If a sensor it 'tripped', once it is replaced, you need to reset the computer to eliminate the 'check engine' light. Mitz. recommends you take it to them to have this done at a cost of $15.00, but you can pull the negative power line from the battery and it will do the same thing.

To re-set Toyota Highlander 'maintenance required' dashboard warning light: Turn on the ignition and observe the odometer window. Ensure that it is set on the totalaccumulated mileage of the vehicle (NOT the trip meter). Turn off ignition. With the ignition off - depress the little plastic switch that changes the odometer to the trip meter and then while holding the switch in the depressed position, turn on ignition (it is not necessarry to start the car). Continue holding the swtich down for 5-10 seconds and you will see the odometer window flash back to zero. Release the switch and turn the ignition off, and it will be re-set for another 7,500 miles.

Plug a code reader into the diagnostic port under dash and click erase.

It is on because the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system.

Stop by AutoZone and ask them to use their code reader because officially they are not allowed to reset trouble codes.

keep an eye on it, if your not have any other problems it will ok, just aggrevating, also undo your battery cables for a few minutes, then hook them back up and if no other problems that should reset the computer and light should go off, sometimes it takes a day or two, but shouldn't unless your having some kind of other problem, try the unhooking of the cables 1st

No bad spark plugs have nothing whatsoever to do with oil pressure. The oil light comes on when there is low or no oil pressure. Causes are engine low of oil. Check the oil level. Can also be the oil pressure sending unit is defective. Replace it. Lastly the oil pump may have failed. Do not drive this car with the oil light on. Tow it in for repair if necessary.

there is always a reason why your vehicle will show the check engine or service engine soon light. I would suggest figuring out why it is on first. Start by bringing it to an Auto Zone they will hook it up to a computer, most of the time their machine will give multiple reason's why your light is on but sometimes they will tell you exactly what it is.....it's free so that is you first stop. If your not seeing a difference in the performance of the vehicle it could be something as simple as an exhaust leak which would probably show up on the computer as low emissions, however if your tranny is overheating the light will come on. That is why it is important to know why it is on. The best way to clear the code is to fix the problem and then disconnect your battery for a few mins.

NO. if you replace the fuel filter, it will have NO effect on the flashing ce lite. how bout get the codes scanned, and THEN see why it is flashing? using the guess method to diagnose a problem with the millenia doesnt work

Hi, I can only ask if you have had a smoke test done yet to determine where the leak is? I also have a '97 and have yet to find where mine is. The smoke test comes next. I also have replaced all of those and more. I think I have a leak in the fill tube vent or the overflow. I would try and have the smoke test done and then they might be able to tell where the leak is. I've been beating my head against the wall on this and only keep dumping dollars into the car but I can't afford another so on I go too. Good luck and if you find out, please put another answer here. My 04 Reg Golf TDI MKIV has had this intermittent problem. I have found that the engine oil appears to have been overfilled. Drained some off and put oil to correct level on dipstick and the engine management light went out after a short drive. handbook staes oil level is critical. I drained off over half a litre to get oil to correct level. Obviously Overfilled when it was serviced! pjpn@btintenet.com Reddtich

You need to check your oil level, looks like it is getting low or needs changing.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
