Did you mean a B5 Passat? The filter is on the lefthand side of the engine bay. It is directly in front of the windshield, beneath the scuttle. The filter is hidden by a black plastic cover with a single screw (posidrive head) with a big washer. Under the cover you will find a pleated paper element. Measure the element before visiting your parts vendor as there are (at least) two different size filters of this type. Hope that this helps...by lefthand side I mean when sitting in the vehicle. If you are looking at a different model of Passat it is still worth having a good look around the same area as described as similar solutions follow on through generations.

There is a mark on the dampener pully that lines up with the mark on the timing cover,

There is another mark on the back side of the timing cover, Next to the valve cover on the bottom, It lines up with the Edge of the cover,

There is a plug on the transmission housing, remove it and it should show O|T It should line up aswell.

Note: Remember make sure the crank is not on TDC when turning the cam!!

when you pop the hatch there will be a little cap over a screw on the top of the taillight that can be taken off.Unscrew the screw underneath.the furthest out lense of the taillight (usually red) will have to be pop'd off also, put a flathead screw driver in between the lense and the rest of the taillight lense. pry it but becareful, this tends to break easily.there should be 2 screws there that need to be taken out, after they are out, apply a little pressure to the taillight to pop it out of the brackets that are holding it in.hope that helps.

The maximum capacity is 2.5 liters and the minimum is 1.9 liters (depending on the size of the engine for the VW Transporter van.

I bought my 1970 bus (which has been converted to a camper without a poptop) for 2000 dollars off of Kijiji (used). but I thought I could drive it back and ended up spending about 3000 in total. don't get stuck in Saskatchewan cause you will be hitchhiking for about 3 hours before somebody finally picks you up. and you'll wait about 6 hours for a bus to show up.

I recently "shed" an alternator belt which trapped itself between the cam belt and bottom pulley sending the cam timing out. Stripping and re build I was annoyed to find no bottom pulley TDC mark. VW stated I needed to take the car in. Examination of the removed items showed that the bottom toothed pulley has a "pimple" machined ito its face. That pimple lines up with an enlarged hole in the "auxiliary belt pulleys. If you look at the rear of those pulleys, there is a very fine notch machined into them. Carefully line the bottom pulley up with that "notch" at TDC, together with the cam belt timing being set where it needs to be, (use a 6mm bolt/drill through to the head to lock). replace the belt and tension. Rotate the engine on a "spanner" to ensure no contact. Then test. It worked for me...!
