Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

At idle or low engine idle speeds you motor may surge. This could be caused by an air leak in your intake manifold or a bad sensor like a TPS or MAP.

Could your car stall from a loose spark plug?

If you have a loose spark plug, your car will not stall unless maybe your engine has 3 cylinders. If you have a 6 or 8 cylinder engine you would just loose some power and your engine would run a little rough.

Why does my 1931 Ford Model A backfire and die after driving 5 miles?

Check the carb., make sure it is clean. If it not clean, blow it out really good, dip in in a bucket of gasoline, let sit to dry then blow out again. Check spark plugs, clean, change if neccesary. Drain gas if unsure how old it is. Very easy to drain gas, unscrew from firewall, and turn gas switch on with hose connected to it to drain. More than likey, bad gas and/or spark plugs need to be cleaned/changed...

What if my 2001 eclipse stalls at idle if blower motor is off?

If you turn off the air conditioning (including defrost which uses the air conditioning) does this also cause it to stall?

If so, you might not be getting enough air into the computer. First try cleaning the throttle body. If this helps, you're OK. If that doesn't help, have someone repeatedly tap of the throttle body very fast with a screwdriver handle as you switch the blower motor off. If that prevents the stalling, replace the IAC. Also, try removing the IAC from the car without unplugging it. Have someone turn the key on and off repeatedly. The plunger should extend and retract just a bit as they turn the key. If it keeps extending and never retracts, replace it.

What damage is done when a manual car stalls?

When the car stalls out, depending on speeds, you can strip part of your transmission. (Basically break the tranny). Most stalls are stripping and what not when it comes to stalling, also I'm pretty sure you can short out some of the systems inside the vehicle.

Why would a 1996 Mazda 626 2.0 L cut out while driving at 3500-4000 rpm?

There are some very quick checks to fix this. I found that my car was running very rich (lots of gas and exhaust but no get up and go). I replaced everything! Hopefully I can save you some time and money. First find the air intake sensor, it should be between your filter and the throttle along the air intake hose. Disconnect it. Try your car now. Mine turned into a formula one race car after this step alone - of course by this time I had replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, air filter, fuel regulator, O2 sensors and fuel injectors. Now it's worth keeping.

Why would a 2000 gmc envoy stall when starting?

check with GMC. There was a recall that came out about that and you can go to the GMC recall site and get the exact reason. Need to take it in though. Jerry There are other things that you can do first fairly easily. Sounds like fuel system problem. Change your air filter, your fuel filter, put in a bottle of Valvoline Synthetic Fuel Cleaner and change spark plugs. If your Envoy has done 100k miles on the same spark plug wires, change those too. Use only OEM wires. Also change your emmissions equipment, such as the EGR valve, PCV valve, O2 sensor and breather filter. These are all pretty easy jobs and the whole thing should take you under 2 hours with a repair manual. Shank

Why would an engine suddenly knock very loud and then stall out?

A loud knock is usually associated with a rod bearing. The rod connects the crankshaft to the piston. If a rod bearing went out, possibly from an oil pump going bad, it would stall out the motor.

What are some possible reasons for an automatic 1992 Nissan 300 ZX to sputter stall and be sluggish while driving?

There are some seals and gaskets in the engine that may be worn out. This can result in loss of compression. I had my mechanic take apart the engine and replace all the seals where oil was leaking, and this noticeably increased accelleration and made it sound better. You may be using the wrong oil, or you don't have enough oil in it. (Don't use the internet to determine how much oil it takes. I made that mistake. Different versions take different amounts.) When my mechanic put in the wrong oil (5W50 synthetic) my 1990 N/A sounded like an old pinto after driving a bit, though it started up smoothly.

What is the high pitched sound that gets louder when car goes faster?

Well depends on the car... On a car with a turbo charger that is what you are hearing. Or, I've heard whistles coming from exhaust leaks as well as those little prank whistles you can stick in the back of exhaust.
