Brake Fluid and Lubrication

Is the fluid level droping without it showing up on a wheel. If it is, probably leaking the back of the master cylinder. If the brake pedel pumps up, pump it a couple of times and hold pressure on it. It should slowly push to the floor. If it does, it's the master.

Each are done differently. and depending on the car. this can be easy or hard. get a Chiltons manual.

Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid with very specific properties. Transmission is also a hydraulic fluid or oil with very different properties. The two are not interchangeable with each other. Use only the fluids specified by the manufacture of your equipment.

THe fluid will need flushed and changed.

only buy on jaguar deales because is special mineral oil.

remove them greese them up if that dont work replace seals or buy new ones

In the cab, in front of the drivers seat on the floor is a plug(roughly 3"x5" plate) that you remove to gain access to the master cylinder. Once that plate is removed you will see the cab that turn's off so you can add fluid.

A problem has been detected with the Anti-lock Brake System :

It could be a fuse ( blown or not installed all the way )

A sensor , or some other problem

As long as the red " BRAKE " light in your dash is not on , you still have

" normal " brakes

brake fluid changes and brake inspections should be done atleast every two years, mainly the brake fluid has a tendancy to soak up moisture in the air and then this accumulated water tends to boil in the lines and calipers and brake cylinders during use, causing air pockets and a degradtion of braking, and can cause a complete loss of brakes at times.

No. That would be a huge mistake. Buy brake fluid. Its only $2 to $8 dollars at a store.

My 2001 Mitsu Monty Sport also had the HOLD light come on. What does it mean? I'm afraid to call Mitsu because every visit somehow costs >$1000! Press the button on the dashboard "A/T Mode" changeover switch, which switches the driving mode between Normal and Hold. From the Owner's Manual: "Select the "HOLD" mode when starting your vehicle on a road surface slippery from snow or the like, and the vehicle will start smoothly...other than "L" position, the vehicle starts in second gear." BTW, red brake light is probably the emergency brake light switch, which might just need cleaning or adjustment.

The reservoir for each of these is usually transparent, so you can also verify the condition of the fluid at the same time. The brake fluid should be an amber color, while transmission fluid should be red. If you have an older car, you would check the brake fluid at the master cylinder, each side of which should be full. Be sure to close the lid securely after checking the fluid. The transmission fluid (on automatic transmition) is checked via a long dipstick, it should read between "add" and "safe". If you are in need of more transmission fluid, pour it in down the dipstick tube. A long funnel works well for this. Be sure to use the appropriate fluid for your transmission, they aren't all created equally. Or about 3,000 miles(about 3 months)
