Notes
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove glove box attaching screws, then the glove box.
- Remove lower sound insulator attaching screws and nuts, then the lower sound insulator.
- Remove programmer as follows:
- Remove programmer shield attaching screws, then the programmer shield.
- Disconnect threaded rod from programmer.
- Disconnect programmer electrical and vacuum connector, then remove programmer.
- Disconnect body control module electrical connector, then remove module attaching screws and module.
- Remove relay panel from module assembly, then the module assembly heater core cover.
- Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
- Remove two heater core attaching screws, then the heater core.
- Reverse procedure to install.

How do you adjust distributor on 92 deville?
This tutorial assumes that you know how to use timing light.
To adjust the basic timing on any Cadillac 4.9 by rotating the distributor:
1) When the Engine is at normal operating temp, A/C off, Place Transmission in "PARK".
2) With the ignition "OFF" remove air cleaner upper housing and duct to throttle body.
3) Jumper pins A&B at the ALDL plug A/C panel should display "SET TIMING MODE".
4) Start engine, let it run at idle (less than 800 RPM)
5) Base timing should be set at 10° BTDC. If you need to adjust this, there is one 15 mm nut holding down the base of the distributor that must be loosened, it is very hard to get to without the special wrench (Kent-Moore #J29791 or Snap-On #S6134).
6) Once the timing is set, retighten the distributor hold down nut and recheck the timing.
7) Remove jumper at the ALDL plug.
8) Re-install air cleaner upper housing and duct to throttle body. All done!

If your deville has "PFI" in red letters on the valve cover you have a 4.9 "B" motor and the starter is on the outside left front of the engine. You can see the starter from underneath between the radiator and the oil pan.

Steam from the tailpipe, and water in the oil means you have a faulty head gasket. Not a good thing. The steam is the antifreeze/water coolant leaking into the heads (bad gasket) getting heated by the engine and coming out as steam. The water in the oil is the same deal, but it;s collecting in the oil so it isn't coming out of the tailpipe. You need a new head gasket. I promise.
