if you don't know where it is. If that's ok, you're water pump is likely to be faulty, if that's ok it'll be head gasket or an ecu problem.

Where is the best place to fit rear speakers on a 306 estate?

I also have a 306 estate and had a similar problem. The rear speakers are mounted in the tail gate and ate 7x5, an awkward size for performance speakers. This leaves you with a few options. 1. Replace the speakers in the tailgate with better ones. 2. Build a box to mount somewhere within the car and mount 6x9s in here. However, I've just done this and decided it takes too much space out the car (whats the point in an estate if you cant use it, gotta get my surfboards in) Besides, youll still need to do the below steps to snip the wires out anyway. 3. Remove the storage at the rear of the boot. Remove the opening flap and take out the inner plastic lining. By taking out the right screws it leaves you with a metal opening. This can easily be sealed by a sheet of 6mm MDF cut to size. You can then mount your speakers in here. You'll need to remove the screws around the facia surrounding the rear windows first, to get to the wires. Wires to cut n shut should be 845 yellow and 846 white passenger side, and 847 white and 848 yellow drivers side. You might want to play arund with connections, I soldered mine in a way that it would be easy to remove/replace speakers. All you gotta do then is wire it up and screw your wooden plates on, hey presto. If anyone wants help or photos, email jcbriley@hotmail.com
