Car Starting Problems

well i dont know exactly where the starter is but you should be able to see it under the car around where the tranny bellhousing meets the engine at the fly wheel(auto) or flex plate(manual) either on the left or right side. if the car is not turning over at all then you can put a jumper from the battery to the starter solenoid and that should kick the starter on if it doesnt then you starter/solenoid is bad. but if you car turns over but doesnt start then your starter is fine.

It depends on which solenoid you mean. The STARTERsolenoid is integral to the starter.

The starter is located on the right hand side of the engine near the bottom. You can follow the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter.

They can be one of two places. Either at the top rear of the engine, or at the front, also on top.

I called DEI as I had the same problem. Keep the driver door ajar, unlocked. Hit the LOCK, UNLOCK, LOCK rapidly.

Are you CERTAIN that it was reprogrammed correctly? If it was, then you've got other problems with the ignition system that will need diagnosing and you'll have to give more symptoms. Does the little red blinking light go out when you insert the key in the ignition? Does the relay 'click' when you turn the key? Does the engine turn over, but not 'catch?' Etc.

In almost EVERY GM vehicle I've seen it's mounted in the dashboard, to the right of the glove box. But in fairness, I haven't worked on a 1990 Sierra.

Fuel injectors need to be replaced every so often. If the fuel injectors are not working, they may be too old, and need to be replaced or put in properly.

It will not turn over.

Your key is going out. It has a safety feature in it.

More generally speaking:

Many engines use electronic controls rather than the older style mechanical distributor. Follow the spark plug wires from the plugs to wherever they connect. If the other end isn't a distributor, it's probably a coil pack in which case you don't HAVE a distributor.

GM has been using coil packs on their 4 cylinder engines for quite some time now. Don't expect a distributor on your engine.

you should take a fuel line out ,where the filter is at, and check if it squirts out gas ........

Crankshaft sensor is located on the right side of the cylinder block behind or under the starter. It is fitted into the rear crankshaft oil seal hausing.

Remove a battery connector. Remove the starter and put another in it's place.

On a Toyota Landcruiser, it cuts power to the air-conditioner compressors's magnetic clutch when the starter is engaged (cranking engine)

You probably destroyed the fuel pump, which happens a lot when you run a fuel-injected car out of gas.

All batteries will have some kind of cathode (positive element), anode (negative element), and some type of electrolyte.

Often there will be several sets of cathodes, anodes, and electrolytes configured in series to increase the voltage. For example in a car battery, there are 6 cells, each having roughly 2.1 volts arranged in series to produce a total of 12 volts. The acid used in car batteries is sulfuric acid.

Lead acid batteries use a lead anode (-) plate, a lead dioxide cathode (+) plate, and a sulfuric acid electrolyte. These are usually arranged in sets of plates next to each other in a car battery.

A fun science project might be to make a "lemon battery." The lemon becomes the acid electrolyte. You can drive a galvanized nail into the lemon for the negative anode, and bare copper electrical wire for the positive cathode. A copper penny will also work, but keep in mind that from 1982 and later the pennies were copper plated zinc, so you should find a pre-1981 penny.

It appears that the Ford Aerostar with 3.0 engine does not have a crank position sensor, but the 4.0 engine does have one.

Check for spark, fuel, compression Check ignition timing

Some auto parts retail websites have spark plug wiring diagrams. One of them, AutoZone, shows the spark plug wiring diagram for the 1993 Ford Tempo 3.0 liter 6-cylinder model.

The firing order for 1996 Volvo 960 is 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4. This is for 3.0 Liter 6 cylinder engines.

Four things are needed to make an engine run, fuel, fire, air and timing.

Since you say you have fuel and fire(spark) that leaves air and timing.

Check the air filter and all connecting tubes. Is something restricting the airflow?

If not, it sounds like the timing belt/chain is shot or the timing out of adjustment (This means different things on different cars)

I had the same issue and after replacing sensors, regulators, relays, etc. car still wouldn't start! Finally picked up a used pcm/ecm module (electronic control module) at a salvage yard, plugged it in and car started up. Just to test I reconnected the old pcm/ecm and again car wouldn't start. Put back the replacement and car fired up. I've seen on the internet where people did the same as me, replacing fuel pump, sensor, relays, injectors, regulators and their car wouldn't start and they couldn't figure it out so I thought I'd share what worked in my case. rbrunr

The air bag electronics are very sensitive. If you're asking this question you probably don't have the skills to be messing with the steering wheel assembly. If you mess with it the air bag can deploy causing YOU serious injury and the expense of replacing the air bag.

Just take it to a professional, let them be responsible.

You need to check if there is a spark at the plugs & also if fuel is getting to the

cylinders.

The micra has a fuel injection fuse in the fuse box located on the front panel.

It may also be a problem with the crank position sensor or the engine

coolant tmprature sensor.
