Check Engine Light

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

A flashing check engine light is usually an indication of a misfire.

You can unhook the battery or use a scan tool.

P0042 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 3)

There may be a problem in the air bag system.

Most likely

, a seat belt switch. So, check the code for it if its a switch at your local Honda dealer.

Remove the negative battery terminal for three minutes.

Probably a leak in the fuel system or the evaporative control system. Look around for loose or leaking hoses, etc., and if you can't find one, seek a competent shop.

All 1995 and later model vehicles require an OBDII scanner tool to retrieve the trouble codes.

It means that the oil pressure switch is showing low pressure.

under the hood (I think on the driver side near the firewall) there is a small box. When the top is removed, you'll see a bunch of numbered holes (look like a diagnostic connector), an LED and a button. This is the computer diagnostic center.

By pressing the button, the codes can be shown with LED blinks.

When you have retrieved all the codes, hold the button down for 6-8 seconds. When you turn the key off, and then start the engine, the CE light will go off. (sometimes this needs to be done twice or three times) Your welcome, i love you too. lol

i think about every s10 blazer has had this problem,lol this is very common. Usaull problems are evap canister or tank vent port leaking, your computer can detect 1\16 of an inch of a leak, The cheapest thing is to check your gascap for a leak, if you let your vehicle run with the gas cap off, like getting gas for example that could have set that code off.

Go to auto zone and have the codes read for free.

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY

I disconnected the battery and the light did not reset

On my '95 maxima I have to leave the battery disconnected for ~24 hours to reset the engine lignt.

On my 1987 Maxima there is a button to push to reset the light. It is located underneath the passenger kick panel.

On my 1999 Maxima I had to disconnect the battery for 24 hours

Go to autozone and have them clear it, easiest way, go to yoru local mechanic, he should have a obd scan tool, pay to have him remove it.

I would suspect the thermostat is stuck open. Replace the thermostat.

you didnt specify year, but its time delayed electronically. Assuming they do eventually turn off, all is well. It's 1995 Cadillac Concours the interior lights, and head lights go out when I cut the car off but the dashboard lights stay on.

To reset a check engine light for a Highlander 2003, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. After this time, reconnect the cables.

It's telling you that you have a problem. Get a code scanner and find out what the problem is.

that's a misfire .i had tht problem and i changed the spk plug cable

If you check elsewhere you will find a little tutorial on reading your diagnostics codes. I'd check for that- in case I miss something. Basically- you turn you key from battery off to on- three times. Then the check engine light will blink the first number of the code- pause and then blink the next number. Then you will get a code 55 or other default (drawing blank) and you know you are done. From that point there are lots of resources to look up your code.

Low oil or a faulty oil level senser

Just unplug your car battery for approx. 5 to 10 min. The light may still come up later, if the problem has not be corrected. P.S. You will need to reset your clock and radio stations (you may wish to wirte them befoe unplugging your car battery)

If you reset the computer then the Check Engine light comes back on, it just means that the problem still exists. You need to use a code scanner, find out what's wrong, fix the problem properly THEN see if the light comes back on. Often when the problem is properly repaired the light will go off by itself and you don't need to clear the code.

go check your gas cap and make sure it is on tight. Anytime you get a check engine light on after fueling, this normally means you didn't get the gas cap on. Make sure you click it the required number of times if that is how yours works. Also, if you leave the engine running while filling up you are going to get a service engine soon light on. Disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for a couple hours to clear the computer, then hook the battery back up and the service engine light will be off. If it comes back on take it into Auto Zone, they will read the trouble code for free and tell you what triggered it.
