Check engine light came on four days after straight pipe was installed?
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

Not only a misfire, but a condition that could cause a catastrophic failure of the catalytic converter. The injector on the effected cylinder(s) will be shut off by the PCM
How do you reset the service engine soon light on a 1999 Lincoln town car?
Disconnect the negative battery cable for about two minutes. Know that if you do not repair the problem that set the light in the first place it will just come back on.
Monitor B1 S2 with scanner that does live data with graphs. Graph for B1 S2 should be almost flat line at .5 volt or more with engine running at 2500 rpm for 10 minutes. If not check for vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks. Year, make, model and engine info would be helpful.
Its a better bet that your O2 sensor is fouled and/or needs replaced. You can go to AUTOZONE and have it tested for free. There are two; one in front of the sensor (this is the one to have tested), and a second between the catalytic converter and muffler. Don't make the mistake (sigh....) of finding that the sensor is bad and replacing the wrong one. The one in front of the catalytic converter is a bear to replace (usually) and if you've not replaced it, that's probably a good place to start. If that sensor is OK, test the back one. If both are OK, then you're looking at the converter. Good luck!
there is somthing wrong with the emissions. if its a 2007 i has to be a defect in the computer or 2 sensers. but because its a diesel it might have more thanone senser.

How to reset the service engine light on the Pontiac Vibe?
Did you try to disconnect the battery cables and let the car sit for a minute or so? If so, when you did, did the light come back on? If the light came back on, you would need to find the root of the problem in order to get the light to come off. Mine stayed on for several months before I finally discovered that it was time to change the air-intake sensor. Once replaced, I haven't seen the little light pop up again!

How do you reset the engine light on a 96 Honda Civic?
I am presuming that you mean the check engine light on the dash.
Under the hood by the battery is a fuse box. Remove the 7 amp back-up fuse for at least ten seconds and then put it back in. The top of the fuse box should tell you which fuse this is (it is next to the wall of the fuse box on the side next to the battery).
You remove the 7.5 amp back-up fuse (for at least ten seconds) from the underhood fuse box beside the battery. The cover of the fuse box will show you which fuse (it is labelled 'back-up (radio)', and unlike what I said yesterday, is in the fuse box on the side just next to the firewall.

Resetting check engine light on 97 Honda Civic. The check engine light came on and apparently, my gas cap was loose. Replaced the cap w/ new cap from autozone (in case the seal on the cap was faulty), but the engine light stayed on. Followed the instructions on removing the 7.5 amp fuse and like magic...the engine light disappeared. Saved me at least 100 bucks.
Be careful though because sometimes if the light is off it is still on inside your ecu.. as long as everything is ok in your car the ecu will reset itself during a complete drive cycle..which is around 150 - 200 miles.
What would cause the engine light to come on and stay on in a 2001 Chevy Venture van?
I have had this problem on a 1998 and 2000 Chevy Venture and it was due to the seal on the gas cap. It caused the sensor to remain on due to allowing too much oxygen into the mix. I had to take it to a dealer to reset get it reset. Hope that helps. My problem was the catalytic converter (around 150000 miles). I am one of those guys that hate bringing any problem I have with my vehicles to a dealer or a mechanic -- Period. If your check engine is on and will not go off bring it to AutoZone or Checker (CSK Auto) and use one of their 'free' scanner tools to read the codes off the van, find out was is wrong, reset the light and repair the problem. ___________________________________________________________________________ I had this problem recently on my 2001 venture. The problem was the bank one Ho2 sensor was bad. This triggers the check engine light. After replacing the sensor (which was about $68.00),The problem was gone . Just remember to clear the code.Edubs
What if the check engine light comes on in a 2001 Chevy Cavalier?
usually, at the age of your car, the oxygen senser goes bad and requires replacement when the check engine light comes on. It means the computer has detected a problem and a code has been set. Have the computer scanned and that will determine what needs to be done. Don't replace anything until the scan.
You are incorrect. It does indeed have an O2 sensor. Purchase a repair manual at most parts stores, ( around $12 ) for detailed instructions on this and many other repairs. Volvo calls it a Lambda Sond system, and the sensor screws into the exhaust pipe just after they come from the exhaust manifold
frist off need to make sure all 3 cats are clean and free flowing next thing is a complete tune-up(could be misfire codes causing check engine light to flash last fuel pressure regulator; pull vak line off regulator if fuel comes out of vac line regulator is bad hope this helps
P0452 is fuel tank pressure sensor circuit fault. I have never heard of a P0440, but 400 series codes are in the emmissions, i.e., EGR and Evap system. I would try to fix the 452 and see if the 440 goes away with it.
Remove the positive battery cable from the battery. When you put it back on it should reset the computer and see if the light goes out the next time you start the car. On 1996 model cars/trucks, you cannot just remove the battery. It will return fast. They use no-volitile memory now and have to be cleard in two ways. Use an OBD-II code reader to clear. If problem returns, then there is still something wrong in the Emission area. The code reader when it gave the code you have presented, should have given brief description, If memory serves me correct for Ford/Mercury, this is related to one of two things. Purge Canister failure, or Purge Valave / Relay assy. The other way to clear the computer after replacing what is believed to be the problem is the engine has to be cycled, (started) 10 to 15 times from cold to full warm condition. i.e. you will have to start car, let it warm up, then let it cool down, and recycle this many times. It is best to take it two a shop and see if they will clear the codes for you, or locate a parts store and see if they carry the OBD-II reader/diag unit. I paid $129.00 for mine. Has save $100's in shotgunning parts.

Alternative - if you have a VDO instrument panel
My 850GLT has on board diagnostics, on LHS next to washer fluid filler, I was shown by the garage ........
Switch on ignition, insert fly lead into socket 7 of diagnostic module, then press the button firmly four times. When the LED stays on you are ready to program.
Enter code 1 5 1 by pressing once and releasing then wait for the LED to light, then press button 5 times and wait for the LED to light again. Press the button once.
Programming is done when the led flashes several times in succession, switch off ignition and remove lead from diag unit. Switch ignition back on and start engine. Light should be off. repeat if not successful.
If instrument panel is by Yazaki - reset is manual on the dash.
Please note that the Check Engine Light is not the same thing as the service light, and the above routine will not reset it.
