Car Stalling Problems

If your Kia Sephia doesn't move in drive, but does move in 1st and 2nd gear, you have a problem with the transmission. Sometimes this is just an issue with the linkage and can be repaired easily.

Gravity and friction. You need to keep the accelerator pressed to compensate for loss in speed.

A vacuume leak at the intake manifold or vacumme hose can cause a high idle. On carbuerated vehicles the idle adjustment screw may be set to high. On fuel injected vehicles, the Idle Air Control(IAC) circuit or valve may be faulty. On newer vehicles you may be able to get a trouble code to help pinpoint the problem. Chris

it will stall if the fuel injectors haven't been cleaned for 30k miles and if it has been over 30k miles since the base idle and engine timing have been reset. repair all malfunction indicators for the engine and test engine lean/rich condition * Also, it could be a dirty fuel filter. I also had this problem because the mesh bag surrounding the fuel pump was clogged with a fine silt. Check the fuel filter first.

One of the main reasons a car stalls out is because of a worn out sensor or a faulty electrical component. Some other very common reasons are a vacuum system leak, a clogged catalytic convertor, and a leak in the fuel system.

To turn it off that's all you have to do is push down on the lcd light. It will light up different and that's how you know its off.

If it's an automatic, you may have a sticking solenoid INSIDE the transmission.

Could also be a dirty fuel system.You have a fuel injected engine and this puts your pump inside the fuel tank.When the pump is operating it will pick up fuel off the bottom of the tank.This is also where dirt,sediments and water sit.The filter on the end of the pump will plug up and starve the engine which will turn off (stall).After the vehicle sits a while these sediments and dirt will drop off the filter as some small amount of fuel drains back into the tank thus allowing you to restart the car. REPLACE THE TANK AND FUEL PUMP!!!

The first thing that limits ANY VEHICLE going through water is the height of the AIR INTAKE for the engine. Loosely speaking, if your air intake is at the height of the top of your vehicle ( the top of the cabin ) that is the depth of water your DIESEL VEHICLE could go through, only problem is it would Float away while you werte attempting this. You see what I mean.

If you suck water into your motor through your AIR INTAKE. KAPUT !!! One wrecked motor. Got my drift !

If its a diesel it will go pretty well anywhere. your AIR is what governs you.

Note the air intake height does matter but, common rail diesels are controlled by wire (electronics) you can drive through water with no problems but the contaminates in flood water will over time cause corrosion in the wiring contacts and black boxes.

Also note: That the postioning and the quality of the seal on the engine's management system can affect the depth as well. Some cheaper vehicles have poor quality seals on the Management computer, which will allow water to enter the system. This has the same effect as pouring water onto a laptop. Also, most common rail diesel engines have very strict oil and lubrication requirements, and if water enters the oil system (through a cracked oil breather for example) it can destroy the engine in a very short space of time.

The primary cause for jerking on a 99 Mercury Cougar is the engine not getting enough fuel. This can be a sign of a clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, or clogged fuel injectors.

Change your piston rings. Check your compression. I'll bet that cylinder is more than 15% lower that spec.(all the others in the motor if its a older one.)If you just did that you will see some untell the rings seat. (if you made sure all the new ring gaps are not lined-up in the same place).SELL THE CAR OR FIX IT. If the oil was on the top of the plugs you fix whatever is leaking on them. If it was on the electrode, the above is true.

some vehicles have a failsafe sensor or low oil pressure or level sensor if the sensor reads low oil level or pressure it will automatically shut off the car and not allow it to be started until the fault is repaired

Take out the idle jet on the side of the carby and give it a good blow out. If this fails clean out carby. Another quick fix that sometimes works, take off aircleaner rev motor hard and put your hand over the top of carby. Your hand will be sucked down and this will usually dislodge any blockage in carby. Remove your hand before motor stalls!

The torque converter is an integral part of the automatic transmission, and the automatic transmission is under the control of the vehicle computer. Disconnecting the torque converter sensor or in fact, any other internal transmission sensor, will result in significant performance issues, and will show up as an error in the vehicle fault codes.

I had the same from, this especially can happen with fuel injected cars. Some main things you want to check is the timing belt if its off setting or mot, or maybe your fuel filter or fuel pump. These could be some of the problems that cause your car to idle.

Because when the engine is sitting there not warmed up with any fluids running through the components, and suddenly it gets put into gear, it stalls to send a warning that the engine is still cold..always warm up a vehicle when the weather is cold! ALWAYS! even a new car, if its cold you must let the car work itself into driving conditions....try running a mile with absolutely no liquid running through you, see how many times YOU stall..

This can only happen to shift stick cars, and how this happens is that the gears grind together!

first check your coolant level. then check to see if you have a leak, then check to see if you cooling fans are coming on then check if your thermostat is working.

Yes it can. The problem with the design of the Jeep wranglers is the fact that the fuel pump is in the fuel tank itself. There are many people that will not change fuel pumps on jeeps because its a hassle and they also need a specific tool that most of them dont carry. You need to shop around and find a place that replaces them before you hop from place to place. When you find a place try to not have any gas in your tank because they have to drain it and you will have to buy more gas
