If the car is a manual and you are riding or slipping the clutch it could be that. Otherwise if you have been real hard on the brakes lately they can create quite a smell aswell.

I would have to ask exactly what you're smelling. If it's exhaust, you have an exhaust leak somewhere where it's able to get into the HVAC ducts - exhaust manifolds are a likely culprit here. You'll need to repair the leak.

If it's electrical, your blow motor is probably burning out. You'll have to replace it.

If it's a moldy smell, you have mold on the evaporator and/or in the ductwork. Get some anti-mold spray. Run your vehicle with the AC on high (but NOT on Max AC - you need fresh air intake), spray it into the intake ducts underneath the wipers, and run the AC for ten minutes afterwards. For the evaporator, get some of the foaming anti-mold spray, and spray it into the vent by the passenger door. Repeat as needed until the smell goes away. To help prevent it from happening again, make sure you shut your AC off a few minutes before you shut your vehicle down.

A cylinder not firing will push raw gasoline into the exhaust system where an O2 sensor will read it as running rich assuming this vehicle is fuel injected.

With a helper go to a car wash. Spray around the door and windshield with the helper inside to see where the water is coming from. This is the easiest way to find the leaks and plug or repair them.

a moldy smell is ususally caused by fungus growing in the fins of the A/C evaporator core, because there is a constant supply of moisture on the evaporator core. There are a number of products out there that are for this problem. Winns has a good one, and the Ford dealer has one as well. Check your local parts store or dealer.

Many times the problem is a valve cover gasket(s) that has leaked oil onto the hot exhaust manifold underneath it. When you have stopped in traffic, or if you are on a hill, etc., the oil that has leaked has a chance to run down on the hot manifold and smells like rubber or oil burning. Most of the time this is just a nuisance but it should be repaired if is bad enough to the point you can smell it in your car or truck.

A simple tune up and oil and filter change should improve things. refreshing the ignition components will improve combustion and it will require less fuel to operate and will run cleaner.

This just happened to my truck last week! :( I had it looked at and they said it could have possibly been the fuel pump. They ran the check engine light test and everything and couldn't find anything wrong. Might just be the car acting up!

Too much sulphur in the fuel you are using. Buy gas from a different dealer and drive at least 100 niles or more.

The excess sulphur is being oxidized by the catalytic converter into sulphur dioxide (rotten eggs).

Check the fuel lines at the gas tank and also check the filler neck tube where you put the gas in to see if it has a hole in it or is leaking where it is attachd to the fuel tank. My wife an I got both a 1996 Buick LeSabre and a 1996 Buick Park Avenue from her father which we use for our winter cars. This December both cars started to leak fuel. The leak was in front of the rear passenger tire. Further inspection revealed that the fuel line coming from the sending unit had a small pin hole where the fuel line reached its apex as it is routed up toward the floor pan. The fuel line is bookended by a brake line one each side. Our local Buick dealer told us that because of the corrosion of the lines and the rubber mounts all lines would need to be replaced for about $1000. We got a second opinion form a garage and they fixed each car for $150 using a ridgid plastic line and wire ties. If this is your experience don't let this go long. The fuel is being sprayed out of the line at high pressure and being deposited on the rear passenger tire which will break the tire down an can make control difficult when riding through standing water.

I had the gas smell problem with my 1998 Honda Accord. The smell only was a problem when the engine was running, especially idling. In my case, there was nothing wrong with the fuel line, tank or carbon canister. It turned out to be a loose spark plug. In addition to the other fuel related areas, I highly recommend checking each plug and tightening if necessary. G

A smeel of burning oil can be two ways- A leak that runs down the engine and heated up - Cooking the residue off- clean the engine -could be some small amounts of smoke like a light fog around compartment and engine at stop, The other smell of oil can come from burning internally - you would have white to blue smoke out of tail pipe- you've seen trucks and some busses do this . you smell it too - it's harder to breath than the small oil leak on the engine block - you may have other fluids spewing on engine to burn off as well - oil is brown/ clear - transmission is red . If unsure what fluid =put paper or cardboard down to catch leaks - it will also let you concentrate on a specific area if it is not clearly visible.

If the gas smell is stronger in the trunk then that normally indicates that there is a leak in a fuel line around or on top of the tank...usually it is on top of the tank because dirt/salt ect can build up on the tank and the lines corrode...

If the smell is stronger inside the car then it could indicate a leak in the fuel line from the engine compartment to the center point of the car...

None the less if you are smelling gas then there is a leak somewhere in the system and you should have it checked before it catches fire and burns up...

No, it will not. If you have gas smell in cabin it means that the gas line is leaky. And you better find that leak.

it is just normal because when you accelrate you burn a lot of gas.
