Tha alternator on this car car is very hard to see and to get to to replace. On the front of engine, down low between the radiator and engine, above the A/C compressor.- techJK ----------------------------------------

It is the wire that supplies the initial field current to the alternator from the battey. Once the alternator is rotating the field current will be provided by the diodes from the current produced by the alternator. excitor wire is usually wired through the charging indicator light.

Strat the engine, let run for an few minutes, then while running disconnect the battery. Alternator is good if the engine continues to run. does not wok on Deisel feed enginess

Due to the layout of the cd20 in a Serena it is not uncommon for the alternator too run at high temperatures. However the alternators that were fitted originally were capable of dealing with the required heat stresses. As long as the alternator is a good quality one it is normal. These engines do use alternator belts quickly so that is not unnusual.

ok buddy , i am talking about 1993 Mazda mx6 4 cyl. when you look down you can see the one side of the alternator . put your hand on the back side which you can't see you will find a mounting bolt .you will feel it with your hand . that needs to be loosened first before you can loosen that the long tension bar . good luck , i just replaced the drive belts today ...ouff

your battery may be bad If you have one that has coves pop the covers to see if their is any water in the cells if a few are dry add water. if they are all full take it to a local shop or auto parts store they will test it. make sure you turn off all electrical things like cell phone charger make sure all dores are closed if they are ajar they may drain the battery If the battery is good, then use the following. If you have a multi-meter, connect it in series with the battery to see if there is current draw. If there is, then diconnect the fuses one-at-a-time to see which circuit is drawing power. Sometimes a bad alternator/regulator can seem like a bad battery or current draw. If the alternator output voltage is high enough to shut off the warning light, but slighly low, then the battery won't charge fast enough. If you take a few short trips, the battery will get weaker everytime you start the car. If you suspect the battery, get a charger to top off the battery. Let it sit for a couple of days, then try to start it. If it is weak, then you may have a bad battery or current leak.

with everything off unhook the negative terminal an place a voltmeter between the battery and the cable if the needle comes up you have a draw. start pulling fuses until the needle drops when it does you've found your current draw

if the belt just coems of its should eb about $40 not including towing and that is on a manual transmission

pretty easy, but you'll want to make sure it's charging, and that means also checking the voltage regulator...so.. You should be able to find a shop manual at your local library with the right info...make copies as they are usually only in the REFERENCE section....good luck:)

From Haynes Repair Manual #36071 Alternator - removal and installation: (1)disconnect the negative cable from the battery; (2)remove the air cleaner assembly; (3)unplug the electrical connectors from the alternator; (4)remove the electrical connector bracket (if equipped); (5) remove the drivebelt; (6)remove the three bolts holding the alternator to its mounting bracket; (7)installation is reverse of removal.

Check the parasitic load on the battery should not exceed .07 amps. Disconnet - side of battery and connect test light in series w/it. (light will illuminate if excessive current flow) Pull each fuse one at a time until light goes out. At least that will tell you which circuit is draining battery. The newer cars are supposed to maintain battery life (with a fully charged battery) for 21 days. Usually a short, meaning an open electrical circuit, is draining your battery. This means even though you have the car shut off, some thign is draining current from your battery. A wire may have rubbed the insulation off and is now touching metal somewhere on the car and this is letting the current drain from the battery. Shorts are very hard to find but can be done using a circuit tester and patience. As long as you have that short, the only way to prevent your battery from drainign is to get a battery disconnect........it's connects to the negative post on the battery and when you turn it it either allows the current to flow from the battery or else it shuts it off. Of course you will have to turn it on and off all the time but it will get you by for awhile.

generally if you hook up a multi-meter to the battery and start the engine it should read 13.5 or 14 volts, when you turn on headlights and other accessories the alternator should keep the battery charged up to at least 12 volts, you can also just check the battery to see how many volts it's putting out before you start the vehicle

Well first try the easy part take the battery out and go get it tested if its still good move on to the next part take the alternator out and take it to an auto parts store and get it tested. I had same problem it turned out to be starter ashort in starter will also drain battery

A dead cell in the battery will cause it to loose it's charge overnight. The only fix is to replace the battery. Any light that is staying on will drain the battery. Also a stuck relay will drain the battery.
