Look for a missing or broken rubber vacuum cap on the front side of the air intake. There is a vacuum port that can cause a vacuum leak while the engine is running, if it is uncovered. It will appear to run fine for about 15 minutes from a cold start and then suddenly start to stall and run rough. It will be OK again when it cools down and then it starts all over again. It has to do with when the fuel system goes from an open loop operation into a closed loop routine. The fuel system will misread certain sensors because of the vacuum leak. Look for ANY significant vacuum leak, but the one described is the most common.
I have the same problem, I changed from Catback, still have cracks in exhoust mainifold changing it this week to see if it stops the problem. If not one more check is my fuel tank it is bent under the tank, might be to close to pump. I've been Italy in for the past two yrs so there fuel sucks. In mine the battery was dying. I changed that and it stoped.

I am not an expert but I dink around a little bit. I am having that problem on a 1994 sunbird. We think it is because the idle speed is low. Usually idles around 1.5rpm, now it stays around one. When you slow down the rpms drop to the idle position. If that is too low you will stall.

This is a 1999 Ford Courier, btw...If the tank gets below a half tank it will lose power (like if it needed STP gas treatment or something). Then, once you stop and start again it's OK for a while. It can be many things, but the fact that it overheated and then shut down would make me suspect a blown head gasket. That is assuming that you did not just keep drivng it after it became apparent it was hot.

5) hard-shifting tranny
6) putting the gear select in P or switching between D and R without coming to a complete stop
Use of the parking brake can extend the life of motor mounts. To use the parking brake in this manner when parking the car:
1) Come to a complete stop and hold the brake pedal down.
2) Shift into N
3) Set the parking brake firmly (but not excessively)
4) Momentarily release the brake pedal, then reapply.
5) Shift into P
After you start the engine again, follow this procedure:
1) Apply the brake.
2) Release the parking brake if it is not auto-releasing type.
3) Move the gear select out of P.

This just started happening to my 2000 Ford Focus SE. I am investigating the Mass Airflow Sensor, which affects idle as well as the ECM (engine control module) which apparently affects idle, too. I suggest starting there. I had the same problem. There is a vacuum line that goes from the PCV valve to another port behind the engine - mine had a crack right at the elbow. Listen for a hiss or spray carb cleaner around it and look for the engine to rev up. The new vacuum line is covered in a foil, probably to prevent the engine heat from degrading it.

the seal on the valve cover needs to be replaced. my 2000 neon had the same problem. I replaced the seals in the valve cover and it fixed the problem. The kit came with the seals for the spark plugs.
