Check Engine Light

The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

Trouble code P0498 means: Evaporative emission system, vent control - circuit low

Need a code reader that can plug into car's diag port (OBD1) preferably after repair or it will come on again. Find out why the light is on-it could be serious or get expensive if you ignore. You may also be able to reset by disconnecting batt for 30 mins, but will only be temporary.

You need someone with a scanner that can pull the codes unless problem is real obvious. There are about 30 sensors on a car and 150 codes the computer uses to indicate problem area,. A fault has to occur 2x to illuminate light.

It looks like an engine, or it may just say Check Engine.

Egr flow sensor big problem with ford. Need to check o2 switching and fuel trims with scanner. Ft should be+or -10% switching and o2 should switch between .1&.9volts or 100-900 milli volts depending on scanner. It is unlikely that only one bank can be rich and lean. Bank 1 is passenger side. Cyl 1front on that side. Coil hi failure item on fords and can affect o2 readings

The check engine light is on because there is a problem with the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with OBD 2 scanner. This will retrieve the code that has been set. This code will tell you what part is being effected. Not necessarily the bad part but it will lead you in the direction of the defective part.

You should check your fluid levels, your oil and coolant.

There are pages and pages and items that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes with a scan tool. After repair light can be shut off with scan tool.

Unless you're going to bring your jag to a mechanic, the only way to find out what that light means is to buy a code reader @ $129 at most auto stores. The tool will tell you how to use it and hook it up. Once the code tells you where to look you are then on your own as to what else you need to do. (IE) if the code tells you #3 coil is bad and # 4 is bad you still have to know how to change the coils. Hope this helped Bud Sisto

Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine ( 4.2 / 4.6 / 5.4 ) in your 1997 Ford F-150

Sensor 1 is in the exhaust ( close to the motor ) before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter

use trip computer switch located on wiper lever when service indicator comes up press in button on side of lever

There are numerous reaons for your check engine light. Check the tightness of gas cap, one of the many sensors you have may be back, emission related possibly. Go to you nearest Autozone and they will check it for free. That would direct you to a possible solution.

With the ignition off--hold down the button you use to reset the tripometer, then turn the ignition on while still holding the reset button down.

The light should flash then go off.

Once you hold down on the re-set button and turn on the ignition, you need to continue to hold the button down for an addtional 10 seconds for it to go off.

Call your local inspector and get the violation, get a copy of it in writing if you havent done so already. The person who took your monies should have the permit and have a builders license? Call the license board most states require a licensed builder for anything over 600.00. Folks hire only licensed professional pool builders, The person with the license will have a copy of his license for your viewing pleasure, accept no substitutes like the commercial says. Insurance is a good idea also, your protected when a problem arises the builder cannot financially handle. Call and check to make sure the builder is really licensed and insured. Well since we don't know What you are driving, Make, Model or Year. Here is what My 2004 GMC Canyon Owner's Manual tells me. GM Oil Life System™ Press the reset stem until OIL LIFE appears (flashing)on the display. The GM Oil Life System™ shows an estimate of the oil’s remaining useful life. It will show 100% when the system is reset after an oil change. It will alert you to change your oil on a schedule consistent with your driving conditions. Always reset the engine oil life after an oil change. To reset the oil life system press and hold the reset stem while OIL LIFE is displayed. The system will reset and a beep will sound. The DIC does not replace the need to maintain your vehicle as recommended in the Maintenance Schedule in this manual. The oil change reminder will not detect dusty conditions or engine malfunctions that may affect the oil. Also, the oil change reminder does not measure how much oil you have in your engine. A local auto parts store will usually pull the code from your check engine light for free, but the ani-lock light can only done by the dealership.

the emissions system has a sensor that is located around the catalict converter that has more than likely gone bad and needs to be replaced, or the wiring could possibly be going bad or it could be possibly the adapter to the sensor. one of those should should fix your problem.

Get the engine serviced.
