It is located in an area call the North Pacific Gyre, which is a patch of the North Pacific Ocean that covers thousands of square miles roughly between the United States and Japan and reaching toward Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. It's called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch because the prevailing ocean currents tend to swirl around this patch of ocean, causing all manner of floating debris to be concentrated in the gyre.

Acid rain is caused by the same processes world wide, not just France. SOx and NOx are dissolved into water droplets and convert to nitrous or sulfurous acids. These then fall as acidic precipitation.

With the close proximity of several major industrial countries in Europe acid precipitation precursors may originate from a number of sources to impact any of the other countries.

Yes and No. The Charles River flows through the city of Boston. I heard this story... Unfortunately, the original city planners designed the storm drains and the sewer system of Boston as one in the same. They combined the systems into one piping system. Consequently, the sewage treatment plants must process the city sewage AND the the rain water that enters all the city storm drains. At times of unusually heavy rainfall, the sewage treatment plants cannot handle the massive volume of rain water mixed with sewage, and the untreated overflow is forced into the Charles River. As a result the excessive growth of bacteria feeding off the untreated sewage causes the river water to turn green. So, if this accidental and unfortunate incident occurs on St. Patrick's Day, I guess we might say that we have colored the Charles River the color of green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. I understand that ALL other cities in America designed the sewage system separate from the storm drain system. Boston is the only city with this problem.

There are various steps taken by government. Various schemes are formed.

• Heat waves will kill many people, especially the young, the old, and the sick.
• Rising temperatures will allow the maleria-carrying mosquito to move into countries that were once too cold.

In general pollution from ship wtecks results from the loss of fuel oil to the environment. The Titanic did not make any oil pollution (except for minor volumes of lubricating oil) as it was coal fired. Coal would be inert in the marine environment.

That relies completely on things like: how big is the engine, does it have proper exhaust, how hard are you accelerating ETC. But it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it is in New Zealand.
